Cataldo: as our own special spark and inspiration. Without all his concern, help, and running to and from the photo store, our yearbook would have surely flopped! He is one of a very few who truly understands how much time, work, and yes, value, too, go into making a yearbook. This might be the last edition of the Spark, so, Mr. Cataldo, we would like to thank you officially for realizing how worthwhile all our work has been. Mrs. Sutter: for all the times she was going to kill us, but somehow held back. We're glad she stuck with us in the trying times when we felt as lf we would never finish. And believe us, we never would have without her support. We would also like to call to your attention the fact that almost all of the pic- tures in this edition of the Spark, except the in- dividual student pictures, were taken by the un- comparable Mrs. Sutter. Thanks for a great two years! 1 ll Ellen Thomas, Karen Service, Alane Cooper And Laurie S al: to whom this book is particularly dedicated, because, without them, and all their endless hours of drawing layouts, typing wrlte-ups, and putting up with me, their much too demanding sponsor, not even one page of the yearbook would have been printedl Composing a yearbook is a very difficult, time-consuming, and frustrating endeavor at times, and it takes a very dedicated staff to pull it off and make it a success. These four girls have put in two long years of yearbook editing, and I, as well as all of you who read thls book, will certainly agree that they deserve all the praise and congratulations which you can give them. They are very special to me and I will never forget them. Left to Right: Ellen, Alane, Laurie, Karen And, Of Course, Last But Not Least : -George Holz for his help ln taking some of the yearbook pictures -Gurscik Studios for all the individual student pictures -Mrs. Judy Souders for her help with the typing -All the teachers who gave us their cooperation with the staff and the yearbook itself -All the other yearbook staff members who gave us their time and effort so willingly Contents Administration And Faculty ...... This year's Middle School Orchestra consists of ap- proximately flfty students from the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades- and its outstanding conductor, Mrs. Diane King. These enthusiastic and devoted musicians may be heard every Tuesday while they are rehearsing in preparation for the Spring and Winter concerts, and the district-wide concert. This is held In conjunction with Music ln Our Schools Week . Many members of the Middle School Orchestra are also members of the High School and District orchestras. The orchestra plays both traditional and contemporary music, proving the versatility of the musicians, who enjoy playing, and look forward to participating ln the annual concerts. Our congratulations to Mrs. King and the orchestra for a job well done. Mrs. Prentzel Mrs King This year's Middle School Chorus consisted of about six- ty students from the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Mrs. Prentzel, who many of the Middle School students have for music, was the conductor. Mrs. Prentzel worked with the students to improve their har- mony and projection. While the rest of us are just getting ready to goto school, these devoted singers are practicing. There are about sixty students who are participating in the Holiday and Spring concerts. The chorus not only sings popular music, but traditional as well. This is probably why everyone enjoys listening to these students displaying their fine talent. 25 Student Council The 1977 school officers were ffrom left to rightl: Pam Seidman, Vice-President: Bernie Cooper, President: Lisa Tucker, Secretary-Treasurer, and Mr. Howett, Sponsor. The Student Council is made up of representatives from each of the 7th and 8th grades in the Middle School. From these representatives, officers are chosen. The officers this year were elected by the student body after rigorous campaigns. The Student Council, under the ex- cellent directing of Mr. Howett, has sponsored movies, acted as guides for Parent Orientation, and worked at the PTSA Craft Fair. il has also sponsored our 7th and 8th The Book Fair -feasi S The 7th and 8th grade newspaper staff consisted of Cleft to right! On June 11, 1777 a Philadelphia school printed the flrst school newspaper ever published In America, the Student Gazette . In commemoration of thls, the Pennsylvania School Press Association has declared the school years, 1976-1977 the Bicentennial of School Journalism. Students who participate in the production of the school newspaper gain valuable experience in the art of journalism. Participation In a school newspaper is an important learning activity from which all students benefit Library Aids greatly. This year's Flne Prlnt