The 1966 Pickout Message from the President The best of the fine group that matriculated at Lowell Technological Institute with high hopes just a short time ago now takes leave of us as the graduating class of 1966. You have ample reason to be most proud of the fact you survived those difficult years which saw many of your classmates fall by the wayside, and mas- tered in varying degree the skills needed to compete successfully in the professional world awaiting you. That professional world is indeed a remarkable one. Perhaps never in the turbu- lent history of our nation have such awesome challenges as those of the mid-sixties confronted young Americans. You are venturing into a world faced with national and international problems of enormous gravity and complexity. At the same time, the portion of your professional education just now completed is a good deal better education than was generally available only a few years ago. With it, and with these challenges to stimulate your use of it, you face the new professional world with majo r promise. In technology, science, and space, for which your education at Lowell Tech so admirably fits you, the opportunities are unlimited. The same high hopes and the same rugged determination you brought here when you started, now tempered with knowledge, skills, and judgment garnered in these years of study, will serve you well.
