Gullick Being the superintendent of schools might be compared to preparing for participating in the Olympic Games. The Olympic athlete who prepares for the decathlon must build his stamina and endurance to ready himself in ten different areas. School administration re- quires preparation and skill in at least as many areas as well as patience and wisdom to deal with a myriad of situations. The goal of the Olumpic Games is to win the gold medal. In the “game of education the gold medal is the boy or girl who succeeds in becoming a positive contributor in his com- munity. Principal Dale Farr In battle or business, whatever the game. In law or in love, it is ever the same: In the struggle for power. Or the scramble for pelf, Let this be your motto — Rely on yourself! For, whether the prize be a ribbon or throne. The vistor is he who can do it alone! John Godfrey Saxe Let this be a challenge to all students at L.H.S., cspccailly to the Class of 1983, to whom 1 wish the best of luck in their chosen endeavors. I, Lisa Dyer, leave the 800 and the mile run to Debbie McCoy, and a ready made relish tray to Marjorie for all the Unit Office parties. I. L.H.S. — In hopes that they will come into money enough to pay off all debts. 51 Prophecy It is the year 2003 and the Class of '84 is taking an oceanlincr cruise around the world from California to New York. On our way to the dock we see Dennis Wood delivering mail in his jeep. As we board the ship, we are met by the ship's social director, Marylisa, who is always looking for stray prep men. After getting settled in, we venture to the ship's theatre and are mildly surprised to see an onstage performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with Bob Webb playing the role of Frankfurter with Amy Walters as Janet. Also we enjoyed the entertainment for the even- ing, Trisha Redfern and Troy Phelps. As we sail towards Hawaii, we find that Lori Born and Dawn Patrick are also taking the cruise so that the guys in Bethany and Sullivan will have a chance to meet other women. When we dock in Hawaii, we notice Lisa Dyer running along the pier training for the 2004 Olympics. During our tour of the islands, we enter Moose's Pac-man Health Spa and are happy to know that he and Penny own the spa and are still playing Pac-man. Our next stop is Japan where we find Connie Burge at a car lot finally buying a new car, since hers fell apart after all those trips to Mattoon. We also happen to see Diana Phelps finding new roads to cruise on, since she wore out all the roads in Lovington. When we dock in Iran, we notice a seaside work-out gym. After entering we discover the owner is Tcri Elzy, and she is working out for the next chance to fight in a basketball game. As we travel on to Saudi Arabia, we are surprised to find “Sheik Tom Gordon owning his own oil well so that he can supply his fuel to go cruising. After a long sunny cruise we find ourselves in Casablanca where Annette Coslow owns her Freak Shop so all the freaky people will have a place to freak. Then it’s on to Rome, the City of Love, and we aren’t surprised to find that Tom Griffin, Bob Davis, Eric Agney and Kip Newberry own a dating service with their old policy of you get what you pay for. Next, in Monte Carlo we find Dan Fritts working as a mechanic on his race car driven by Kevin Bryant. Well, it’s on to France, and we see all the new fads and latest stereo equipment. Our old friend Greg Tarr owns a variety store of stereo equipment. At each of our stops we noticed two familiar females driving around in a green Plymouth Dart. We finally catch these two in Poland and find out it’s Dee Ellis and Jackie Fitzgibbons still trying to find an exciting town to cruise in. While in Poland we decide to go on into Russia where we meet our friend Tony “Breznev Brust, the new ruler of Russia, and he gives us a tour of his beautiful city of Moscow. It’s back to the States and our last stop is New York. When we get here, we take a walk down Park Avenue and find that Shona Fitzgibbons and Annette Renfro own the “True Gossip” in which they talk about everyone they can think of in every country around the world. Farther down the street we enter into Jeff Drone's Mirror Shop where he has mirrors on the ceiling and walls to make sure his hair looks just right. The end is here, and we are happy to find that the 1983 graduates are successful people in the world of 2003. 52 SMOII VZIN Yearbook Staff Amy Walters, editor Row I: Rhonda Hill. In December they sponsored a Christmas dance and in February a Valentine dance. 55 Student Council The student council has as its main goal to provide activities and events for the enjoyment and benefit of the entire student body. To do so more effectively, the student council is di- vided into four active committees. The activity committee plans an ac- tivity for each month. Some of the days sponsored this year have been Punk Day, Valentine Day and Twin Day. Another important committee has been the money-making commit- tee. To earn money to be used as prizes and projects the committee has sponsored a taco party, a raffle, a banana split party and maintained the school pop machine. Using the money earned is another committee, the assembly program committee. This committee has hosted a volley- ball tournament, a magic show and a martial arts demonstration. The school projects committee has con- sidered cleaning the stage curtains and renovating the A-V room into a lunch room. The student council is also involved in district and state ac- tivities. Even though they were minus one girl for two complete teams, they fulfilled both their varsity and junior varsity schedules. Senior guard Amy Walters was the only returning varsity starter. She contributed 182 points throughout the season for the highest points. She also had the best freethrow percentage and the best game point average. Amy Cook had the most rebounds, Deborah McCoy had the most steals and assists, and Christina Schuetz the most blocked shots. Every team member lettered in varsity basketball this year.
