It has been a beginning of changes and an awareness of the people around us. It has been a time to learn. It has been a time to learn that the fear I once felt about entering high school was within me and once I got to know myself as a person I could accept it. It has been a time of feeling inse- cure and wondering if I'd fit in with the rest of the crowd. It has been a time to learn that I must keep my dreams and believe in them, for if I let them go, life, too could elude me and leave me with onIy yesterdaysi It has been a time of making new friends and sharing with them the feelings I had. The happiness of be- ing in the same class or the disap- pointment of being defeated at a football game. It was a time to be hopeful so that all of mankind could look at the love and peace which lies within one an- other instead of trying to tear each other apart. Over the past years, there have been times when I needed to be alone and just be a friend to myself. I listened to myself think and felt con- tent with my life because I realized that what I am is so much more im- portant than who I am. There have been times when I wondered what the true meaning of love was and oh, how hard I searched for the answer! As the years went by I realized the answer was there all the time and maybe I just wasn't mature enough to under- stand. Love was there when an up- perclassman picked up the book I dropped and was there when some- one smiIed at me as I walked down the hall. Now is the time I have reached the end of the tunnel ... graduation. As I look back I can feel the wisdom that I've gained from the many exper- iences of high school. As I look ahead I see a brand new beginning awaiting us. It will be a time to meet new challenges, a time to make new choices, a time to be free. It has participat- ed in musicals, such as Godspell , has visited Florence Mall in Kentucky, and has sung at a nursing home in Montgomery, Ohio. This year the Choir went to the Pogue's Arcade in Cincinnati to sing Christmas carols. The choir also attend- ed a regional contest in March and received a number two rating. Every year, the choir sings at the teachers' banquet and presents a Christmas and Spring Concert. This year brought the first Sweetheart's Concert presented by the Choir on Valentine's Day. ACTIVITIES 1041Activities The first big event of the year, Homecom- ing, fell on September 26, 1980. The Home- coming Game was preceeded by the parade, which went from the Loveland VFW to the high school. The procession included the band, drill team, cheerleaders, the float and, last but not least, the queen candidates. Each class had worked ferverishly for weeks to build the best float, checking peri- odically on the other classes' progregs. The floats were to be judged at halftime for the football game. The football game was against Indian Hi , and the mighty Tigers were defeated. The Junior Class was victorious though when the floats were judged, taking first place. The Sophomore float secured second place, and the Seniors took third. Then came the coronation of the queen. Patty Brogan, with escort Brant Barnes, broke into tears of joy when her name was announced as the 1980-81 Homecoming Queen. She was crowned by last year's queen Lisa Ashmore. The other queen can- didates were Robin Sanders, Dawn Ross, Jo- lene Driscoll, Kelly Constabie and Karen Schilling. ActivitieMmS King, Queen, and Court: R. Sanders, D. Ross, J. Driscoil, K. Constable, K. o Schilling, P. Brogan, T. Rishforth, B. Bauer, 5. JordahE, N. Nahrup, B. Barnes, G. Swierc. Saturday night brought the Homecoming Dance, sponsored by Student Council, which was held in the school cafeteria. After eating at the restaurant of their choice, coupIes came to the dance, to be entertained by a musical group called The Revolvers . What better way to celebrate election year than to have the dance decorated in patriotic decor, Red, white, and blue streamers hung from the ceiling while campaign slogans covered the voting booth. Instead of electing a President, a King was chosen. Last year's King, Chris Vin- son, crowned Ted Rishforth the 1980-81 Homecoming King from the slate of candi- dates including Brad Bauer, Scott Jordahl, Neal Nahrup, Brant Barnes and Gary Swierc. 106tActivities On October 8, Johnny Cash visited our school to do filming for a movie, The Pride of lessie Haliam . One of our classrooms was used in the film. The whole school anxiously awaited the arrival of the celebrity, and the teachers and staff had trouble keeping every- one out of the hallways. Mr. Cash arrived about 5:30 P.M. and took time to greet stu- dents and residents before filming. For the use of our school, Mrt Cash presented Love- land High with a $250 check. The movie aired in February and many people recognized our school scene. As election time neared, the school jumped into action with election year activities. Many senior students worked at the polls on Elec- tion Day handing out pamphlets and flyers. ' The school held its own Mock Election on October 30. Mira Bales, Nancy Knuckles and Traci Elderton are seen registering along with many others at lunch to vote. On the day of the election, voting was held at lunch in the special dining room. The results of our elec- tion turned out very much like those of the real election held several days later on No- vember 4. Republican Helen Fix, Democrat Donald Brooks and Randy Cesco of the Libertarian Party, candidates for the House of Represen- tatives, visited before elections to talk with Mr. Dickmann's senior government classes. The students had the chance to ask questions about government and the candidate's views on specific issues. This proved to be very in- teresting and quite informative. Our two exchange students, who became dear to us this year, were Lorena Maureira and Alex Garcia. Lorena was from Chillan, Chile. She was a Senior and stayed with the Eifert family for the school year. Alex was from Ma- drid, Spain. He stayed with Mrs. Cairns and was also a Seniort Lorena was very involved with the Spanish class and its activities while Alex delighted us with his creativity in the art field. ! i, ., - Ayah p Activitieshm The Loveland High School Drama Club pre- senfed its fall production, The