W.-Q.-9 X23-'N-4 Lenore Frances Ackerman r Commercial Trevose Heights Mix a sweet disposition with a friendly smile, add some dependability and we get Lee--a small conscientious blonde who will never refuse you a favor. Glee Club. Safety Patrol, L.ion's Roar staff, and serving on all our class committees didn't seemto satisfy Lee's thirst for participating in class activities, so our little worker tried her skill as a member of the business department of our Elmleo as well as being a 'Jack of all trades' when the junior and senior plays were under way. She claims her special interests are in sports and working with an amateur theater group after graduation, but when it comes to exams and getting up early, Lee says No Soap! Well, whether you're an early bird or not Lee, we still think you will fill any secretarial position in a way that will lead to a rapid climb up the ladder of success. Murieljane Adams College Preparatory Rockledge Cheerful, cute, talented. easy to get along with--that's our Janie. Besides doing a wonderful job as co-editor of Elmleo, she was also on the Lion's Roar staff. Janie is very much interested in music and dramatics, in both of which she's had much success. She was in the senior and junior plays, and also was pianist for the Choir and Glee Clubs. She was in the Typing, Safety and Public Speaking Clubs, and played on our class basketball team. Janie, like all of us, has her dislikes too which are geometry, chemistry, and arguments. After grad- uation Janie intends to meet people--and more people, ibut please don't forget usfl Lawrence H. Auerweck, Jr. Academic Oakford Friendly. smiling, sports-loving Larry can always be found, whether at home or school. playing in some game. l-le's played varsity basketball and base- ball. was manager of our football team and enjoyed all the class sports. Aside from sports. Larry was a member of the Hi-Y, Choir and Glee Clubs, a member of the business staff of the Elmleo. and editor of the exchange department for the Lion's Roar. Larry plans to attend college after graduation. A future Coach of the Year candidate? Franklin Thomas Barrett Commercial Hintingdon Valley Here is a hail-fellow-well-met type of friend who has ' . proven himself an A NO. 1 Lower Morelandlte. As manager of the basketball team. member of our orchestra, and a talented soloist for the Glee Club Franklin added t h- Y o is gwn glory anyd that of our class., One of f'Gunpowder's pet pastimes is hunting ut he doesn t overlook the movies or tricks of the real estate business. If real estate IS to be your chosen work, Franklin, we'll hope for a real boom. Claire A. Beisel College Preparatory Rockledge The nursing profession will have one more reliable member in its ranks when Claire completes her training at Jefferson Hospital in the few years follow- ing her L. M. graduation. Claire's interest in science and math will stand her in good stead in her chosen work, as will her friendly quiet manner and her dry wit. In school Claire showed good class spirit by volunteering for committee work--especially refreshment committees for our many dances. She also was the capable manager of the basketball team and a worthwhile member of the Glee, Tri- Hi-Y, Typing and Safety Clubs. Fred William Belser af'- VP' Commercial Oakford Fred is one of those easy-going, good-natured fellows you just can't help liking because of that certain something which gives him that even disposition. l-lis good heartedness was shown in his active work in all class projects, as well as his membership in our Choir, Safety, Glee, and Science Clubs. Cars and traveling are what Fred thinks he likes best, but we know him to be an enthusiastic movie fan too. Fred was conscientious in most of his work but frankly admits hard work is not only tiring but boring. We think he has a point there, and he'll probably prove it in a successful career that allows plenty of time for relaxing. Lois Brandenburger Commercial Feasterville After Lo came to us from Frankford High in her junior year, she got right into the swing of things at L.M. Participation in the Glee Club and reporting scoops for the Lion's Roar were Lo's special contributions to school activities. We will always be especially glad of her contribution to our class as a cheerful. witty, and cooperative classmate - usually busy with her knitting or getting ready for dancing or bowling. Lila Kae Braun Academic Huntingdon Valley Happy-go-lucky Lila, our blond bombshell , could usually be found practicing a new cheer or attempting a new dance step--that is, when she wasn't warbling a hittune from the latest musical. Naturally she was a cheerleader and a dependable soloist for the Glee Club. The Safety Patrol valued her as a lieuten- ant, too. Of course, her ambition is beyond question--or is it? We know how much interested she is in continuing her musical career, but she hints strongly of enjoying combining marriage with a career. We heartily approve. Charles E. Brown Muriel Lillian Briggs C Omme I'CiH1 Huntingdon Valley Muriel is