It was produced and directed by Mr. Harrer and Mrs. Uphoff. After weeks of grueling re- hearsals the actors and actresses, se- lected from the Junior class, were ready for the opening night curtain. This play was on excerpt from a normal day in the household of the Sky family. It was a three-act play centered around four telephone calls that later caused a disaster in the household. While Sunny rehearses frantically, messages start to come and Sunny gets them all wrong. Grandma gets Connie’s message. Mother received Dad’s. Dad believes he's been fired and Connie thinks she's jilted. Then Sunny loses her voice while trying out for cheerleader. But after all of this confusion, it seems somehow that all works out. Even though the actors made the play a great success it wouldn't have been possible without the help of the stage crew. Although this play was not publi- cized by flashing billboards and bright lights the audience was of great number. The students that contributed to the great production of this play were: Ed Webb, Dan Sky; Nancy Creviston, Ellen Sky; Jan Reedy, Sunny Sky; Kathy Allen, Connie Sky; Steve Wall, Bill Sky; Debbie Howard, Grandma; Bob Brooks, Ace Dawson; Kim Pierce, Slyvia Simpson; Robert Riley, Bob Turf; Roger Hutton, Sam Anderson; Gary Smith, Mr. Green; Irene Clough, Marsha Munson; Cindy Nicol, Minnie Crocker. The directors were always attentive-- even after a long play practice. 16 Sam Anderson makes a running leap to shock the audience. Ace Dawson exhibits his idea for a good cheerleader. Although you rang it when you were supposed to, you also rang it when you were not supposed to. 17 There was a month of practices before class play. Who Killed The Endicott family--the kind of family who lives next door. But you have the frightening knowledge that one of those congenial people has commited a murder--a cold, calculat- ing murder! Of course. Aunt Caroline deserved to die—no doubt of that—she was mean, domineering, and rich. But who in the family could have killed her? Surely not Riccy who's a swell young fellow; not Beryl, whom you'd be proud to call your sister; not little Cicely who roller skates and likes sugar on her bread. Could it have been kind-hearted Mrs. Endicott herself, or lovely Agnes who dreamed of marrying Dave, a newspaper man? Surely not! Who, then? Dan Donovan, the high school football hero, or the chemistry teacher, Miss MacLain? None of these seemed like a murderer, but there's nobody else, nobody with the slightest motive for poisoning Aunt Caroline; nobody who--but wait; maybe there was! Miss Mabbitt, Aunt Caroline's paid companion—but no, why would she kill her benefactor, the goose who laid the golden egg, the employer who’d promised her a fortune? Fiendishly and cleverly you're kept guessing up to the very end. The smell of the grease paint the roar of the crowd. 18 Aunt Caroline? I’m dying, I’m dead. Cast Mrs. Eleanor Endicott. . The students on the staff worked with diligence this year to make the school paper a respected publica- tion that meets the needs of the students. JARGON OF WHAT? WE NEED A 2-LINE FILLER! The Panthers' football season opened at Arthur Sept. 17. They were victorious, coming home with a 14-0 victory. The first home game was played against Moweaqua. The Panthers expected a very close ball game, but came away with an easy 27-0 victory. The Panthers invaded Macon with revenge in their minds. They featured an impressive offense and a de- fense that was unscored upon in the first two games. Lovington enjoyed a tough 20-16 victory. After hearing of Bethany's fine defense, the Pan- thers proceeded to crush them, 34-0. The victory, along wtith the rainy weather, spoiled Bethany’s an- nual homecoming. A 19-game football unbeaten streak was snapped as the mighty Panthers overcame Illiopolis for a 14-8 homecoming victory. The victory vaulted Lovington into first place in the Meridian Conference standings. After defeating Illiopolis, the Panthers continued their victory streak by defeating Assumption 30-6. Lovington completely outplayed Maroa-Forsyth. The game was a 47-0 rout for the Panthers. The victory as- sured them of at least a tie for the conference championship. Niantic-Harristown invaded Lovington with one thing in mind: Conference Championship. A victory over the Panthers would give N-H a tie and that is what they went home with, 14-6 Lovington went to Cerro Gordo for the final game of the season. Cerro Gordo had won the last meeting bet- ween the two teams, but Lovington avenged that loss by a score of 30-0. 51 Varsity Lettermen Joe Wm. While the 1971 football team was winning game after game the cheerleaders were leading the fans and spectators in a rousing roar of yells. Before football season the cheerleaders solicited the town for donations from merchants and interested boosters so they could buy miniature footballs to throw at the ball games whenever a touchdown was made. Then with the beginning of basketball season Monical's, a pizza place in Sullivan, gave the cheerleaders 125 megaphones to throw during the ball games. Anyone who caught a megaphone could redeem it for a free half of a pizza. Something new which the cheerleaders added to the Homecoming activities was to hold an Apple Day, a Backwards Day, and a Purple-Gold Day. On each of these days die students did what the name of the day was. J.V. and Varsity Varsity—Top: Kim Pierce, Rae El- len Eadie, Carla Dawson, Debbie Howard, Jan Reedy. We look around and ask --where did it go? We worked, we played --but for four years? Then we look the other way --into tomorrow. Suddenly we're not so tall as we thought we were And not so smart. But we find that somehow We learned a decisive lesson at Lovington: something we wouldn't have had without the teachers and administration, without our fellow students --a direction into that uncertain tomorrow. It can never be so dark again Though the world may change and the times change and we change. Senior Class Will We, the members of the Senior Class of 1972 of the Lovington High School, being of good health and of sound disposing mind and memory, and believing in the certainty of our soon departure from the aforesaid school, do hereby make and declare this instrument of writing to be our last will and testament as seniors and students of dear old L.H.S. Mrs. Ann Fleming Andy Bolsen Photography . . . Mr. Lawrence Allen Andy Bolsen Photography . . . Mr. Lawrence Allen Conclusion The sun smiled on Lovington for another 18C days. We set out to remember the year and while thinking about it, move ahead. Somewhere in the rush of a swirling teen world of complexion problems and dances, we found time to make decisions and accept responsibili- ty. The scenes that took place set the stage for today and tomorrow. The past is but a prologue .... I Epilogue The 1972 Mirror staff has worked exceptionally hard this year to make the LHS MIRROR better than ever before. We tried to inject new ideas into this MIRROR so that it would best represent the 1971-72 school year. For the first time a Journalism class produced the yearbook with the help of a few interested stu- dents. Together we have tried to spend more time to make the book better. Working on a yearbook is not an easy task; few people realize how many hours are actually in- volved. Out staff had its good and bad days; days when we were confident this yearbook would be completed, and other days when there were no typewriters available, no pictures, and no end in sight to all the work. There are many people that a co-editor needs to thank, unfortunately there is never enough room to mention everyone. Without Mr. Allen and his camera this year- book would never have hit the presses. When we had a deadline to meet and were lacking pictures it was always Mr. Allen that helped us out. Mrs. Fleming's help was invaluable. She made us see daylight when we felt there was almost no hope left. The five section editors made sure all of the work was done on their respective sections. Each one did his or her part to finish this yearbook, but I would particularly like to thank Nan Frantz who was my right hand. Whenever there was last minute typing or proofreading, it was usually her who help- ed finish. The yearbook staff has enjoyed putting this year- book together and we hope that you think that it is a good mirror of the school year.
