This year the Lowndes High School Key Club proved they have big hearts. Under the guidance of Mr. Howard Free- man, the club gave time and energy to young chil- dren who attended Westside School. During the year, the club members participated in a Christmas Party and a Halloween Carnival for the group. The club is also involved each year in the Special Olympics held at Valdosta High School. Many of the members par- ticipated in the Walk for Mankind held in the Val- dosta area. With the help of Barbara Kovach, Mary- Lou Blanton, and Chris Grant, Key Club Sweet- hearts, the group worked in the concession stands at home football games and collected license plates. Club Enhances Library's Effectiveness Much knowledge can be gained by reading books and by participating in library work. The Library Club, sponsored by Mrs. Freida Mobley and Mrs. Betty Rogers, learned the many tasks involved in making the library a helpful, pleasant place in which students could work. Each member was involved in checking out books, making sure the books were in proper order, and keeping the library neat for the students of Lowndes High School. 82 Mrs. Freida Mobley, Laurie Bragg, Jenny Hewett, Brenda Garner, Perian Williams, Cathy Flythe, Willine Wil- liams, Sally Hudson, Mrs. Betty Rogers, Pam Vickers, Willie Williams, Mike Barger, Bruce Mehan, Ronald Franklin, Debra Powers, Bernie Ellenbrug, and Sherri Fussel. Senior Tri-Hi-Y Inspires Responsibility Every day there are opportunities to do a service ... a smile, a friendly word, a helping hand, an understanding heart, an act of kindness. The mem- bers of the Senior Tri-Hi-Y felt the need to show each of these, especially to children who needed someone to care about them. This group participated in special activities held at West-Side school such as the Halloween Carnival and the Special Olympics. Also by inspiring pride and responsibility in every- thing they do, the Senior Tri-Hi-Y changed every- day routines into moments to remember after they graduate. LEROY CRAWFORD 90 Viking's Gpirit Never Falters The 1975-76 boys’ basketball team proved what an important role spirit is during a playing season. This year’s outstanding spirit was a result of the team as a whole. Even though the boys didn't always win, the spectator could be sure he was in for some excitement. From the quick moves of Sophomore Nathaniel Burks, the high jumping of Junior Willie Bradley to the endless number of baskets Senior Jeff Stewart sank per game, spirit was always the sixth player of the game. Varsity Cheerleaders Meet Challenge As all high schools begin a new year filled with excited sophomores, the cheerleaders face a challenge of introducing the sophomores not only to the school, but to school spirit and cheers. And like most years the challenge was conquered. This year’s squad consisted of seven juniors and three senior girls who have cheered together since the tenth grade. The captain of this year's squad was Jane Barrales; first co-captain, Linda Hunter; second co-captain, Linda Jeter. The other cheerleaders were Marie Rolfe, Sharon Holmes, Susan Bart- ley, Lynn Thompson, Tammy Cooper, Shelia Pattillo, and Morresia Randolph. (Below Right) Miss Jackson, cheerleader sponsor. Throughout the year the Lowndes High School Junior Varsity team established these as charac- teristics in each of their team members. Although the team aimed first at winning, it was apparent that pride and spirit surrounded them the entire year as these baby Vikings matured into full-fledged Vikings. The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders, under the guidance of Mrs. Alice Osborn, kept the Viking Spirit at a high peak especially at difficult times in the games. Baseball Team Has Exciting Season (Courtesy of Valdosta Daily Times) Producing an exciting baseball season for some teams is really dif- ficult, but not for the Lowndes High Vikings. Even down to the last game the team kept the spirit up and made a hard drive to win. When the team got in a bad situation, coach Noel George pulled plays out of his magic hat that worked almost every time. With dedicated team members who played with broken arms and sprained ankles, that true Viking Spirit was always on the scene. The Vikings ended their sea- son with a satisfying 12-6 record which placed them in a sub-region playoff with cross-town rivals, the Valdosta Wildcats. 108 Lowndes 19 Waycross 2 Lowndes 6 Moultrie 0 Lowndes 7 Thomasville 6 Lowndes 9 Godby of Tallahassee 8 Lowndes 1 Godby of Tallahassee 3 Lowndes 6 Berrien 3 Lowndes 1 Valdosta 2 Lowndes 10 Berrien 0 Lowndes 9 Bainbridge 2 Lowndes 4 Waycross 5 Lowndes 7 Moultrie 4 Lowndes 3 Thomasville 1 Lowndes 14 Bainbridge 1 Lowndes 2 Central of Thomasville 6 Lowndes 4 Central of Thomasville 6 Lowndes 17 Fitzgerald 3 Lowndes 8 Valdosta 1 Lowndes 2 Valdosta 3 (Courtesy of Valdosta Daily Times) (Left to Right, 1st Row) Coach Ronald Mayer, Alvin Brown, Greg Hagan, Coy Brightwell, Mike Thornal, Joe Kelly, Mike McKenzie, Rubin Howell, Robert Lee Harris, Coach Noel George.