friendly, reliable, and provides many laughs for others. She served on the basketball and hockey varsity teams and participated in all class sports. Glee and Safety Clubs and being a member of the Lion's Roar were some of her other activities. Murie1's likes and interests are classical music, people, sewing. housework. and doing things for others. That's a good foundation for the happy life we hope Muriel will have. General Rockledge Our handsome Charlie will always be remembered as one of L.M.'s football heroes. The gridiron wasn't Charlie's only claim to sport fame, however, since he was always a valuable man on all the class teams as well. Charlie was alwaysa helpful and quietly useful member of class committees, especially for dances and class plays. The yearbook staff knows him as one of our best advertisement solicitors. In his future career as an automobile dealer, Charlie won't have to look for that four leaf clover. It's always been right with him. Margaret Ann Campoli Academic Bethayres At the beginning of her senior year, Peggy decided that nursing was to be her choice of profession. --So the commercial course lost a good student and the academic gained one. Peggy certainly has the personality we think a good nurse should have--the kindness, cheerfulness, and interest in others. Peggy's interests and activities were many and varied--a combination of lots of worthwhile things: a member of the business staff of the yearbook, sports writer for the Lion's Roar, varsity hockey and basketball, plus class sports. Outside of school, sewing, baking and cowboy records kept Peggy happily employed. We think the Class of 1950 was mighty lucky to have Peggy among those present? Mary Madeline Courduff Commercial Oakford HA friend in need, is a friend indeed. Mary is that friend and to everyone, no matter whether you've known her a year or just for a day. Perpetually smiling and always having a cheerful word to say, she was one of those enthusiastic followers fand cheerers--rah,J of all our sports. Of course. she just didn't stand on the sidelines either--intramural basketball and baseball are to her favor and she'll be remembered as a f'whiz at both. She was a member of our Glee Club and a very reliable worker on our Safety Patrol. Her interest in music, roller skating, and dancing, prove Mary isn't one-sidedyand besides these she even has a fancy for really fine poetry. After graduation, we hope to find her with a good secretarial job. She'll get it. if we know Mary. Elaine Danenberger Academic Huntingdon Valley Pretty and sparkling Bert was active in many phases of school life and a class member we were proud to claim. Glee and Safety Clubs as well as the Lion's Roar staff were also pleased to have her on their list. E1aine's winning personality also brought her another claim to fame - the honored position of May Queen's attendant in several of our May Day programs. Her interest in swim- ming, skating, and the profession of nursing complete the picture of this versatile girl. Jean Shirley Davis Commercial Feasterville Gay, vivacious, ambitious, and always dependable--that's Jeanie who is continually laughing and full of fun. Being an active member of Safety and Glee clubs, playing varsity basketball, being our chief typist for the I..ion's Roar and the backbone of the senior treasury, having a leading role in the junior play, and taking avery active part on the business staff of the senior yearbook are only some of her chief accomplishments. Included in her 'flikes list are blue Plymouths. dating, and traveling, but we know most of those spare hours are spent letter-writ- ing and listening to good music. We don't seem to know just what is awaiting Jeanie on her graduation from L. M., but we can be sure that whatever it is. she will enjoy it, work hard at it, and always come up with a laugh and a smile. Clark Wilson Dietrick Academic Rockledge Click is the name we gave to this easy-going, ready-with-a-smile class- mate of ours. Although he might have seemed rather quiet during class recitations, outside the classroom Click was an active participant in varsity baseball, basket- ball, and all the class sports--and in dancing and dating. These last two social activities didn't interfere with his more serious ones, however, because he was our hard working, efficient Business Manager of the Elmleo and a valued member of the Hi-Y and Science Clubs. So, here's to you, Click, for a future with just the right mixture of work and play. Joan M. DiGirolamo College Preparatory Rockledge Good looks plus personality--that's our DiGee. She played varsity hockey and basketball for two years and class sports. She was a prominent member of the Typing. Safety, and Glee Clubs and also was a literary member of the year book staff. DiGee definitely likes dancing and sports while housework rates low on her list. Her pet hobby is knitting fvery skillful at it tool. To DiGee goes the honor of being L.M.ls first genuine bell ringer. We wish DiGee all the luck in her office career that a swell girl like her