This is a Book of Progress Presented by the First Graduating Class of Volume I 1960 Lowndes County High School Route 2 Valdosta, Georgia Mrs. Arthur Peaden, Advisor Ray Phillips, Editor Lynette Copeland, Business Manager Foreword Each member of the yearbook staff is entrusted with the responsibility of putting action into a book that will bring back memories to our Alumni. This book, our Eagle's Past, will certainly bring back memories to those who have attended Lowndes County High School. Constructing a yearbook is a task enjoyed by everyone involved. We, the first yearbook staff of L.C.H.S., wish to thank everyone who has given time and thought in helping to put our book together, because you have made it a success. In order to enable you to remember the activities, the good times, and many friends, we, the Annual Staff, have tried to collect glimpses of L.C.H.S. at different times. With the hope that you will treasure this book now and for years to come, we proudly present the 1959-60 Eagle's Past. Do we, the members of the Staff, with love and appreciation, dedicate this first volume of the to Mr. Thomas Hylmon Wall, Eagle's Past THE STAFF, Left to right: Bill Kelly, Beverly Meacham, Sarah Greene, Virginia Weldon, Janet Montgomery, Elaine Blanton, Lama Wisenbaker, Mike Russell, Angela Holland. M EACH AM, Superintendent Valdosta, Georgia Dear Student Body and Friends, The aijn of any Board of Education, any Superintendent, any principal, and any faculty group is to provide the greatest number of educational opportunities to the highest percentage of the students enrolled in an educational program. I believe that we here in Lowndes County have an educational program which can provide sufficient educational foundation for all our students regardless of the level to which they may be academically assirned. Of this, we as administrators, are proud, and you as students can feel assured that you are being well equipped to take your place in the adult world. Have you thought—What is education? It cannot be just a time that you are required to be -enrolled in a school. It is not just a time when you must devote the major part of your tine to textbook. Education is progressing; a time of changing; a tine of learning; a time of opportunity to develop new ideas, new feelings, new ideals; a time of effort; a time of real- ization. The opportunity of education will not end when you have left the public school nor when you leave an institution of higher learning. You have been provided certain ' conveniences in your education; certain interests; certain challenges. We as adults have become spectators and well-wishers, urging you to press on with your best efforts in this game of learning that you may be better prepared to successfully take part in the game of life. 12 Principal's Message LOWNDES COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS C. W. MEACHAM, Superintendent Valdosta, Georgia Dear Friends, The record of the first year of the Lovmdes County High School is now history, and that record is one of the most fabulous and successful educational stories ever written or told. Less than three years ago Lowndes High was only a dream in the minds of the parents and educational leaders of Lowndes County. Those who dreamed began to plan to- gether and work together in making their dream come true. This, our first, year has been one of perfect support and co-operation from the Superintendent, the Board of Education, the Parents, the pupils, the Faculty members, and the citizens of Lowndes County. As a result of this dream and perfect co-operation from all, we now have a truly great high school in every respect— a beautiful, modem plant, excellent equipment, and instruc- tional materials, a wonderful faculty, and the most co- operative and the finest student body in the world. For all this, I am truly thankful; and the privilege of serving as your Principal this year has been one of the most pleasant and enjoyable experiences in my life. I sincerely hope and trust that we will all continue to work together as a team in accomplishing and maintaining the ideals of Lowndes High which are: (l) The practice of the qualities of good citizenship by each pupil and faculty member. (2) The highest possible standards of scholarship. (3) A feeling of security and belonging on the part of each pupil, (h) A beautiful, attractive, and well-kept building and campus. Tour friend, T.
