The first week of November meant the beginning of work for all students inter- ested in Debate. The debate topic for the season was: 'Resolved that the powers of the Federal Govern ent should be increased.' f After several meetings, each chose the side he or she would like to represent in debate. The final sides were: Affirmative--Roger Steiner, Frances Langholz, and Clareen Hammerstrom. Negative--Percy Voight, Orville Nysted, and Beverly Boe, Nhen finally our speeches were written and we had read considerable material, we attended a practice debate at Granton, The object of this gathering was to get acquainted with the fundamentals of the topic under discussion. We succeeded in discovering approximately the particulars our opponents presented and found the numerous loopholes in our constructive speeches. After several weeks of reading and practicing, we entertained the debate squads from the surrounding towns with another practice tournament. The final step of the debate season was launched at Stevens Point, on February 5, where we put into practice all of the knowledge obtained from previous experiences.