Ten Little En- dians , on November 14. Troy Lynch starred in this Agatha Christie murder mystery. With the help of Mrs. Grossheim, the Drama Club Adviser, the play went well and attendance was good. The help of Carla Conti as make-up and curtain person and Kim Knuckles as cue person were also much appreciated The funfilled spirit of LHHS students was evident at the pep assemblies. Pranks were played on everyone as can be seen by the looks of Kim Hockman after an unplanned flour fight. Donna Constable, Kendra Niemi, and Mr. Muething enjoyed watching two boys eat a licorice strip. The joke was on the boys who thought the other end was being eaten by a cheerleader. Pep ral- lies were never known to be quiet nor was Renee Whitaker who always man- aged to get he crowd going. LHHS was honored with a visit by the luvies . These beauties were actually two of our teachers who'd do anything for a laugh. The Seniors never seemed to lack spirit and at the halloween pep rally the senior team of Kelly Constable and Jen- ny Cobb won the best school costume award. Chosen best class costume award was Lisa Donaldson for the class of '82, Donny Blaine for the class of '83, and Patty Hughes for the class of '84. Other costumes were Mickey and Minny Mouse, a farmer, Pooh Bear, a cowboy, a scare crowd, a purple peo- ple eater, and our own mad scientist, Mr. Wagner. m. 9' ' e m .z Ink. $0.. - Activitiesf 109 110fActivities December came and the Christmas spirit was in the air. Christmas is the time of receiving and giving, and Santa was on his way. He even left Mr. Wag- ner and Mr. Schmidt something in their stockings. The Spanish classes celebrat- ed the Christmas spirit by having their own Spanish piftata parties. Michelle Meeker is puting the finishing touches on her Santa pihata and then Diane Perry takes a swing, trying to break it open in order to get to the Christmas surprises inside. The Choir and Band also brought Christmas joy to us and to others. The Choir sang downtown in the Cincinnati Pogue's Arcade for the enjoyment of weary shoppers. Both the Choir and the Band performed their annual Christmas concerts. This year's band of- ficers were Ted Rishforth, Scott Cassell, Elaine Gowetski, and Connie Berch- told, After the Christmas holidays, every- one had to buckle down for semester exams, but again the Spanish classes ad- ded some fun to their day by giving Spanish demonstration speeches. Torn Viox demonstrates how to ride a mo- torcycle, Other demonstrations by stu- dents were cooking, make-overs, and recreation activities. Other classes were also very busy. Walking down the haliways, one could smell the cooking in the Home Eco- nomics Rooms or the buzzing and drill- ing sounds of the Industrial Arts Rooms. After all the awards were received excitement grew as Mr. Dewitt got ready to crown Mr. and Miss Senior. This award is a special one. Mark Hale could often be seen in industrial arts and the Lemon aides, Torn Mercer, Bridget Wal- ton, and Karen Holden, were always sweet. The one thing that will be forever imprinted in any LHHS' students mind, including Christina Jones, however is the vision of the five foot tall gray lockers allegedly containing studying materials. The validity of this rumor is being questioned by members of the LHHS faculty ... On April 3rd and 4th the Stage Band and Drama Club presented WLHS-TV. The play took the audience through a day of television including talk shows, game shows, TV dramas and soap operas The day began with an early morning news report and ended with the cast singing the Star Spangled Banner to end the day. In one of the skits Susie Lochner portrayed Toni Toenails welcoming her guests, with a wide smile and open arms. One of her guests, Todd Williams, sang Your Song by Eiton John. At 7:30, we were served a dinner of salad, fruit, roast beef, stuffed baked potato, green beans, and mocha parfait for dessert. The musical entertainment, The Kids kept the dance floor jammed with couples dancing to favorites by Bruce Springstien and the Beaties. Pictures were taken in the lobby after dinner. At 10:15, the queen candidates Patty Brogan, Lynda Moldenhauer, Laura Penter, Tammy Reisinger, Robin Sanders, and Karen Schilling were escorted into the ballroom. The king candidates Brad Bauer, Jeff Hawk, Jeff Haynes, Randy Lothrop, Kyie Napier, and Gary Swierc foilowed. Then came the long awaited moment: the announcement of the king and queen. Camera flashes flooded the room as Kyle Napier and Laura Penter were crowned the 1980-1981 Prom King and Queen. After more dancing and fun, the couples left. Saturday morning brought Kings Island and the Prom activities continued with a fun-filled day at the Amusement Park. Activitiesr121 Baccalaureate Service was held on Sunday, May 31 in the LHHS auditorium. There was special music by the high school choir, and Dale Holzbauer, minister of the Branch Hill Church of Christ, gave both the invocation and benediction. The sermon was delivered by the Reverend Tom Stroeh of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. '1The Graduation took place in the gymnasium on a rainy Wednesday, June 3, 1981 at 8:15 PM, The graduating seniors proudly marched in to the strains of Pomp and Circumstance , and the invocation was given by Tom Stratman, Deacon from St. Columban's Catholic Church. After opening remarks by Mr. Dewitt, the commencement address was given by Nick Clooney, WKRC-TV 12 News Editor. Special recognition was then given to the foreign exchange students, Alex Garcia and Lorena MaureiraV The Valedictorian, Emily Albrecht, and Salutatorian, Bettie Stuart, were honored and received trophies for . their academic accomplishments. t After the members of the class received their diplomas from representatives of the Board of Education, Jenny Cobb, class - president, gave a few closing remarks and the New Graduates marched out. Many tears were shed at the realization that graduation is an end; an end to the cIosenesg of cherished friendships and high school activities. Yet it is a new beginning. New goals will be set, there will be new opportunities; it is a stepping over the threshold into the future, by Gina Mossman 1221Activities Activitiesl123 J... l 9 L - Iphwi' 1'1 :'.'