was supervised by Mlss Stewart, the new head of the English Department. The group of editors this year, headed by Jon Sorof, consisted of: Meg Englesson, Leslie Broudo, John Mandler, Erlc Patent, and Tom Reilly. Illustrators were: Marcy Breler, Felice Erdreich, and Dianne Delucca. Miss Stewart said, ln this year's Fine Print we have trled to glve students variety. In addition to news, we are printing features, editorials, and we even included a creative page. We at LMMS salute the Fine Print l The Library Aids this year have volunteered to work in the library during their study halls or in their spare tlme. They are required to shelve and stamp books, straighten up the library, and do other small librarian tasks. Library aids are picked on how they behave, on their scholastic achievement and most of all, on teacher's recommendations. Mr. Tumas said, This year has been a good year for library aids. They have been good workers, they help out Mrs. Whitsel and myself. Most of all, they have shown a great deal of interest in A the library and in their work. 1 ,, Q . 1: va.. ' - -' 2391 A typist's work is never done The four editors and Mrs. Sutter The small but expert Yearbook staff has put out its second edition of The Spark . The crew was guided by Editor in Chief, Ellen Thomas with the assistance of editors Laurie Segal, Alane Cooper, and Karen Service. The layout committee received a great deal of help from Gail Weintraub, Jodi Lobel, Stephanie Benus, Renata Rushlau, Molly Welsh, Nancy Normoyle, and Sue Segal. A contest was held for all the grades in which students designed divider pages. The winners were-eighth grade, Gail Weintraub and Ellen Thomas, seventh grade, Sharon Silverstein, sixth grade, Elaine Schmal, and fifth grade, Gene Rubenstein. Steven Amend supervised the art department, and Iet's not forget Margaret Englesson who contributed the activities and events dividers, and many write- ups. Without our sales committee, consisting of Mimi Prushan, Pam Rapkin, Robin Zembie, Lynne Tarka, and Paige Kleinhart, this yearbook never would have gotten off the ground. And when extra help was needed from our underclassmen, Liz Tarka, Paige Kleinhart, Bobby Service, Alison Cooper, Debbie Kerbeck, and Billy Swotes came to the rescue. Who can forget Mrs. Sutter, who made the whole yearbook possible, by being our fearless leader . Her guidance saved us all a trip to Byberry! Even though this year's varslty football teams had few games, they gave great performances on the field. Their record after the end of their season was 2 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. The best all-around player was Dave Weidner. Other good defense players were Chrls Smith and Mike O'Malley Wissahlcken, their toughest opponent, won a lucky game while playing our team. They kept the score close the whole game until a player from Wissahicken scored a touchdown at the end of the game. Coach Flowe stated that each player put out alot of individual ef- fort and that everyone worked to his fullest capacity for the team. 52 This years underweight football team had an out- standing season, while being headed by Coach Yount. Undefeated, the team won 5 games, no losses, and had 1 tie. Though the whole team played excellently, a few players did exceptionally well, such as Chris Patton, John Ward, Jay Robinson, Greg Zeitz and Kurt Mayer. Coach Yount stated, They played well as a team and didn't care about individuality. This is the third year that we have not l had a loss. They played an outstanding season. 42,0 Girls Hockey Sue Mawhinney Rosemary Amato Gall Weintraub Patti Norma Munoz Lisa Rau SECOND ROW Leslie Koff Marie Valerie Plame, Diane DeLucca, Ginny Walsh, Mary Mills, sa Devincent, Caroline Young, Darlene Birney, Kim Corscadden. The 7th grade team had a great season record with seven wins. The Eighth grade record was also good. Gail tWeinoi Weintraub and Motts were the eighth grade team captains. Unfortunately, Weino was not able to be on the team about mid-season because of a knee injury. Later she was the score keeper. The eighth grade goalies were Leslie and Kim. Even though they worked hard, she added, You know that, we even had fun! . lt was really a shame that this fine group of girls couldn't compete in any matches. Although the matches were arranged, for many various reasons they never took place. For practice Mrs. Graf stood in front ofthe net and the girls were to avoid hitting her. Yet on their way to perfection, some of the to be Chris Evert's hit their coach. To end the season, a party was spon- sored by Coach Graf. Everyone had a great time as they reminisced about the season. Cross Country The 1976 cross country team was one of the best LMMS has ever had. They practically walked away with the Abington, LMMS and Intramural championships.
