Man firsf began his explorafions by diving from fhe calm. blue surface and descending info fhe cool currenfs of sub- ferranean caverns and moss covered plains. Buf only a very few minufes af a fime could be spenf in fhis wonderland, because of fhe laclc of oxygen. The invenfion and success of fhe diving suif followed.
