Dropping in to say hello to Fern, I chanced upon Beatrice Taggert, famous love lorn columnist who was there for an interview. At the moment Walter Hinkleman, Amer1ca's million dollar playboy by inheritance, burst in and upon recognizing me he invited me to the Cha Paree to see the three 'Silly Swingsters' who dance at the milk bar. The debate topic for the season was: 'Resolved that the powers of the Federal Govern ent should be increased.' f After several meetings, each chose the side he or she would like to represent in debate. The final sides were: Affirmative--Roger Steiner, Frances Langholz, and Clareen Hammerstrom. Negative--Percy Voight, Orville Nysted, and Beverly Boe, Nhen finally our speeches were written and we had read considerable material, we attended a practice debate at Granton, The object of this gathering was to get acquainted with the fundamentals of the topic under discussion. We succeeded in discovering approximately the particulars our opponents presented and found the numerous loopholes in our constructive speeches. After several weeks of reading and practicing, we entertained the debate squads from the surrounding towns with another practice tournament. The final step of the debate season was launched at Stevens Point, on February 5, where we put into practice all of the knowledge obtained from previous experiences. All members, with the exception of Roger Steiner, were new to debating: and we are sure that the experience gained throughout the entire season was well worth our effort jyebafe Seated Orville Nysted, Beverly Boe, Roger Steiner, Frances Langholz Clareen Hammerstrom O Standing: Mr. Walsh, Coach, Percy Voight. : J First Row second Row Third Row Marliss Berg, Beverly Boe, Dolores Cowles, Shirley Brussow, Yvonne Christensen,Sh1rley Miller, Roger Steiner, Patricla Haas, Nancy Thurber, Margaret Horner, Dor1s Grosnick Henry Schuld, Ambrose Murphy, Joseph Beaver, Albert Degenhardt, Allan Christensen, John Vogel, Donald Rowley, Charles nsselman, Francls Sohefchick, Leland Raab, Laverne Hammerstrom, Glenn Owens, Robert Prior, Orville Nysted James Davis, Leone Kauffman, Bernadine Sturtz, Virginia Bertz, Ursie SCh11DSOg, Marla Arbelovsky, Mildred Oestreich, Floreln Schecklman Gertrude Gloudeman, Sh1rley lack, nldon Fisher, Mr Walsh, Adv1sor bofograpbg -S I . . .
