CROSS COUNTRY Cross country is a lonely sport, with no glamorous re¬ wards, that takes a great deal of individual effort to succeed. Our Lowell runners are espe¬ cially aware of this as they ended their season with one win, eight losses and placed last in conference. Senior Mark Bartz led the team, and Kelly Pierce was awarded most im¬ proved runner. Coach Dan Martin, who is new to the sport himself, has a great deal of confidence in next season. Row 1: C. Smith, S. Wietbrock, K. Pierce, I. Gordon. Row 2: Coach Mar¬ tin, M. Bartz, S. Frahm, D. Harris, G. Cooper. 13

Sectional qualifiers in¬ cluded 3 seniors, 3 juniors, and 4 sophomores. Moving on to Re¬ gional were Mark Wietbrock in pole vaulting and Mark Langen for the 100 yard dash. Keeping the morale up were seniors Don Peddy, Chester Bunkowfst, Greg Duncan, Chuck Sharkey, Mark Bartz, and Mark Wietbrock. Coach Cusic is optomistic about next year, looking forward to an experienced team. 5
