English Mrs. Judy Uphoff Miss Polly Cooke, Mrs. Ellen Thomas, and Mrs. Judy Uphoff make up our English department. Miss Cooke teaches basic English, English III and IV, and journalism. Mrs. Thomas teaches basic English and English II while English I is taught by Mrs. Uphoff. English IV, a college - bound course, is designed to prepare senior students to work independently, as college courses demand. The English IV students contracted for their grades and were responsible for various projects during the last quarter. The basic English classes, in their second year in the curriculum, concentrated on vocational English and communication skills. Mrs. Ellen Thomas

Business Mr. Don Bell Mr. Donald Bell is the head of the Business department at L.H.S. He teaches Typing I 2, shorthand, Office Practice, Bookkeeping, and Vocational Math. These classes are to help students in today’s business world.

Fine Arts The chorus, directed by Mrs. Brenda Dannewitz, has had a rewarding year. Small ensembles and soloists participated in contest on March 3. They received ten firsts and ten seconds. The full mixed chorus received a first place award at contest on April 7. The groups and soloists performed for many school and community events such as Senior Citizens, Christmas program, Spring concert, baccalaureate, and graduation. Mrs. Brenda Dannewitz Singing the ‘National Anthem’ at a football game.' The high school band, under the direction of Mr. David Deitemyer, has had a busy year. They received a third division rating at the 1979 band contest. The band, which has 41 members, performed at basketball games, the Spring concert, and graduation. Mr. Deitemyer and the band were practicing diligently during the spring in anticipation of next fall’s marching band. Mr. Don Morgan teaches art at the high school, junior high, and grade school. Many of his art students traveled to the Scholastic Art Awards Show in Champaign. Two of his students, Cody Gentry and Rhonda Morgan, took their art work to New York. Mr. Morgan’s art classes hold an annual art show in which their artwork is displayed downtown for the community to enjoy. Mr. Don Morgan 13
