In addltlon to attendlng and graduatlng from the many Coast Ar tlllery Schools General Fenton was selected to attend the Army War College ln 1922 and the Command and General Staff School ln 1927 The attendance at these latter two schools IS qulte a d1st1nct1on and only granted to certam selected offlcers In 1924 General Fenton returned to the Unlted States M1l1tary Academy as Assoclate Professor 1n the Department of Mathematlcs 1n whlch capaclty he served untll ordered to the Command and General Staff School Fort Leavenworth Kansas IH 1927 Upon graduatlon 1n 1928 he agaln returned to the M1l1tary Academy to become Asslstant Professor of Chemlstry and Electrxclty It IS lnterestlng to note at th1s t1me that this was to be a momentous step ln h1s career because w1th1n a years t1me he became Professor of Chemlstry and Electrlclty at the Umted States M1l1tary Academy whlch pos1t1on he fllled w1th d1st1nc tlon untll he reached the statutory age of retlrement m 1944 General Fenton wlth h1s characterlstlc energy gave to the Department of Chem lstry and Electrlclty the curr1culum of studle and reorgamzatlon of courses and laboratorles so solld that th1S department was recognlzed as one of the flnest It IS therefole small wonder that 1n 1944 when General Fenton was due to ret re from the Army for age the Superln tendent of the Unlted States Mlhtary Academy requested the War De partment to allow h1m to lemaln ln h1s present capaclty for the dura t1on of the war Th1s request was granted and to reward h1m for h1s many accompllshments as Professor of Chemlstry and Electrlclty h was awarded the Legxon of Merlt wl11ch ln essence lauded h1m for h1s efcceptlonal ab1l1ty and rare yudgment as Professor of th1s Department In 1946 General Penton ended hxs career as an actlve offlcer in the Army and was retlred and later appolnted a Brlgadler General Even though he was placed on the retlred l1st of army offlcers It IS lndeed flttlng and proper to say that General Fenton s enthuslasm for the Mllltary Academy and the thlngs for wh1ch lt stands IS as great today as It was IH the days of h1 HCIIVG serxlce He g1VeS freely of h1s tlme to the many actlx 1t1es of the Mllltary Academy and ln addltlon has been the Pres1dent of the ASSOCIJIIOH of Graduates from 1947 Thls offxce IS an 9l6Ct1Y6 one and not an honorary one General Fenton resldes at 26 Rlver Avenue Cornwall on the Hud son New York a dlstance of approx1mately SIX mlles north of West Polnt Practlcally each day General Fenton travels to and from West Polnt to not only perform hls dutles as the Pres1dent of the Flrst National Bank of Hlghland Falls and Pres1dent of the Assoc1at1on of Graduates but to glve to the MllltdTV Academx the benef1t of hls experlence and sound Judgment As a splendld cltxzen of these Umted States General Fenton IS just as enthuslastlc IH hls partlclpatlon 1n CIVIC functlons as he IS ln act1v1 t1es connected w1th the Army To mentlon only a few he IS a member of the Century Club of New York C1ty a member of the Lake Placld Club Army and Navy Club Washlngton D C Mllltary Naval Club of New York Cxty and an offlcer of the Republlcan Club of Cornwall New York Wrltten by Col John A McComsey Umted States Mxlltny Academy West Pomt New York . . .
