CLASS HISTORY In 1939 we were a scared group of youngsters as we marched into Mrs. Lamont’s first grade room, but she proved to be a second mother to us and we soon got over our fright. So, with much struggling most of our students managed to skip high first and go on to second grade. There we gained a few students. In our third year, just as we were getting adjusted to school life and our new environment, we heard the tragic news that our school building had burned. Our third and fourth years of schooling were achieved in churches, deserted stores, factory basements, and our old gymnasium. When we were ready to start back to school for our fifth year a new building awaited us. Our fifth, sixth and seventh years consisted of ordinary school life; studies, parties, hikes, etc. When we entered that eighth grade room we thought we were kings and queens, but Mr. Carson soon quieted us down and let us know that we weren’t. As we entered high school we gained a few students and also lost a few. Speaking of green Freshmen—that was us! It was hard getting adjusted to changing classes and all those teachers, but when we did we thought High School was wonderful. That year the basketball teams claimed the attention of most of our girls and boys. This was a major sport all through high school. Our eleventh year was filled with excite¬ ment; the main event being the Junior-Senior Banquet and the class picnic. It took quite a lot of work getting enough money together for these activities, but we survived and the next year came back as dignified Seniors. This, our last year, proved to be a real success. With the patient help of Mr. Brown; our teacher, we, twenty-six Seniors, most graduating from Low.gap in years; marched down the aisle for that night of all nights—GRADUATION. Happiness intermingled with sadness is the state of our hearts as we say good-bye to our cherished Alma Mater, LHS.
