His name was Dionisio Bemadina Silva from Vitoria, Brazil. With the cooperation of the school board, student council and International Fellowship, Dio was lucky enough to have this opportunity in the United States. Being Lovington’s first exchange student he brought with him the ability to get much attention from the students and faculty. His six month stay proved to be interesting for him and many of the new friends he has made. Dio took many adventures while in the U.S. He visited Chicago, St. Louis, Washington D.C., New York, his cousin who was a foreign exchange student in Iowa, and many other small trips around the vicinity. Lovington High School hopes to host another exchange student again next year. 18 SENIORS Larry Anderson Jeff Brown Susan Brown Brownie” Good luck to the rest. The Purple and Gold Staff successfully completed the publishing of nine newspapers in the school year 1974-75. They learned the techniques of large newspapers and tried their own skills at some of these techniques. Such areas as Sports, club news, front page news, entertainment, feature, and editorial pages were covered. Each member had their own beat that they had to cover for that particular issue. They also were assigned page editors for each issue, others typed, proofread, dummied, and printed the paper. The Panther served as the mascot for the paper.
