Best 1914-1973 HE IS NOT DEAD I cannot say, and I will not say That he is dead. He is just away. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He has wandered into an unknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you--oh, you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return, Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same. I say. He is not dead-he is just away. James Whitcomb Riley As a token of our great esteem for Mr. A. E. Best, we, the 1974 Mirror Staff, have ded- icated this yearbook in his honor. At this time we would like to express our gratitude for his guidance, leadership, and consideration for every individual of L. H. S. Mr. A. E. Best may not be with us now but he will always be in our hearts. Taking a break from all that paper work. Addressing the Senior Citizens at the Student Council Easter Dinner. Daily work, weekly meetings, deadlines, tempers, rewards all make up this too-often forgotten club. As the season went on the team got things together and finished the season great. Our best game was against Illiopolis. Our defense and our offense were just great. We scored a total of 32 points and the defense held off the team with great skill. They were a fine team this year and many of our players will return again next year. 61 Basketball S. Played fine basketball to finish 3rd in the Atwood tourney. This past year the young women of Lovington High School took an active part in various sports. Volleyball was the fall sport, basketball, the winter sport, and track, the spring sport. Each and every girl enjoyed the sporting season and Mrs. Thomas was a fine coach. Without the help of the statisticians, the basketball team would have been with- out records of rebounding, shooting, or fouls. They did a great job. 71 Sophomores sign, Linda Newlan. Group Completes Study It has been another good year in Lovington, though different from last year in that we didn’t have a group so large that we could make a crowd of our own standing in the hall. We spent much time with students, listening to them share their experiences with us and learning a great deal about life in school and in the community as seen through their eyes. We'll miss the friendly hi's and long remember the many friends we've made. 107 Advertising STATE BANK OF ARTHUR Complete Banking Service Established 1910 Member Federal Reserve System Phone 543-2111 Arthur, Illinois Each depositor insured to $20.000 PfDIRAl DIROS't iNJllRANCI CORRORAT.ON 109 The Lovington Reporter Lovington, Illinois Phone 873-4889 .-s, 7 .