deserves. Elva Louise Erler Commercial Feasterville James E. Erb General Huntingdon Valley We'll remember Jimmy especially for that happy disposition we wished we all had. He didn't lose his cheerfulness but became really serious in base- ball season when he represented L.M. on the diamond. Class sports--soccer and volley ball--were special favorites of Jimmy's too. His club selections in- cluded Safety. Science, and Hunting and Fishing Clubs. We're not sure of Jimmy's future career but we know that after hours , Jimmy will relax by listening to cowboy songs or going hunting. Elva came to L. M. from Frankford High in our junior year--and we have been glad ever since. Our class gained when this witty, fun-loving girl became a loyal L. M. rooter. Her interest in singing and her ability to control traffic offenders made her valuable to both the Safety and Glee Clubs. What are Elva's special likes? Green eyes, crew haircuts, dancing, skating, swimming--and for the serious side there is the pursuit of an advertising career. Happy persons are usually successful, so don't ever change,Elva, and you'll be both. Stella Marie Fink Academic Huntingdon Valley Stella, who has been active in all phases of school life, was known especially as our class comedian. She proved very efficient as editor-in-chief of the Lion's Roar, was a member of the literary department of the Elmleo, and played varsity basketball. Glee Club. Safety, Tri-Hi-Y and Typing Clubs plus softball intramurals kept Stella quite busy,--when she wasn't pre-occupied with long, long thoughts and her efforts to express some of them in writing, one of her really top inte rests. Anna J. Gengenbach Commercial Trevose Active Annie, our popular athletic girl, has certainly earned her title. Just observe her pep and sparkle on the hockey field or basketball floor and you will know why. She also found time to make a fine success of a leading role in the Junior Play, and to take an active part in the work of the school paper and year book. Glee Club and Shop were her chosen clubs and she especially enjoys dancing and home economics. Annie's good marks make that proposed college career seem promising. Then what, Annie,--teaching? Lucky pupils. Albert Theodore Gindhart General Feasterville Some fellows seem to have everything--good looks, pleasing personality, and ability. Ginny has all these as well as a fun-loving disposition, irresistible smile, and plenty of energy for getting things done. These qualities came to light in many activities--in the fine brand of varsity football Ginny displayed, in class sports, as exchange editor of the Lion's Roar, as vice-president of the senior class, as pub- licity man for Safety and Hi-YClubs, and particularly in the thorough job of assemb- ling photographs for the yearbook. We're well satisfied with Ginny's choice of a career as a salesman because we know that, as in all he will undertake,he has what it takes to be tops . she is, she'll be having a wonderful time. Richard Alfred Guthrie you are attempting to evade the law. James Dale Hadsell Commercial Meadowbrook Monk is a versatile fellow with interests, fads, and fancies ranging from swimming to pinochle and joy riding. Glee and Science Clubs caught his interest throughout high school but it was a different story with clerical practice. We're not sure we can ever convince Monk that life is a serious matter, but we are sure he'll come through in what he chooses to do. Clementine A. Giovannangelo Commercial Bethayres Sports-loving Clem achieved a wonderful record in athletics being captain ' of the 1950 championship hockey squad, a fast forward on the varsity basket ball team, and playing in all class intramurals. The Glee Club and Safety Patrol benefited by Clem's membership. Dancing, cowboy music and home making these Clem claims are her hobbies, but no matter what Clem s doing or where General Trevose Rich, with another more familiar nickname that was censored because it was a bit too undignified, has an imposing list of fine qualities friendliness loyalty sense of humor, and a good disposition. As president of the Safety Club and captain of the 1950 baseball team Rich added leadership to his positive qualities he was also a member of the Glee and Science Clubs. Hunting land taking a vacation from school routine?l is one of his favorite 'fextra-curricular activities If Rich achieves his ambition, you may meet him on the beat one of these days when Frances G. Henderson Academic Langhorne .Tean Val Hasting Commercial Rockledge 'fBut why, teacher? Quiet and obedient as he is, Ruffy, insists uponwhys and wherefores of the subjects he likes best. Maybe that is why he always has a ready answer for all the teachers. When it comes to sports, Ruffy put all his spirit into varsity baseball, but didn't neglect being tops in the class sports. As for his pet interest, we find that nice girls are in the lead with sports coming next. Swimming and tennis are his summer hobbies but all through the year he avoids conceited persons tWho doesn't!J. After graduation