Blood. ASKETB LL Lowell High School's Red Devils were superb in this year's league and tournament play, win- ning 22 games while losing only 4. Coach Lyle Carter's ranging Red Devils, showing superior defense, tied Coburg in the B-League race for a co-championship trophy with 11 wins and 5 loss- es. Siletz, Halsey, Monroe and our own Red Devils were the contestants in the annual Christmas Holiday tournament, with the Devils obtaining first place, Halsey, secondg Monroe taking thirdg and Siletz bringing up fourth. At the close of league play, the B-League tournament at' McArthur Court was held with Lowell waxing Coburg for an easy B-League title, Lowell's fifth county crown. Going into District play, Lowell lost to Harrisburg, State basketball champions, but went on to beat Siletz for consolation honors thus winding up a season of spectacular playing under the bril- liant coaching of Lyle Carter, who has presented Lowell High with a team of the highest stand- ing in the school history. B-League tournament all-stars chosen from Lowell were Arlie Brown, center, and Richard Scheibner, forward. District All-Stars chosen from Lowell were Arlie Brown, Richard Scheibner and Ronald Matheny. Brown, a man of stature, found no equal in B-League competition, enabling him to score 297 points this year. Scheibner, a cool, fast-thinking player, helped his team im- measurably offensively and defensively in season and tournament play. Ronald Matheny, Low- ell's second highest scorer, with 178 points, possessing unlimited ability, is a junior, with one year of eligibility remaining.
