During the explorations of the Vikings, courage, adventure, and challenge were dominant traits of these proud, fierce people. Conquest was pursued by two ravens, Munin and Hugin. Since Munin represented memory, it is an appropriate name for the Lowndes High Yearbook. The spear and shield symbolized bravery and strength. These characteristics, combined with fond memories, remain essential to the true Viking Spirit. The Lowndes High students are aware of the type of support they receive from the Lowndes County Board of Education and the county administrative staff. These people are concerned about the students and the educational facilities and pro- grams which they provide. Even though this staff is housed in the office off-campus, they are ever present through their many examples of true Viking spirit. Mr. James Goolsby, Ass't. Supt. Winston. 14 Administration Shows Viking Spirit The administration, through their work and understanding of the student body, show a true Viking Spirit. Mr. Carlton Adams (top left) our principal is representative of a true Viking. He never tires and treats ever- yone with an open mind. The assistant principals Mr. Jerry Edwards (bottom left) and Mr. Ralph Council (bottom right) are constantly checking on the student body to keep everything run- ning smoothly and efficiently. The Lowndes High students should recognize their administration as peo- ple who work hard and who demon- strate their interest in students. 15 Office Staff Works As A Unit The office staff works as a unit to accomplish much for Lowndes High stu- dents. Their good advice and hard work makes everyday school life easier for both students and faculty. Mrs. Louise Cook, Audio-Visual Secretary Mrs. Sarah Dasher, Secretary Quarter Plan Encourages Individualism The faculty through the Quarter System helps each student become an individual and not just one among many. Each teacher to the best of his ability gives each student his undivided attention. The main- tenance men keep the school grounds and classrooms neat and tidy while the lunchroom ladies provide homecooked meals. The students put on plays of the absurd, Mane- quins Demise,” to Shakespearean, Taming of the Shrew.” At the end of the year the Drama Department worked persistently, and ended the year with the climactical Hello Dolly. The Homecoming queen was previously in the court the last two years. The Homecoming court experienced the sensation of a victorious football game from a sideline seat. It almost seemed that the student council and student body lived at Mathis City Aud. where the Homecoming dance was held. Every spare moment was spent working to make this homecoming the best. Joel Teasley and both Sgts. Ward and Moor, the JROTC had an exciting second year. They participated in varied events from giving blood to marching in parades. Timelessness Provides Atmosphere at Junior-Senior Prom A contagious sense of timelessness was in the air the moment one entered Mathis City Audi- torium on the night of May 9 for the Lowndes High Jr.-Sr. Prom. Music was provided by Red Apple and Positive people. Delightful refresh- ments were served by the Junior Class under the direction of Mrs. Tom Nichols. The Theme Time in a Bottle” was carried out from the cake to the candles in bottles decorating the tables. Grand Central Station was one of the rest stops of the evening. LHS DECA Wins State Chapter of the Year The Lowndes High Distributive Education Club won State Chapter of the Year. To achieve this honor much work was required. Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is designed to develop leaders for marketing and distribution. DECA develops an interest and understanding in marketing and distribution that will contribute to vocational compe- tence. To achieve Chapter of the Year many factors were involved. District Competition was held in Quitman. This competition allowed the local chapters to see what they had done and what needed to be done. The LHS Chapter was named 1. Among the activities are civic appearances, Clean-up Week, participating in the Christmas door contest, and a food drive. Also the chapter placed second at the local fair with the fairbooth theme: Whip Inflation Now. Members had an Ask me about DECA week. The annual Employer-Employee Banquet to honor employers for helping to further the accomplishments of DECA work. Mr. Jerry Castellanos was guest speaker. At the LHS DE Banquet a few receiving awards.