between nine and five you'll probably find Ruffy holding down an office job and making a real Ngo of it. Frannie with all her leadership ability has been a great help to our class and school. In the eleventh grade she capably filled the position of manager of the basketball team, and as president of our class that same year, she did exceedingly well. Red Tape is just a name to Frannie who doesn't let things keep her from her objective. Glee and Safety were her two main club interests, and she was a capable member of both the Lion's Roar and yearbook staffs. When the girls need- ed advice on how to cut a dress pattern or how to do the latest dance step, Frannie was their answer. Most of Frannie's ideas about the future seem to center in a home of her own. Fred M. Herwig General Huntingdon Valley Somehow he stands out wherever he is. Maybe it's because of his catching sense of humor and the wlse cracks he has ready at a minute's notice, or maybe it's because of his fine posture, Butch possessed good basketball ability and was also a really fine tackle on the varsity football team. Whenever we needed proper- ties for our class plays, Fred was there with his Ford ready to 'fget things rolling . The foremost of his likes are cars and hunting. His chosen work has already been decided upon a.nd that is carpentry. Here's to bigger and better homes--by Herwlg. Daniel Hess College Preparatory Feasterville Stan the Man , as most of us call this easy-going classmate of ours, seems to contradict himself occasionally. He claims he doesn't like work and looks for- ward to loafing. How is it then that he's one of our best math pupils, and well on his way to being a good business man? He also claims he's not interested in the girls. How is it then he is in such great demand at social gatherings? Check with Dan for these answers, but don't expect the right one fthe first time, anywayl. When Dan was able to tear himself away from his' studies, he was on hand at Science, Safety and Typing Clubs, or on the baseball diamond. Joseph Fred Hesson General Feasterville Joe, who came to us from Mastbaum in his junior year, has many interests and hobbies. He took part in softball intramurals and football, was a member of Hi-Y and Science Clubs, and intends some day to join the Navy. Naturally, .Toe has his lighter moments, but when the subject is photography, he is all business YNQBSH '25 fx .17 C C ft. ' aa Ralph Henry Hofmann College Preparatory Rockledge Henry's inclinations and talents point to a career in science. The girls aren't so sure that Henry's special little wink is strictly scientific, but if gl-BIS 1'6- sults in good formula fashion. When you read of his activities here you'll soon see why he was voted most studious and most likely to succeed: class sports, one year of varsity football, photography staff of yearbook, Science, Typing, and Hi-Y Clubs, and fwe're saving the best 'til lastl--vice-president of Student Council in his junior year, followed by the presidency in his senior. You see now how that vote came about? Leonard Holmquist Academic Rockledge When its fishing, trapping, or presiding as president of the Hunting and Fish- ing Club this out-door sports lover of ours is dead serious--as he was in his work with the Hi-Y and Science Clubs. But there's another side to this unpredictable friend of ours--a much lighter side that keeps the girls guessing, and his pals in high good humor. Dutch really has a way with him--the kind of way we admire and envy. His ambition? He's headed for college to prepare for food technology. Eleanor Hyndman Commercial Feasterville Here and there--into this and into that-- acheery word to one andall--that's El. To boil down some of El's activities, we have her listed as one of the feature writers of Lion's Roar, literary editor of the yearbook, varsity hockey and junior varsity basketball team member, and a member of Tri-Hi-Y and Glee Clubs. El says she loves people, animals, sports, and eating. That coversalot of territory-- but El can do just that. Carl B. Kramer General Feasterville Joyce Kenagy Collese P1'9Pafaf01'Y Huntingdon Valley Joyce was one of our class members who often kept us guessing about what was going on in that attractive head of hers. We didn't have to guess, of course, about her winning smile or top-notch scholastic ability--they were evidentnas was her interest in the Typing and Safety Clubs and basketball. We know, too, that math and movies rate high with Joyce but routine homework and bragging are on her cannot tolerate list. As Joyce continues her formal education, we can well imagine that she'll whip off term papers with the same ease and in the same fine style as those excellent sport write -ups she did for the Lion's Roar. Lefty one of our most easy-going and well-liked classmates, is a rugged individual--in more ways than one. I-le could spend hours in varsity football drills and scrimmage and set out for a long walk home ffrom the bus stopl with that long easy stride, showing not a trace of fatigue. His ability didn't