VVe're go- ing to miss the routine and fun that high school offered us. Often we'll think back on our four fruitful years. ln '43 we entered high school as Freshmen. Trying to act accustomed to the activities going on around us, we started out by participating in sports and, being a musical class, we made our name in the musical field. Our Sophomore year found us working even harder for scholarships and in extra-cur- ricular activities. A novelty dance, which made us famous, was a courtesy dance for the jun- iors. As juniors we brought more success with our presentation of The Vampire Bat , the junior Prom and another novelty dance. Many of our classmates made the National Honor Society this year, too. Our fourth andftinal year has been our greatest. Pride and Prejudice as a credit to the class and the school history. The Senior Ball at Christmas brought us even more fame. .Xctive in sports, glee club, chorus and National Honor Society we consider this year our best year, Our Senior Picnic, Class Night, Graduation and Senior Ball will leave us with the most pleasant memories of our high school life. Carolyn Cryilik industriously kept score while Farrington Young held the cash. With a helping hand, Miss Hickman, Miss Hurwitz and Mr. Kilpatrick guided us through the whole game. To increase the weight of the money bag we sponsored a successful Halloween Dance with Johnny Ross, orchestra, decorations, and all the trimmings. During the 'second and third frames, two assembly programs were produced by our class- matesg one was a Christmas play and the other a discussion based on the value of math. The big event that put the Sophomore on the map was their Sweetheart Ball sponsored during the Valentine Day's frame. Topping all informal dances of the year in music, deco- rations and enjoyment, it also brought the class a large net profit. The music of b '0lllN2lT S or- chestra put everyone In the Mood . It was definitely a night when, quote, a good time was had by all, unquote. Football and basketball seasons were met by Sophs who were really on the beam. How could the I V's have gotten along without that group of our Sophomores? The girls were well represented in basketball, hockey, bowling and other girls' sports. G. A. A. would have a dif- ficult time surviving without them. Band, chorus and glee club saw the musically inclined QPJ members of our class through- out the game. The high score brought by these activities during the game really put the Sophomores near the top. 29 LOWACAUIAN 1946 OPHOMORE liirst Row: 'Left to Rifrht Pauline Lucas, Richard Buxton, Peffff Kotary, Beryl Leh- tw bb , 1 man, Pauline Delles, Daniel Lehman, Norma lfloch, Bernard Louis, Shirley johnson, Donald Mattis, Margaret Coyle, Donald Maring, Beverly Loson, Douglas Hurd. They were: President, Bob Mattimoreg Vice-President, VVilliam Hirshey, Secretary, Judy Laribeeg Treasurer, Gladys Rennie. Student Council played a lead in promoting cooperation in many school activities during the year.. We encouraged participation for the Hallowe'en Parade and for the Victory Bond Drive. In January we sponsored a basketball game to raise money for the lnfantile Paralysis Fund. The proceeds of the game amounted to 39.40. The Junior High Dancing Club added 2510. Each Junior High room under the leadership of Council raised 33555. Our second election was held in February during the Bill of Rights week. We espec- ially chose this time to give everyone a chance to put into use the rights we enjoy, such as choosing candidates, having assembly and electing the president of Junior High and other offi- cers of the Council. The officers were chosen as follows: President, Buddy VVhaleng Vice- Presiden-t, William Hirsheyg Secretary, Anna Kloster, Treasurer, Cynthia Ross. All of the rooms have paid 33.50 for their Council dues. This is kept until the end of the school year, when it is returned as Scholarship prizes. It is given to the students of the 6th, 7th and 8th grades for high averages, etc. Junior High Student Council has also during the second teim worked out a new scheme for passing classes. This has been a very successful plan. x ct - Ngqga 1 1 ' Q , 36 I.ow.x x lxx W-lf ON AND ABOUT JUNIOR HIGH gf'- 135- -- 'T Q w THE FACULTY 55? -ef 7 'X if x X X I X WYE f ':, ' iff in 454 . The first one wasn't until October 12 when the Juniors started things. The Sophomores followed up on the 27th with another sports dance. The Seniors sponsored a big Halloween Dance the 31st following a school parade up and down State street. The Sophomores really showed themselves to be active when they sponsored another dance on November 3. The next thing we knew Christmas vacation was with us and the Seniors started deco- rating for their Christmas Foimal. The gymnasium was done in black and white. Gloria Duflo painted comic Figures on the walls to complete the black and white pattern. This was the biggest success in Christmas Formals since before the war. On February l6 the Sophomores came through again with a very successful 'KSweetheart Ball . Those Sophs certainly are active! On March 2 the PG's finally had a dance. It fol- lowed an alumni basketball game. Easter Vacation came upon us, and it was extremely wel- come. Tired as we were, we trudged to the junior Prom, not to be disappointed. More work was put into the decorations than in a long while. The gym was decorated to represent a gar- den scene. One side of the gym was covered by an awning and was supposed to signify an outdoor cafe. A flowered trellis was in the middle and a wishing well in one corner. The Whole aH'air was a big success. The school came to a close, ohciciaiiy, with the long-awaited Senior Ball following the graduation exercises. The Seniors had a really swell orchestra - the Potsdam State Teachers' Orch. tVVe hope! You know when we go to press as well as I do.j The decorations as us- ual were hurriedly but well done.
