Text from Pages 1 - 56 of the 1957 volume:

THE KEY The class of 1957 ever mindful that Trade and Vocational education trains the youth of our country for many and diverse trades, and opens the door to vast horizons conquerable by all who are so educated, christen this the first of what is hoped will be a long succession of annual yearbooks . . . THE KEY. Our yearbook will always be THE KEY to our memories of many happy days spent in school, and the friendships we treasure so much among our classmates and teachers. Mr. Walter J. Markham DEDICATION The grduating class of 1957 is most pleased and honored to dedicate the first yearbook in the history of the Lowell Voca- tional Schools, to a man associated with us for many years as a teacher, director, and guardian. For this privilege we say thanks a million to our Mr. Markham, and with this dedication goes our every wish and prayer for supreme success in his new position as state director of all Massachusetts ' Trade and Vocational High Schools. Mr. John J. Gildee Mr. James P. McCann AD MULTOS ANNOS At the close of the present school year, two of our long term faculty members will hang up their pedagogical robes and join the retired teachers ' club. John J. Gildee, head of our automobile department, is com- pleting his thirty-seventh year in vocational education. During this time many thousands of young men had the advantage of his guidance and training in the day school, evening division and at university extension courses. James P. McCann, head of our carpentry and woodworking department, is completing his thirty-third year. Mr. McCann also spent many a busy day and evening with thousands of fledgling carpenters in the greater Lowell area, and it is safe to say that he has personally molded careers of the vast majority of them. All of us regret their departure. We know the Trade High School will never seem the same without them. To both of you go our every wish for continued good health, happiness, and good cheer in your new roles as gentlemen of leisure. You are products of Vocational Education. Your lives have been enriched with a foundation that will stand. May you continue to build upon it throughout your lives so that you may become better citizens of a better tomorrow. Charles P. Conlon, Director Think only of the best, work only for the best and expect only the best. Live in the faith that the world is on your side as long as you are true to the best that is in you.
