Mr. Riddick, a Lowell native, began his football career at Lowell High School, where he was team captain and all state end in 1934. After high school. he was a letterman at Fordham lfniversity for three years. As a senior at Fordham, he was an All East selection and played on the first All Star team which defeated the New York Giants in 1940. ' The Green Bay Packers signed Mr, Riddick fresh out of Fordham, and, in his second year, he was Q named to the All Pro second team. His pro football career, which was interrupted by three years in the Navy, ended in 1946, when he became assistant football coach at Lowell High. For 29 years. Mr. Riddick guided Lowell High football teams to successful seasons. His record of 180 wins, 73 losses, and 14 ties, 10 undefeated seasons and 4 trips to post season bowl games, established him among the ranks of the top high school coaches in the nation. The recipient of numerous civic awards. Mr. Riddick was inducted into the Fordham University Hall of Fame on May 16. 1975. Our class shares the grief of his family and friends. We have all lost a great and good man. We have all been diminished by his death. 10 -19- ff ,111 . nx,N1WLn1l 11N YIN N H' 1911 IJL H11 NLS-4' .rg l,nJn 11Hm1 4.Hhx 1Mrn Hqn V4qurNv 11mm R 1 IHHII1 T111 mfr-I:L1NLnJw Lv, -1 XNJJM-up U1M.u111Hu- N1H1uMurH1 hw QuuH4n,NLw 'Ks 11 1111 P1Y I.11'-'ks-1111 N 1.1 I 1 7111- 11-1?11:'1. 11 H x'1NlHl1l1l'1'.l111lF1'N 1111111 14111T1 H1111 11111111 111111111 1'11-1111111111 '77 X4'1'1l'-1111.1 X1.l11-ILQVI 11111-. 11I'f11lI1'- l'111-1--u11.1111111r 1114 f 11-1111111111 XINIIFN 11r1f111 N1- 1111111111-.111 f11VH1f N1f1VfH-w11N 1111 1-1.1111-1-11 -'111 x-..-.11--- '1 '111l111+ 1.11.1111 111111111 .11111 1.11-1l1I'N 11111 1111 111111 1111H11ngH1q1w?11'h1 lH4u1H fU1U nf H11 Vlmh Slqfufh 41p11I1,n1H14m1r1 PVYVI S1JHll3 111111-11111-111'-',111111111f.11111--11111v1.1111111 1 .11 1111-19111111.11-1111111--1-11.1'1-11-1I1-1.11111111311.11111.1-,-11--.1111111-11111-11111-1111111 11X11111u 1 N111'1 11.11111--N .111-1 111,111 11.1111-+111 1'111-711111111-11 111 111111-1111 XN1'111g1VT.'1 L' ' , Q . Kouloheras. 88 in .4' Peter S. Stamas Headmaster The true value and measurement of your high school education is not registered by your test scores and grades. It will, however, be measured again and again throughout your lives and in many ways. How meaningful and productive will your future efforts be? How good and loving a spouse and parent will you be? What kind of citizen and neighbor will you become? In what way will you have made this world a better place? What kind of legacy will you leave behind? The education you have received thus far is but the beginning. Learning must not be fully equated to schooling. Learning for the human being starts at the time of birth and is a continuous process throughout that human being's life. We hope that your formal education up to this point has provided you with basic skillsg but, more importantly, that it has aroused your curiosity and interest and commitment to that which is right - to do that which is good. We wish you well! 89 SNA. 1: Stanley I. Stoklosa Ioseph M. Regan Master Deon of Faculty VN ri L I K 'sri L HJ -'CZ' Eugene N. Beatrice Iohnston Beatrice Iohnston was active for many years in the Y.W.C.A. and Girls' Club educational and recreational programs before coming to Lowell High School thirteen years ago. She majored in physical education at Posse-Nissen College and has done graduate work at Syracuse University. As a student at Lowell High, she was a Girl Officer, and has remained active in their alumnae association, a background that ideally suited her for her appointment four years ago as Director of Girl Officers. She views her tenure in that position as a transitional period for the girls that is still ongoing. Mrs. Iohnston hopes that, in the future, Girl Officers will have a more clearly defined leadership role within the school. , ln retirement, Mrs. Iohnston looks forward to spending more time with her family, particularly her two grandchildren. Our class joins the many cheerleaders, Girl Officers, and phys. ed. students to whom Mrs. lohnston has unselfishly devoted many hours, in wishing her a happy, healthy retirement. Helen Lannon Helen Lannon retired this year after a career in education that spans forty-six years. A recipient of the Carney Medal at Lowell High School, Miss Lannon was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Boston University, where she majored in Latin. For the last eleven years, she has been a guidance counsellor for the junior Class at Lowell High. Miss Lannon attributes the recent decline in college board scores to the fact that so few students study Latin today, and she recommends a return to the more traditional curriculum as an answer to this problem. While admitting that she has been too busy to even think about retirement, Miss Lannon plans to keep in touch with young people by doing volunteer work and, perhaps, some tutoring. After the many years Helen Lannon has devoted to the education of the students of Lowell, our class's wish for her happy retirement reflects the gratitude of generations of students who wish her well. Lowell High will be the less for her departure. QE 103 Q' fi? Paul Demogenes Paul Demogenes, who taught for many years in the Business Department of Lowell High School, died in the Autumn of 1975, after a long and distinguished career. A valedictorian both at Lowell High and Boston University, he served with the First Division during World War II, and continued in the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Turning his tremendous drive to the educational field, he taught accounting with the same enthusiasm and dedication which had characterized his earlier career, often spending long, arduous hours after school helping his students to acquire needed skills. As a teacher, Paul Demogenes will long be remembered for his enthusiasm and dedication, as well as his great personal courage when, even in the face of failing health, he persevered in the teaching profession and contir-ued to impart his standards of excellence to his students. 104 School Staff X l Alice Bebler RN. Hightf Officers compete in the Ceneralcy. l t ..,.-v Cadet Cfficers Since 1880, the Cadet Officers' Brigade has been influential in developing the leadership potential of outstanding Lowell High School Students. During their junior year, boys compete for ranks in both written and physical exams. The Ceneralcy, a grueling competition for promotions within the ranks, is conducted at the beginning of the senior year. Under the guidance of faculty directors, Colonel Iohn Beaulieu and Lieutenant Philip Dancause, Bri- gadier Ceneral Edward Crzyb and Colonel David Finnegan have led the brigade to the completion of another successful year. ii? if The ilitar Ball For the first time in the History of Lowell High School, the Cadet Officers and the Girl Officers Regi- ments combined their formal danc- es into one spectacular affair, the Military Ball. March 19, 1976 marked the occa- sion of this precedent setting event, climaxing weeks of excitement and preparation for the officers and their dates. The Lowell Memorial Audito- rium, lavishly decorated for the af- fair in vibrant red and white, was alive with the gaiety and laughter of exuberant young dancers. As waves of music from Billy Note's orchestra floated through the air, couples, in a kaleidoscope of beau- tiful gowns and elegant tuxedos, whirled about the floor, capturing the thrilling moments of the eve- ning in memories to be savored in the years to come.
