A DRQUGHT- RIDDEN southeastern . United States experiences the worst dry spell en'record in 1986. Farmers fIOm southern Pennsylvania to northern Florida are on the verge of ruin as their crops wilt at the peak of Ithe drought 1987 Lohian Loveland Hurst High School Loveland, Ohio I Clubs 52 I Advertisements 128 Certainly each of us remembers the childhood amazement of dash- ing precipitously along the ocean's edge through perfect expanses of sandy beaches only to turn around laughing as we watched the tide gobble up every mark of our existence. Yet, as we grew up, the run slowed to a walk and the wonder we had always seen at the disappearance of our lone footprints turned to a sense of confusion. No two people chose to face the challenge of the crashing waves in the same way. Some people learned to walk just far enough out of the tide's reach to escape its destruction. Others thought maybe if they left each footprint as deeply embedded in the sand as they possibly could it would remain unchanged forever. And the rest? Maybe they learned just not to care as they strode bravely through the water's edge just as they had always done. So now we find ourselves as near-adults, ready to stride once again across a smooth, unbroken, solitary beach. There is no path, no absolute right direction, and it seems at this point there is only instinct: our own. And so as we prepare ourselves and our lives, we look behind at the uncertain course of our past and ahead at the future, and as we step out, we make those footprints in the sand which will last an eternity. by Nicole Lllbrich 414.53. a 95 V I 6x r. v, . ft .5 455.. s REID . . zhtc 41.4 ulbi 3i; N ... u r. 91H oh 0.3.. Clubs 67 33.3th 3.2 E . . . An athlete knows that sports are much deeper than just a game . They serve as an outlet where he can discover he has more in him than he ever imagined. An athlete follows a cause and effect path. The cause is: he is dedicated. Then the effect is: he is proud. Dedication doesnlt always show up in record books or stat sheets. It is a personal thing. Only the individual knows if he's giving his all, and he must live with it if he isnt. If he gives everything he has, he can be proud. Pride also doesnlt lie in printed results. A last place finisher can be proud. Pride is also shunning glory for a cause; an inside block that opens up a touchdown, an unselfish pass that sets up a goal. encouraging a teammate in the lead to push himself. He must have pride in his team and what it represents. And what does the team represent? lt stands for a place where we have grown, made friends, and learned to call home in a span of four years. lh that'time the athlete has become part of the school, and the school has become part of the athlete's life. We honor all LHHS athletes in this sports section, but we - e especially honor the seniors, who, whether they continue to ' , .corhpete or not, will follow many different pursuits in years ' to come. Weihclpe as they look through this section, they will . remember everything about their isports' experience at Love- land'Hurst High School, but mast of all we hope they rememr her dedication and pride. , By Rob Harhptqn SportsHl ! The summer is drawing to a close and once again stu- dents find themselves in their first day of school with expectations of a great year. For some, the idea of enter- ing this large menacing building for their first time is intimidating. For others it is a mere routine, temporarily postponed during the summer months. The first day of school is a time for one to renew old friendships, to say hi to favorite teachers, and to realize that he is one step closer to graduation. It is not long, however, before the novelty and excitement has worn off and students must face the harsh reality of tests and homework. This is the start of yet another school year. This felling intensified as the King and Queen, Brad Cook and Faith Terry, took the floor for the royal dance. At midnight the carriage turned back into a pumpkin and the couples went their separate ways. Yet, somehow, the memory would last forever, even though the dream had come to an end. 115 1. The name of the musical is Carnival, and the cast members have worked nine weeks in preparation for this festive occasion. It is the story of a young girl who has come to the carnival in search of work but finds much more. Con- fused, she must decide for herself what love is in order to find happiness. Before long the curtain draws to a close and with it the spring musical, but the smell of greasepaint, the echo of laughter, and the faint melody of song will continue to linger for those with a love for theatre. 117 ... . Traces Of Spring To the faculty it is known as Easter vacation. The Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors know it as Spring Break. To the Seniors ifs known as PARTY TIME. The time has come to cut loose, forget about school, and, for some, head for the beach. The break is usually much needed by everyone but after a week of relaxation and festivity many tend to become lackadaisical and let things slide for the rest of the year. Loveland Hurst High School welcomed the Love- land Swingers , a group of talented Senior Citizens that performed for the student body, ate lunch in the cafeteria, and visited with the students.
