Wilfred Hetzel The Student Council earns most of its money from the Student pop machine. The Student Council trys to reinvest the money back into the school by sponsoring activity days, assembly programs, and a major school improvement project. This year they sponsored a basketball trick-shot artist, a Dress-up day, a Slob day, and a Nerd day. They also hosted the Christmas party with a volleyball tournament, a lip sync contest, various games, and a visit from Santa with gifts for the faculty. They sponsored several all-school dances, attended the Eastern Illinois District Convention, and attended the State Convention in Chicago. We feel the highlights of the year was our school improvement project in which the Student Council purchased the shrubs for the front and west side of the school. We feel these can be a lasting contribution from the 84-85 Student Counil. S3 LHS CLUB Row 1: Mr. Bell, Troy Doty, Chad Hale . Robert Wolfe, Dan Watkins, Aaron Bolsen. Marc Agney. Row 2 Rod Fair. SENIOR CLASS TRIP Our class was the first class in Lovington history to ever fly on an airplane. At 4:45 A.M. our Chaperones checked our luggage here at school and we left by vans and cars for Champaign. At 5:00 A.M. Saturday morning. May 4, 1985, where we left on Ozark Airlines with stops in Indianapolis and then to Orlando, Florida and DisnayWorlds GRAD NITE. We even saw Lovington from the sky in the airplane. Instead of going to the bus terminal, Roger, Kenny and Mrs. Bolsen went to the Skyline Coctail lounge for coctails in Orlan- do. We then chartered a bus from Orlando to Lake Buena Vista and checked into our rooms. Kenny lost his wallet and found it in his shoe after we had torn the rooms apart looking for it. The Senior class boards the plane. The seniors getting ready for GRADNTTE. Chad, Robert, Troy, Amy, Gina,Julie, Aaron, Danny and Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, Barry, Mrs. Bolsen and Mrs. Caywood went swimming at the Buena Vista Club; Harold. Richard and Lee Ann rode the Monorail around Epcot and the Magic Kingdom; Roger and Brian walked around and stayed in their room; while Donna and Eileen went shopping. At 5:30 P.M. we got ready to go eat on the Empress Lily showboat. We divided in half and one half went downstairs for steaks while the other half went upstairs for sea food. None of us paid less than twenty dollars for our meal. After we ate. we headed for the Magic Kingdom. We were one of the first schools to arrive for GRADNITE which officially started at 11:00 P.M. We began the evening by riding Space Mountain. We enjoyed it so much the first time that we went through and rode it again. When we finished with that we split up into groups again. Amy, Julie, and Gina looked for guys. Robert. Chad, Troy and Aaron went their way and Richard, Kenny, Danny, Lee Ann, Harold, and Barry went and saw the bands, and rode rides. GRADNITE included the four hit bands Shalimar, Teena Marie. Midnight Star, and Animotion. All bands gave great performances but Animotion gave the longest and the best. Everybody really got into it. Each band performed in different places, and each gave 3 shows that night. At 4 A.M. Sunday morning we all met at the front entrance and headed back to our rooms. When we got there it was almost 5 A.M. Julie, Amy, and Gina went into giggling fits, and Brian got locked out of his room and yelled rape. Kenny finally let him in. About 9 A.M. a few people went for brunch, while the others went shopping. After we got finished we all went and met at the bus stop outside our rooms, and headed for Epcot. At Epcot we split into groups again, and toured the park, and at 3:30 P.M. we met at the front, and left to catch our plane home. We got back to the school at about 11:30 P.M. Sunday night. We were all tired but we thought it was worth our four years of hard work. Splish Splash I was taking a bath!! GRADNITE 85 GRADNITE was held on Saturday night, May 4, at the Magic Kingdom. It was the biggest party of the year for graduating sen- iors from all over the United States. We were the smallest class to go to GRADNITE. Ap- proximately 40,000 1985 seniors attended the all-night party from 11 P.M. to 5 A.M. It is a once a year blast. They have guidelines such as what clothes you have to wear. For boys you have to wear a suit and tie or sports jacket, and for the girls they can wear a dress, pants and skirt outfits with jackets and dress shoes. Once you enter GRADNITE they have to remain until — 5 A.M. It is really a fascinating experience if you want to party. 77 JUNIOR- SENIOR PROM The 1985 Junior-Senior Prom. You're The Inspiration, was held at the Civic Center in Decatur. The decorations consisted of streamers, balloons, and flowers beautifully done in peach, white and yellow. Rod Fair served as Master of Ceremony at the ban- quet. Julie Hissong and Sue Reedy read the prophecy, and Chad Hale read the Senior class will. The music for the dance was sup- plied by Lickety Split. The Post Prom activi- ties were held in the High School gym. PROM KING AND QUEEN KEN STAPLES AND JULIE BOYD PROM COURT Row 1: Robert Wolfe, Lee Ann Griswold, Jan Clough, Chad Hale. Row 2: Jim Brust, Ken Staples, Julie Boyd. Kelly Rcdfcrn. 