Dedication “An honest man’s the noblest work of God.” —ALEXANDER POPE To the one who has instilled in us the ambition to strive toward higher goals, whose ideals are the inspiration of both faculty and students, and who always stresses accepting defeat or victory in a humble way; to one whose hands contribute much and well, a warm person, an understanding teacher and coach, who is for us a good example, authority, guide and friend, the 1960-61 staff dedicates this second edition of the Lowndes Legend to you, MR. CARLTON ADAMS. The spirit of Lowndes County High School is personified in you, and through your efforts our school has grown to a place of great influence in the lives of many people. 5

Principal’ s Message Dear Friends: Through the determined and cooperative ef- forts of our students, the foundations of Lowndes County High have been laid deep, strong, and true. We have a most beautiful as well as spacious building and campus, a fine student body, a capable faculty, and an excellent program of studies, a good ac- tivities program, and a wonderful school spirit. We are now challenged to build upon these foundations the superstructure which will enable us to become a great school. This superstructure can be constructed only by demanding and securing from each of us (ourselves and from each other) the highest degree of excellence in scholarship, citizen- ship, and in all literary and athletic activities. This challenge—The Pursuit of Excellence— we should accept, must accept, and will ac- cept, so that our graduates will be able to solve the problems, assume the responsibili- ties and take advantage of the opportunities which will be thrust upon them by a con- fused, complex, technical, space-minded, but challenging world. Let us all now close ranks and move together unanimously in accepting the challenge to achieve the highest standards of excellence in every phase of our school. We want always to be proud of Lowndes High and Lowndes County High of us. I again express my love for and my gratitude to all of the fine students that have played an important part in making Lowndes County High a good school. I am counting on you to help make it a great school. Commendations to the annual staff for a job well done. Congratulations and sincere best wishes to each member of the Senior Class. Your Friend, a - 6 T. H. Wall, Jr.
