OM Salutatorian, Amy Lazuraus Valedictorian Mark Schappaugh 57 59 62 JOHN FEAZELL , 64 Mr. John Feazell, principal at Lowndes High, retired this year. He had been an educator and administrator for the past 30 years. We at L.H.S. will miss this man very much. He was the head Viking. Mr. Feazell was honored with a retirement banquet and roast. First Sargent Feazell was promoted to General, presented with a M l carbine rifle, and was given the keys to Mavin’s truck. We all love Mr. Feazell and we wish him well. The Munin staff is proud to dedicate this edition to a fine educator. Best Wishes. Students of L.H.S. 65 FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION JOHN FEAZELL PRINCIPAL 1980-84 69 JAMES L. PATE PRINCIPAL WELCOME TO L.H.S New Principal Takes Office by Amy Lazarus On January 21, 1985, Mr. James L. Pate officially took office as Lowndes High School’s new princi- pal. Mr. Pate, the former principal of Mitchell-Baker High School in Camil- la, Georgia, learned of the position through announcements mailed across the state. After visiting the school and talking to people who were familiar with LHS, Mr. Pate contacted County Su- perintendent Bill Sears for an appli- cation. Upon arrival, Mr. Pate felt that the school itself had a lot of potential, but it needed some work. He said the students were well mannered, well dressed, and friendly, and the teach- ers were qualified with much poten- tial. Mr. Pate stated that Lowndes High is one of the better schools in the state. He hopes to help make the school number one in every sense, meaning academically, vocationally, and ath- letically. To reach his goal, Mr. Pate has estab- lished a school planning committee comprised of students and faculty members. This group will make rec- ommendations to the principal in or- der to improve communications. “I’m excited about being here, and my family is excited. We look for- ward to being a part of the communi- ty. If everyone will help and support us, we can reach the goals that we have set,” said Mr. Pate. 71 MAURICE HAMMOND MIKE BOOKER 72 74 Debbie Barnard Art Olivia Bethea Special Ed. Hard work and dedi- cation are major attributes toward being a cheerleader. The Cheerleaders attend Varsi- ty games to raise the team spirit, whether it be in victory or in defeat. But attending games and pep rallies are not the only func- tions cheerleaders perform; they raise mon- ey by selling ribbons and others items. The Cheerleaders also performed several charity fund drives. This page — 1) A smile and a clap are ever present on the field from Deena Plaire. 2) This ghost of the ‘spirit’ world if present to evoke cheers from the classes at a pep rally. 3) Energy is always noticeable in Gaye Dam- pier as she leads Seniors in cheering. 4) Two plowgirls and a cup of cheers is a part of the formula for the Lowndes High Spirit. Opposite — The Lowndes High Varsity Cheerleaders Bottom row — Betsy Dees, Gay Dampier, Deena Plair Middle row — Beth Birdsong. Lori Cronk. Lalita Kornagay, Patricia McCrary, Keisha Ford Top — Brenda Higdon 218 Opposite page — 1) A ghost beyond boast, Debbie Washington, a spirit, shows her own spirit of Lowndes High. 2) But this troop of ghosts, in a collective fright, haunts this pep rally being true ‘spirits’ of Viking spirit. 3) Seniors Beware! Debbie Washington is out to bring the Senior spirit forth to show the underclassmen what Viking spirit really is made of. 4) And also out for Senior Spirit is Gaye Dampier, clapping and kicking, all to bring out the best of Lowndes High Spirit. This page — 1) At a pep rally, Lori Cronk shows her Viking Spirit by literally bringing the crowd to cheers. 2) But not to be out- done, Betsy Dees shows her own spirit to the cheering freshmen. 221 AUTOGRAPHS D.E.D.
