The participants in Lowell ' s 1965 Junior Miss Pageant were (left to right) Ruthann Branham, Susan Campbell, Susan Cox, Carol Larson, and Trudy Lawyer. Junior Miss Pageant Sue models an outfit she made for the fine arts category. The crowning of the Junior Miss, Susan Cox, was the climax of the evening. Placing the crown on her head is James Purkey, president of the Lowell Jaycees. The second annual Junior Miss Pageant sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce was held December 17 1964. Five senior girls were judged in these categories: fine arts, scholarship, poise and appearance, and physical fitness. Each girl was interviewed by the judges for five minutes. This was also considered in the ratings. The girls attended a luncheon with the judges before the pageant. Each girl took a great deal of her time in preparation for the pageant. The time was not wasted because each girl gained something from the experience. The girls were presented with silver charm bracelets with the Junior Miss charm. 24
