JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY By Nancy Moses and Ann Record On August 25, 1947, thirty-nine little bewildered Fresh- men entered the halls of Lowes High School very unsuspecting as to the things that the year to come held in store for them. Mr. James E. Wilkins was assigned the job of home- room teacher for those dear little children. After the con- fusion had settled a bit we got down to business and held the first business meeting of our high school life. We elected Nancy Wyman, president, James Earl Rhew, vice-pres1- dentg June Sears, secretary and treasurer, and Ann Record, reporter. That year the Freshmen Class supported Miss Pat Gregory in the race for Basketball Queen At the end of the first semester we lost one member and gained four new ones When we entered those same halls the next year we had ad vanced to the Sophomore Class It was in our Sophomore year that we attended Biology, one of the mo t enioyable classes of our high school career which was taught by Mr Howard Reid It was due to the Biology class that we were able tn take a trip to Wickliffe and veiw the remains of the ancient inhabitants of our country at the Ancient Buried City That year the Sophomores, thirty seven strong, ran Miss Marilyn Johnson as their candidate for Basketball Queen Under the sponsorship of Miss Milidean Peid we chose the following of ficers Bobby Hopkins, president, Nancy Wyman, vice presi dent, June Sears, secretary and treasurer, and Nancy Moses, reporter That year we gained two :ery valuable members, Mary Lou Crittenden and Norma Sue Wallis Our class suppli ed the basketball team with a good many members and also a member of the cheering squad, Marilyn Johnson On August 29 1949, we enrolled as Juniors of Lowes High School Mrs Zula Edwards became our sponsor and the offi cers we elected were Juanita Hargrove, president, Ann Re cord, v'ce president, Nancy Moses, secretary, June Sears, treasurer, and Norma Sue Wallis, reporter Some of the var ious activities we carried on were publishing the school paper, sponsoring playparties, showing movies, and selling Christmas cards As Juniors we took geometry which taught us all the angles Our Queen Candidate, Miss Rita Pennebak er, was chosen MMiss Lowesn to reward us for our efforts in making money That y ar we supplied the basketball team wiwh some valuable members and the cheering squad with two impc t nt me L rs, Marilyn Johnson and Mary Iou Crittenden The Ju crs pla to take the Seniors on a short tour, and we are pl 1 lng 1 glve a th se act play, 'Crazy Castles We, twenty l trio s, have hopes of having another exciting page o h story as Seniors to co plete our history 0 ' U A - 0 n .3 O 1 0 q 1 . , . 0 - 1 0 I A X t : ' - on I . o -1 Q ' . un n l , s 0 : ' - -L -, I n . o .
