Te ckm Pass fCitOiMjyb ow t SWewfe Curriculum is the root of a school, since education is what school is all about. An institution's principal task is not just to teach its scholars; it must also grow, to meet the changing needs of a changing society. This is Lowndes High's challenge, and one it has well and ably met, in striving for an up-to-date cur- riculum and for more efficient methods of implementing it. But, the most modern curriculum would be useless if there were no instructors to pass on their knowledge to others. A teacher helps to mold a generation, giving them answers and reasons for believing. From his desire to help his students learn, he must enkindle them with the desire to learn. He must be their understanding friend and, at times, he should even be one of them. For only then can he build on yes- terday, adapt to the requirements of today, and prepare for the promise of tomorrow. In this, the pursuit of excellence, the faculty of Lowndes High has proven itself well. 17 Coach Charles Cooper (RIGHT), head of the Physical Education Department, believes that a well- balanced meal is essential in attain- ing physical fitness. These are the ones that give a portion of themselves to the school and community. Enthu- siasm and willingness to sacrifice make them first choice in the estimation of their teachers and class- mates. These honors, which today seem to mark the highlights of our lives, will tomorrow be the memories of our school life. Honor's Night 1972-73 was held May 22 in the LHS gymnasium. Among the nine halftime shows they pre- sented, they went to Moultrie and came back with a num- ber one rating. Some of the good times were riding the Senior bus all the way to Cordele and the ice melting and running all over the bus; initiating the Rookies during summer camp; going home after school on Fridays and get- ting ready and praying you can make it back to school by 5:00 to catch the bus to Thomasville; and Ann Harrison losing her Flag Corps boots. But the most fun and joy of all is the feeling one has when one marches off the field after a halftime show, knowing that all the long hours of practice paid off. Struggling over copy, planning the different layouts, making photography assignments, and staying after school to finish pages are all a part of being a dedicated Munin staff member. In spite of all the hard work, the staff had many good times together, such as going on the Christmas field trip, attending the seminar at VSC, and having an end-of-the-year party. The staff comes back after the school term ends to complete the graduation and baccalaureate pages. The end-product is a cherished book with the highlights of the entire 1972-73 school year. Vtfeettes AwTop T Unv hflj Rjggto  A never-ending hustle and the desire to win are two of the main points to which the Vikettes credit their region championship. Having lost only one region game, the Vik- ettes were seeded first going into tournament play. They then proved to everyone in the region that they were number one by defeating the other highly ranked teams by at least ten points. They then went on to the State Quarter finals, there to be defeated by a tall Southwest Macon team by only five points. The girls showed determination as they rallied in the fourth quarter and came to within four points, after they were down by twenty points. Even with that defeat, the Vikettes earned the best record of any girls team ever at Lowndes High. Their season closed with 21 wins and 5 losses, second place in the Lowndes Invitational, Christmas Tourna- ment, and first place in Region 1-AAA. This year's success is partly due to the leadership of Coach Charles Cooper. The girls respected his calm, de- meanor, and level-headed ideas which proved meaningful throughout the season. Five Points Shopping Center BEST STEAKS IN TOWN BEST WISHES AND SUCCESS A MESSAGE FROM YOUR ARMY RECRUITER It is a pleasure for me to work and serve you and Lowndes High School. I have enlisted many stu- dents from your school who have become outstanding soldiers which is a tribute to you, your families, your teachers, and your community. I wish you much success in your future endeavors, college or whatever they may be. Of course, I would like to see you make the Army your career. I realize that everyone cannot make the Armed Forces a career, but there is a personal satisfaction in doing some- thing for your country. Sometimes it is a thankless job since many do not appreciate our country, nor the freedoms it represents. The Armed Forces have maintained America's freedom as they will con- tinue to do. The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard all work together, as one cannot function without the other. We all should strive for this same kind of teamwork, whether we are in service or not, to keep our great country free. Whatever you choose as your career, my best wishes go with you. Sgt.