end with football or class sports, for we'd usually count on Lefty for a poster or two when our class needed some artistic publicity for one of their many projects. At present, Lefty's ambition is to own a large dairy farm, but we think that cars and their parts may enter into the plan somewhere. Whatever it is, we know he'1l get there. Donald R. Kurz General Rockledge Don, better known as Cecil , is ahappy-go-lucky,good-natured fellow who has participated in all class sports--basketball, football, baseball, track and volley ball. For clubs, Don chose Hi-Y and Dramatic. His likes are stock car races and girls, his dislikes are long walks to Trevose and studying. Cecil's hobbies are jerking sodas and raising dogs, but his chief concern is getting a car. Don intends to be an electrician in the very near future. Gertrude Anna Lange Academic Rockledge Giggling, fun-loving Gert hopes to someday settle down and be a nurse, with her training at Jefferson Hospital. Her interest in chemistry and hospital work will help her in this program. Tri-Hi-Y, Typing, Safety and Glee Clubs gained by her membership. She was on the art staff of the yearbook and literary staff of the Lion's Roar. Like so many of us, Gert's chief trial was getting up in time for school, but she wasted no time once she arrived. Good luck to a good worker. Marjorie A. Lel-luquet College Preparatory Oakford Margie certainly has been one of our class assets as far as sports is con- ce rned. She's played three years of both basketball and hockey, participated in all class sports, and also in cheerleading for two years. Is it any wonder she was voted most athletic! Her non-athletic activities included active membership in the Glee Club, Choir, and Tri-Hi-Y of which she was a secretary. Margie's chief ambition is to be a nurse, and if she puts into that profession all the enthusiasm and effort she has shown in high school, we know her patients will not mind being hospitalized. Joan Katherine Leldahl College Preparatory Feasterville Quiet Joan, smiling pleasant, and sociable, participated in basketball intramurals, Glee Club, Safety Patrol, and was a member of the sports depart- ment of the Lion's Roar. Her favorite hobby is photography and her main interest lies in writing. Some of .Toan's dislikes are homework and bugs, while she especially enjoys all sports and dancing. All of us wish her the success she well deserves in her future teaching career. William Thomas Lodge General Bryn Athyn Friendly, always laughing, and having a special relish for trapping, dancing and hot rods--that seems to sum up Bill. His active part as a senior member in- cluded participation in varsity basketball and our class sports, membership in the Science Club, and holding the office of vice-president in our Student Council. Of course, there is always some special something with which we associate Our classmates and with Bill it was his vim on the varsity basketball team. As for those coming post-graduation days, Bill's inclinations are towards plumbing. I-Iere's hoping you find a leaky faucet now and then Bill,--good luck with it too. Jean MacMurtrie Commercial Rockledge With her giggles and jokes, Jeanie is really a handful for Charles. But if we look more closely at the handfu11 we find behind her light hearted ways another active senior who was always willing to do her share. As Glee Club accompanist Jeanie proved you can play anything put before you. Jeanie's 'foutside interest , however, brought her real distinction since she became the first and only senior girl to be engaged las of December 19491. No wonder we hear so much of housework, knitting, and baking pies! Good housekeeping, to you and Charley! John McDonnell, Jr. College Preparatory Feasterville Fred McCurry General Philadelphia Tim, our envied classmate with a new and different car each week Cwell-- almostll, came to L. M. from Northeast High in his junior year. His interest and ability in athletics led him into varsity football, basketball, and baseball, with the honor of being captain of the 1949 football team. Tim's appearance and per- sonality go well with those smooth Studebakers he sports. That tall blue eyed blond you ve seen so much in action in varsity sports is Mac. I-Ii-Y president, captain of the 1950 basketball championship team, and our class president as we began senior high school, were other active spots. Varsity baseball and football also benefitted by Mac's athletic prowess. In our classes Mac was active too, especially in discussing the pro's and con's of any debatable topic. Here's hoping that our good friend Mac will continue to be ft leader he was in our class. Arthur R. McKnight Academic Huntingdon Valley Babe will always be remembered as one of our funniest funnymen . Jokes, tricks, and plots were either cornlng or going in Babe's direction, but on every occasion he was always a good sport. Babe's chief school and class ac- tivities centered around Science Club and Safety Patrol, class teams, and a hilar- ious role in our Junior Play. We hear from a