A, ni Walter Fltschen E elyn Wafnke Left to right Eldon Snider Walter Fltschen Wesley Held Judson Faw Walter Fitschen received 1st place in Boys low voice at the District Contest in Peoria Illinois March 2. He is eligible lor the State Contest to be held May 3 and 4 in Peoria. He sang The Blind Plough- man by Youman Marilyn Myers accompanying. Evelyn Warnlre received 2nd place in Girls high voice at the District Contest singing My Johann by Grieg accompanied by Marilyn Myers. The Washburn 4 were rated 3rd at the District Contest. They sang the Negro Spiritual l Got Shoes. They were handicapped at the last minute when Eldon Snider developed a sore throat and head cold. Danny Schroeder lrom the Grade School sub- stituted lor him. LITE RARY Our high school entered contestants in live events ol the District Speech Contests held in Eurelra March . - 9. Rena Rae Fliclr represented us in Dramatic Read- ing Lorna Adami in Comedy Reading Jean Robin- Qfg son in Verse Reading and Robert Hendriclrson in Original Oration and Extempore Spealring. Robert who is a sophomore won a first lor us in both events. The girls ,gave a creditable account ol themselves but were not so fortunate as to ranlr lirst or second. Robert will advance to the Sectional Contest at Lincoln on March 23. The subject ol Robert's oration was The Fair Employment Practice Commission and the Negro.