80 81 Senior Class Will We, the members of the Lovington High School Senior Class of 1985, being of good health and of sound mind and memory, and believing of our near departure from the afore school, do hereby make and declare this instrument of writing to be our last will and testament as seniors and students of L.H.S. 1, Brian Barger, leave L.H.S. in suspense of What’s the colo- nel's secret recipe.'' I, Aaron Bolsen, leave Jon Day a pair of basketball shorts that fit. I, Julie Boyd, leave Rod, Jon, Brad, Gina (weiner), and Sue a years supply of candy and gum. To my brother, Jamie, I leave peace, quiet, and my chores after I leave. To my special friend, Trudy, a senior year that is as memorable and as special as she made mine. I, Jan Clough, leave my little sister in hopes that she finds a best friend like Wendi. I, Amy Cook, leave Gina Brust with two more years to find a better nickname than weiner. I would also like to leave Gina the strength to excell in everything she does. I, Troy Doty, leave some brave soul the ability to be the first one out of a shoe scramble. I, Gina Dyer, leave L.H.S. I, Marcia Franklin, leave Lisa Alumbaugh another class that talks more than anything else. I, Wendi Goodwin, leave Mrs. Uphoff my headaches with hopes that she can handle them better than I did. I, Lee Ann Griswold, leave Patty Patterson 1 year free grammar lessons, and Eric Dyer a free ticket to the Thompson Twins World Tour. 1, Chad Hale, leave L.H.S. a new announcement typist that Mrs. Gullick and the rest of the school appreciates. I. Mike Kilcullen, leave L.H.S. I. Richard Phelps, leave Mr. Bell in hopes that he can have a yearbook next year that isn’t based on one person. I, Easter Seelow, leave Mr. Bell a whistle for first hour study hall. I, Kenny Staples, leave the nickname Juice to anyone in the backfield. I also leave Jackie in hopes that she has a great senior year like I have had. I, Roger Walker, leave L.H.S. with my drivers license, and I leave to Mr. Morgan an easier 3rd hour art class since Brad won’t have me to talk to. I, Jerilee Watkins, leave Gina Brust 5000 green balloons. And to anyone else as good of friend as she has been to me. I. Dan Watkins, leave my nickname of Goose to anyone de- serving of it. I also leave Mrs. Gullick someone else to criticize when it comes to writing. 1, Harold White, leave Lynn a senior year as great as mine. I also leave to the school a hospital annex in commemoration of my sophomore year. 1, Robert Wolfe, leave the football team a victory over Maroa. 1, Rick Franklin, leave L.H.S. We, the class of 1985, leave to the faculty the following: To Mr. Allen, we leave a time-locked door set to keep his stu- dents in class until 9:12. To Mr. Bell, we leave a snooze alarm for use in his computer class, and a computer book that repeats the same chapters 3 times. To Mrs. Bolsen, we leave a portable play-ground for her kids so they won’t have to play in the other classes' homecoming win- dows. To Mrs. Caywood, we leave a track team that will run at her own pace, and a wardrobe of all the wrong colors. To Mr. Farr, we leave a combination set of a veto stamp and a Don’t Even Ask sign to wear around his neck. To Mrs. Gullick, we leave a class that will take notes instead of passing them. To Mr. Gullick, we leave an office empty of workers since no- body without a college degree will be able to pass next years entrance exams. Dearest Lowell, We leave you a life full of repairs. , ' r Sincerely yours. The Class of '85. To Mrs. Molzen. we leave a son that acknowledges her exis- tence at L.H.S. To Mr. Peadro, we leave you, you, you, you, you!!!!!!! To Mr. Morgan, we leave to sit in solemn silence, on a dull, dark dock in a pestilential marriage with a lifelong lock. To Mr. Spencer, we leave 5 varsity players only so he won't have to worry about who to bench. To Mr. Mueller, we leave a starting block and a pair of track spikes for marching band practice. To Mrs. Thompson, we leave a foreign language class whose vocabulary is not limited to one phrase — Vamos a tener una fiesta,! or in English — Let’s Party! To Mrs. Uphoff we leave a set pee” to buy a video recorder that automatically censors class play practices. We leave Ike knowing he'll never have to call and explain Ju- lie’s tardiness again. We leave Mrs. Wilson content because she got the only thing she ever wanted — a new chair. To the Board of Education we leave the permission to grant your students, or children as the case may be, free run of the school. This will help to ease the guilt when you let them do it anyway. To Julie Kidwell we leave a calendar where everyday is a holi- day. Now she’ll always have an excuse for an office party. To Marjorie Broutin we leave the thought of having two kids in the same school to worry about — when one was more than enough. To the class of '86 we leave the thought that now that we re gone, you’ll finally be number one. To the class of '87 we leave a referee for all class meetings. To the class of '88 we leave the thought that it is quality, not quantity, that counts, so Gopher It next year at float-build- ing. 82 Prophecy It was May 24, 2006 on a dull dark night that the wonderful class of 1986 gathered in Curry's parking lot for their twentieth class reunion. The party became boring so Mr. Farr (the old High School principal) invited the class to his old high school, LHS. He told the alumni that central Illinois had consolidated all the schools into one. So the community made the school into a civic center. We all entered the gym and saw the huge television screen that covered the stage. We then all gathered around and someone turned the t.v. on to channel 85 — a non educational, non informational channel featuring the graduates of the class of 85. The channel had several different programs. A gasp was heard as the group recognized Richard Phelps who was co-hosting with Robin Leach on