reliable source that Babe's a golf fan--and a good one, another hot rod devotee, an amateur photographer. fOf course, we know why he hasn't photographed Mr. Hoke's office.J Plans for the future aren't too definite yet in Babe's mind, but we wish him the best. Doris Adelene McKnight Commercial Huntingdon Valley Always polite, always cheery, usually quiet, but never dreary. Doris generally follows this enviable pattern in almost everything she does--and every- thing she does is done with enthusiasm and sincerity. Her special interests in- cluded Glee and Tri-Hi-Y Clubs and membership on the Lion's Roar staff. She has told us, too, that she enjoys golf, swimming, and embroidering in her leisure time. We predict a rosy future for this pleasant, well-mannered friend of our high school days. Kathrine L. Metzger College Preparatory Huntingdon Valley With Kitty Lou's sparkling eyes and radiant smile, is it any wonder why she is everybody's friend! As captain of the 1949 Warrioretts and Varsity guard in basketball, Kitty Lou proved to possess real sports ability. She was an outstand- ing member in the Safety Patrol and Glee Clubs. As co-editor of the yearbook and a valuable Lion's Roar member, Kitty's conscientious work made her an import- ant member of our class. So to this very helpful miss, we wish continued success in her college work at West Chester preparing for teaching Knot Frenchj.--that is, if marriage doesn't interfere. 1 Robert Charles Nankerville General Rockledge Athletic, friendly, and ambitious--that's our Bob, otherwise known as Romeo. Bob came to us in our sophomore year and became our class presi- dent in our senior year. He participated in all class sports, and was a member of the Athletic Cotmcil, I-li-Y, and Glee Club. Three major sports, basketball, base- ball, and football--claimed Bob's special attention and in all these varsity teams he was a valuable player. Bob is thinking of professional baseball as a career. Whether it's to be that or something else, Bob will find success and friends be- cause he's certainly got what it takes. Robert Ortlip General Feasterville Lower Moreland football fans are going to miss Mort who played varsity for three years. Sometimes when Mort was in the thick of things on the football field we found it difficult to think of him as the good-natured, happy-go-lucky, friendly fellow we lmew in the classroom. Mort has told us he enjoyed concentrating hard in Glee and Home Economic Clubs--and on sports and having a good time--but definitely was not interested in rising early in the morning or deep books. That's another reason we know for Mort's having lots of company and good friends. Elmer G. Propert General Bethayres When we think of Senator Cshort for Senator Claghornj we always think ofa reserved, quiet fellow who never asked for recognition for the many helping hands he extended to us during his years at L. M. Remember the wonderful help he was with our two plays--right on hand behind the scenes ready with hammer or paint- brush? Even though he insisted he disliked school, he apparently accepted his fate with good will and brightened the otherwise dull days by keeping his car in tip-top condition, enjoying Science Club,or by going hunting. And what is Senator's am- bition? He says he's think it over. Nancy Jane Riley Commercial Huntingdon Valley Claude Raudenbush Academic Holland Snapper, aided and abetted by his pals, was usually in the process of carrying out a practical joke or thinking up another one. However. his hyper- active sense of humor didn't interfere with his good work as football manager. his active interest in all intramural sports, or his duties on Safety Patrol. Horse back riding, hot rods, and the weaker sex are other real interests. What of flat tires, Snapper? Our popular class secretary found time and energy to participate in cheer- leading, varsity basketball, Glee Club, Safety Patrol and to 'serve as feature ed- itor of the Lionls Roar and literary staff member of the Elmleo. Nancy's pleasing personality, attractive appearance, enthusiasm, and interest in class and school activities probably contributed much to the honor she received of being elected Maid of Honor to the May Queen and will contribute to a successful future. Joan Evelyn Shick Commercial Trevose Although Joan was one of our most quiet members, she was sociable and well- liked by all. Joan participated in intramural basketball, Glee and Safety Clubs. and was an eagle eye proofreader of the Lion's Roar staff. She tells us she enjoys winter sports, radio, hospital work, and meeting nice people. That combination should make for a happy, busy life, we think. Gordon E. Sickel General Trevose Even though he's quiet, and with the girls a little shy, behind his back they whisper, Our Gordy's one swell guy! Gordy proves our case that a fellow doesn't have to be a football hero or a Romeo to be popular with the fair sex. The baseball diamond was Gordy's favorite spot--and the pitcher's mound in partic- ular. Soccer and basketball kept him interested, too, but