BEST, SUPERINTENDENT With patience and determination, Mr, Best uses the sea of trivia that engulfs our daily existence to construct a bridge of opportunity that opens to us a plateau of ideals and knowledge. We are proud to have him as our friend, mentor, and superintendent. 19 LOVINGTON JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH With the changing of the seasons, buildings assume different person- alities and meanings to us. In this 1967 Mirror we have tried to show some of the life and the living that we have shared with others at LHS. How long ago was that first day of school? Was it yesterday? Looking back we are aware that mistakes have been made--little ones and big ones. We hope that others will remember the big and the good things that were done and that the mistakes will be only faint memories. Most of all, we realize the fun that we've had; minute by minute the rush from class to class; hour by hour, the lectures, notes, and discussions, day by day the studying and the tests; week by week the planning, month by month the hoping and the con- stant search for knowledge. Thinking it over, we realize that we would not change one minute of it, not a test, not a teacher, not a grade. We remem- ber that we have shared with others this school year of 1966-67. FFA The FFA year begins on May 1st and the activities are planned from that time. The President-- John Bailey and Re porter--Steve Mechling were the delegates to the State Convention at the Assembly Hall at Urbana on June 8, 9, and 10. The Livestock team participated in the state contest and received a blue ribbon, missing the top ten teams in the state by only a few points. The fall school term begins with a completion of the program of work for the year. This is an as- signment of committees and meeting programs for the twelve meetings, dates for other activities, and work schedules. The Parent and Son Banquet was held on February 21st with Dr. Karl Gardner of the University of Illinois as the main speaker. Two Honorary Chapter Farmers, Donald W. Bolsen and Byron Boddy, were elected and honored at the banquet. 98 FHA Future Homemakers face the challenge of their motto, with warm courage and high hopes . The well- rounded program of the organization includes three categories: educational, service, and social. The 1966-67 year was a very active year for the FHA. The money making project for the year was selling calendar towels and serving at banquets. In September the annual FHA - FFA hamburger fry was held. At the October meeting the new members were initiated into the club. The club also sent cookies to some of the local boys who are serving in Vietnam. In February, a Sweetheart Dance was held with Jean Ann Ozier, a club mem- ber, chosen queen. At the end of the 1966-67 school year a style show was held and all of the girls modeled garments they had made during the year. The Officers are: President, Sherry Howard: Vice-President, Ilene Reedy; Parliamentarian, Patty Watkins; Sec- retary, Colleen Reedy; Treasurer, Mary Etta Willoughby; Vice-President of Recreation. The Lovington Lettermen's Club was organized for the purpose of promoting educational and athletic activities and for the benefit of the club and its members. The activities of the club for the past year have includ - ed ad sales for the district tournament, Parent's Night during the football season, and our second spring carnival. We hope to make the last two events annual affairs. Each year the club purchases something for the benefit of one or more of our sports. This year our ambition has been toward helping to purchase a lighted foul-board for basket- ball. PEP CLUB Row 1: Cheerleaders, Suzanne Lane, Diane Elliott, Martha Bolsen, Pa tty Watkins. The Student Council is the representative body of the school. From it we learn the basic form of democracy. The members of Student Council are elected by their classes, and each member does his part in planning for LHS. This year the Student Council had the Harlem Stars basketball team here to raise mon- ey for a new basketball foul-board. Also Mr. Thomas Grimm came to our school and shared with us his experiences in world travel. 106 Mervin and Mr. Grimm ? FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA The Future Teachers of America is an organization with the purpose of showing interested students the different as- pects of the teaching field. The 1966-'67 year was very active for the FTA. The annual Moultrie County Career Night was held at Lovington, and the FTA organized this event. Also the district Latin tournament was held here, and the FTA served refreshments to the groups and guided them through the school.