the show LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS. Another gasp was heard as the group recognized Jan Clough, the former Midwestern Trucker Queen and her personal manager Wendi Goodwin who he was interviewing. They told how she made their for- tune in Clough-Glo Pots and Pans. We all were still stunned by Jans appearance when someone noticed good ol' Dan Watkins who by then was in the middle of being interviewed. Richard asked, Now that you have made your fortune Mr. Watkins, what are your future plans? We all laughed as Dan said, I am planning to marry my girlfriend of twenty-six years, but I don't want to rush into anything. At the commercial break we were all amazed to see Jerilee Watkins endorsing Sleep Tight All Night sleeping pills. She said the remarkable thing about the pills was that you could sleep through class and still pass. Someone tried to switch the channel but we were still interest- ed in LIFESTYLES. We heard Richard say Our final guest to- night is Robert Wolfe. Robert is the proud captain of the Big Bad Bart Cruisline that features the Solid Gold Dancers. Robert briefly stated, Now that I have my own cruisline, I will never be off the boat again. One of the girls having seen enough of Robert jumped up and flipped the television to another channel. T.V.S BLOOPERS AND PRACTICAL JOKES was on, none other than Troy Doty was the co-host with the unaged Dick Clark. The nights show was featuring special car bloopers. Troy was interviewing (on the scene) when we noticed that it was Rick Franklin who was being featured with his new line of carzy cars. Rick stated that the outstanding feature of his feature of his new car was that it only went in reverse. Following Rick was Easter Seelow, she was on the show telling her own car antic when she thought that driving on the grass instead of the road would save her tires. She was just explaining that not everyone agreed with her when everyones attention was drawn to Troy, as a large gust of wind came swooshing across the set blowing his toupe off. Troy never ruffling replied as he rubbed his bald head, Isn't that just interesting. Out of sympathy for Troy someone quickly changed the pro- gram to NOT NECESSARILY THE NEWS. It was none other than Marcia Franklin reporting live from an Illinois farm sale. She was interviewing Aaron Bolsen, the newly elected President of the Miss Piggy Fan Club. Aaron's only comment was She's the best! Marcia then cut to a commercial. Lovington's own Roger Walker was running for President of the United States. His campaign slogan was Hey dude, let's party. After the commercial Marcia came back on interviewing Kenny Staples, star of the 1984 Lovington Junior-Senior Class Play. He was telling about self-help Snausage Rehabilitation Center of Snau- sage addicts. The next interview was Chad Hale who was dressed meticulously in a three piece suit. As the camera passed over the scene we could see the ruins of his own bank, the Hardware State Bank of Cullum that had been destroyed by Fire. We all felt for Chad by the end of the interview as he said, Hey, hey, well isn't that just something.” The last seg- ment of NOT NECESSARILY THE NEWS was a news reel of a red Monte Carlo being demolished by a run-away mass tran- sit bus. When the owner of the car, Gina Dyer, emerged from the scene of the accident, she said, You won't believe this, but the same thing happened to me over twenty years ago. It was in the high school parking lot and the bus was driven by Ike Boyd.” There was another Newsbreak and the reporter said that three deranged people were discovered zooming around Space Mountain. They said they had been left over twenty years before by a wild and crazy group. The survivors turned out to be Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Bolsen, and Mrs. Caywood of Lovington High School. The next show that came on was STARSEARCH 06. In the vocal group catagory we were not surprised to see Bryan Barger, the keyboard man for the group Police 2. We all en- joyed Bryan's jamming at the board. Introducing the next group was the seductive Amy Cook who was competing for the spokemodel title. She introduced the following group, Wellington Whoppers. In the center of the stage was LeeAnn Griswold. In the heart of the song LeeAnn was deep into a drum solo when she lost a drum stick and it struck the elderly Ed McMahon in the forehead. Lee Ann seeing what she had done promptly fainted. They quickly moved the camera back to Amy Cook. She did not realize that she was on the air and she was in a conversation with Jerry Falwell. We all picked up a few words about the Moral Majority. The camera man cut to a commercial when he realized the mistake. The commercial was of the 2006 Missy Swimsuit Calendar. Harold White was giving details of his fully colored calendar which he had done all the photography and annimation for himself. Everyone chuckled at the rip-off for we were halfway through 2006. As the STARSEARCH show was about to end we all recog- nized Julie Boyd who came running on the set ten minutes after the commercial was over. She bounded in front of the cmaera humming 'YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT, and apolo- gizing for being late for her performance. The group was getting tired but decided to check out one last program. Someone switched to the night hit program SOUL TRAIN and we were bid a fond farewell by the new Conduc- tor, Mike Killculen. 81 GRADUATION Prelude ................................................Jr.-Sr. High School Band Matthew Mueller.