nothing proved quite so interesting as cars and electrical work. Gordy thinks he'5 headed forthe electrical business--a fine business for a fine fellow. Joseph Salvadore Sorace General Huntingdon Valley A fellow who ranks high scholastically and yet is a true live wire when there is mention of class activity usually finds a real welcome in any crowd. Pasquale, with his contagious grin, was certainly a welcome member in our crowd and school. Joe found special enjoyment in soccer and football, but put forth most of his energy in the Safety, Science, Home Economics, and Glee Clubs. .Toe has set his next goal as graduation from The Williamson School of Mechanical Trades. Those of us who know J'oe's intense interest in all things mechanical, his seriousness of purpose, and his scholastic ability are sure that his goal will be achieved and that Joe will go on always to bigger and better things. We say, Here's to a good fellow! Joan Elinor Spierling Commercial Trevose Heights A real sense of humor, a friendly attitude towards all. and an initiative which is all her own are all a part of Squirrely's pleasing personality. She played hard and with good sportsmanship in intramural basketball and baseball, was a member of the Glee and Safety Clubs, and proved one of our most efficient, and dependable workers on many of our class committees--mainly as one of our play prompters. Her special fancies are sports and dancing plus typing for our Lion's Roar--with the speed and accuracy she shows in most of her work. Squirrely can't stand exams and the preparation before, but is determined to become a good private secretary. Everything points to fulfillment of that ambition. David Leonard Swanson General Trevose Dave, better knovm as Redman , has a good sense of humor and shows everyone that what's usually said about red heads is not true. He served as a loyal and hard-working teammate on the varsity football team and also in all the class sports. Science and Hi-Y Clubs were a few of his activities. Dave has many likes and interests, but his favorite is the fair sex. Dave was always ready for a good laugh, but not so ready for home-work. fwell--who is!J Harry .B. Swanson General Trevose Even though Wobb insists he has been counting the days until graduation, we think he'll really miss school--and us--and we know we'll miss his unexpected wisecracks and friendly ways. In or out of season, football and baseball are the center of Wobb's attention, with hunting filling ln the gaps. Wobb isn't much of a talker so we can't tell you his ambition. We'll just have to wait and see which road to success this quiet friend of ours will follow. Joy Grace Thompson Commercial Bethayres Joy is our more talkative twin, sociable, cheerful, and mighty pretty, too. As a member of the Lion's Roar staff, we found her capable of doing some really fine art work. We all know she is a good dancer and also that she loves to skate and cook. It is easy to understand why gossipy people and those who ask too many questions perturb her, for we know she herself is never guilty Sandwiched in be- tween her futtu'e secretarial duties we're sure there will be many new recipes for all sorts of tasty dishes and many more artistic posters and other forms of art work. J une Dorothy Thompson Commercial Bethayres Friendly, attractive and quiet, but always there with a sparkling smile, .T une is our other twin classmate. Being proofreader on the Lion's Roar staff, and a member of our Tri-Hi-Y and Safety Clubs added even more to June's already high credit. She says she likes dramatics and we know that's true because of her part in our senior play, and her hard work to memorize her lines practically overnight when Joy 'ftook sick . Like sister Joy, June finds enjoyment in dancing, skating and more especially in cooking. June's immediate future is also concerned with secretarial work, in the office as in school, we know she'll be quietly efficient and decorative. Mamie Louise Tilghman Commercial Bethayres If you're looking for a cheerful, easy to get along with young lady, you can end your search with one of our favorite school mates, Mamie. Are you looking for a person who can make stylish clothes and one who really enjoys school? That's Mamie again. To go to Virginia State College is her ambition and if she takes to college the loyalty and fine spirit she showed on the varsity hockey team, Virginia State will be mighty glad she enrolled. .RPM Ronald Y. White College Preparatory Huntingdon Valley Having lots of fun and enjoying life is what our Moose wants. I-le didjust this by participating in all class sports, football, basketball, baseball, and soccer, and being active in Hi-Y Qof which he was vice-presidentj and Safety Clubs. Ronnie's likes and interests are those most popular with the fellows in our class-- hot rods, girls, and sports. Dislikes? Liver and P. O. D. Because he can't bear the thought of giving up studying fha! J, Ronnie looks forward to college. Doris Whitlock Commercial Churchville Doris is one of our quiet, likeable members who is always willing to give some unfortunate soul a hleping hand. We have sought her help and advice for many things because her interests and talents include not only 'fbook learning but all things domestic--especially sewing. She enjoyed a variety of school activities--hockey, class basketball, Glee and Tri-Hi-Y Clubs, and Elmleo business staff work. Whoever becomes Doris' employer will be a lucky person. Karl F. Wieland Commerc1al Huntingdon Valley Friendly talented Karl Joined us in our Junior year from Olney High H has been a wonderful asset to both our class and school as a photographer artist and mus1c1an Glee Orchestra and Safety Clubs were some of his activities We are indebted to Karl for the outstanding art work in the yearbook fBe sure to sketches Because of his pleasant nature and many worthwhile interests Karl has no room in his busy life for dislikes ' Please note his ambition is to work' g gk 1 ' . gg pp N3 . SPORTS COACH WHITE ,sw THOMAS FECCA 'N FOOTBALL This year's football team has scored more touchdowns than all the teams of the last three seasons put together. This shows that the team was hard fighting and had the ambition to win. The school was behind all these fellows in every game. Highest credit should be extended to Coach White and to these players that represented L. M.: Captain--Tim McCurry, Bob Ortlip, Carl Kramer, Dave Swanson, Charlie Brown, Al Gindhart, Jack McDonnell, .Toe Hesson, Tom Fecca, Dick Treiffesen, Roger MacAdams, Fred Seganti, Bob Hafner, Ed Hesson, Ronald Smith, Gus Witzel, John Bell, Dan Priestly,.and .Terry Stoltz. The managers were Larry Auerweck and Claude Raudenbush. We know that with our up and coming junior high team, L. M. can expect many victories in the future. M. on November 10 clinched the league championship for the Lower Moreland hockeyist, the final game of the season with Whitpain on November 17 brought the long hoped for record of no defeats, no goals scored by opponents, and no tie scores. It was Anna Gengenbach's lone tally in the last few minutes of the game and the strong defense by the backs that yielded the score needed to achieve this am- bitious record. By their fine spirit and consistent effort to improve their game, each and every team member contributed to this unusually successful season and to the winning of L. M,'s fifteenth successive victory. The girls who have been in the regular line-up for these two league games are: Captain Clementine Giovannangelo, Eleanor Hyndman, Anna Gengenbach, Margie Leliuquet, Joan Woodson, Mamie Tilghman, Mary Beth Croxall, Joan DiGiro1amo, Edith Trotter, Peggy Campoli, and Nancy Zill, goalie. Rosemany Pesesko saw action in the greater part of the games, while Alice Poust, Muriel Briggs, Helen Allmon, Susan Wright, Marion Fesmire, and Doris Whitlock participated in one or more games. The team's capable manager was Kathleen Kleinz, assisted by Marion Konzelman. Although ten players will be lost to the squad through graduation, Coach Bertha Crowe and Assistant Coach Florence Allshouse look for a successful season in 1950 when the girls of that team-to-be work equally hard to keep the hockey crown in L. COACH WILLIAMS Undefeated in all their league games, the Lower Moreland High School girls were crowned champions of the Lower Penna. Tri County League. The final and most decisive game of the circuit was played Friday, February 17, at Blue Bell where the L. M. Maidens, coached by Florence Allshouse, gave the second place, Whitpain High School Team, its second defeat at the hands of Lower Moreland. Early in the season Lower Moreland broke the tie with Whitpain for first place when they defeated them on their own floor by the close score of 38-39. The final game, according to most of the spectators, was one of the best games played by Lower Moreland in many a year. The Sharp shooting of Margie LeHuquet and Nancy Riley, who scored 40 and 21 points respectively for Lower Moreland, made the score extremely high for high school basketball, 71-50. Earlier in the month, the Lower Moreland Stars defeated i-lilltown High School, the champions of the Upper Section of the league, by a 37-25 score. When graduaticns rolls around in June the school will lose from the basket- ball ranks: Co-captains, Margie LeHuquet and Ioan Woodson, Nancy Riley, .Toan DiGirolamo, Anna Gengenbach, Clem Giovannangelo, Peggy Campoli, Jean Davis, Stellamarie Fink, Kitty Metzger, and Muriel Briggs. Other members of the basketball squad who will be back with L. M. next year are: Catherine I-Iubing, Nancy Zill, Alice Paust, Mary Beth Croxall, and Jeannette Roscher. Managers were Claire Beisel, Elaine Distler, and Beatrice Wallhiser. Margie Lel-Iuquet, whose name has been among the high scorers in girls basketball for the last three years, racked up a total of 148 points in the six league games played this year. Her nearest rival in Lower Moreland was Nancy Riley, with a total of 74 points. Total points scored by Lower Moreland in league games was 269 compared to 186 for the lea.gue opponents.
