Suzy: llNot me, I was ready to get right into the swing of things. Harry: llYou're such a scholar. I just wasn't ready for school after spending all that time doing nothing all summer long. Suzy: uDidn't you like'gelting back with all your friends? Harry: HYes, I guess the reunion of the gang was kind of nice? 103 iiDo you remember how fast time went? Pretty soon it was time to start working on our Homecoming floats 'il don t even want to talk about those dumb floats. Every year the same thing happens, Oh well, never mindiii ttOh, you're such a sore loser. Just because the Juniors won the float contest doesn't mean floats are dumb. I guess they did understand the Walt Disney theme a little better than we did. i'Oh, don't be silly! Wasnit the parade as beautiful as everi? Oh, I forgot, you never get to see the parade because of football. Sorry! iiBy the looks of these beautiful Homecoming Queen candidates and cheerieaders I wish I had been there. The band played beautifully also. iiDon t change the subject. Look, there's Lisa and Nancy and Tracy and Kay and thereis another Lisa. Aren' t they beautifuli! iiBut look at Rich Schock and Bill Marsh, aren t they handsome In their uniforms! iwish all the guy candidates had been there. Why? Who were they? uRandy Kenser, Todd Lannom, Chris Vinson, Bryan Williams. Tommy Lang, and Richard Schock. iii know you're trying to make me jealous, but We not going to work! 105 106 Oh, I i'emember the game. it was great! Mud up to our ankles. ttAsk the girls if they liked the mud. Thatts all I heard for a week: 'The hem 01 my dress got so muddy! ttDumb girls! Why don,t you tell me about this since I obviously missed it all. 'At half time the winners of the floats were announced. t'l dontt want to talk about that. Hey, thereis a picture of Joan Williams sitting on the sideline. She's the Sweetest girl in the Senior Class. What are they all doing there? NJoan was a candidate, too but we didn t get any pictures of her in the parade. They had to sit there until haIf-time when, after an excellent show by the band, they lined up to march across the field to find out who was to become the 1979 Homecoming Queen! ttWho are those people? Didntt they graduate last year! ttYeah, that's Andy Grethel and Jenny Holt, last year's King and Queen. nAnd here comes Lisa Ashmore and her brother, Jeff. She sure is good-looking. What happened when they crowned her? I was practically blinded by the camera flashes. The crowd went wild and, of course, she cried. ttOhhh, I wish the game had been as nice. We tied Mariemont 6-6. uRemember the dance? It was the really first big event we went to together. It was so beautiful. lth, donit get mushy e It was kind of fun. uRemember the beautiful decorations? Those Mickey Mouse cut-outs and balloons were so neat. l. Do you still have the Mickey Mouse with our name on it?ll Of course, Honey! Hey, who are those two boogiers? There's Ken Riddiough. I never could get you to dance, you party-pooper! ttThere you go again always bothering me. Look at those lovebirds. Do you remember when we used to be like that? . t'Thatls Dave Litteral and Tracy Elderton. Here are some pictures of the candidates out in the hall before the crowning of the King. ttKay's always so happy, she makes everyone around her happy too. liYeah, but check out Todd Lannom. How, he's good lookini! iiLet's quit this petty bickering. Now, look at the newly crowned King and Queen Chris Vinson and Lisa Ashmore. I'd give anything to have her squeezing my arm like that! ttOh, be quiet! Is that all you think about? lim really surprised we had as good a time as we did, with us fighting all the time now. 107 108 uMan, I'm glad to have some different pictures so we can change the subject. Girls! I just don't know. uBe quiet. These are pictures from one of the most exciting and busiest parts of the year. uYeah, there are Halloween pictures. Look at all those crazy seniorst Tom Snyder rolls me! And check out the cooks! Who are those people under those masks? Thatts Regina Cook and Troy Lynch Look at Mr. Knaebel, the student teach- er. what a hunk!! 'tMiss Rogge is quite a fox herself! Here are pictures of the drama pro duction Pigman. I remember how much fun we had, do you! There you go getting mushy again. He- member the Who concert? What a tragedy. It was terrible. A bunch of my friends were there. ttl remember you calling and being real- Iy worried about them. nFtemember how involved we got with the election? 'tYeah. in between basketball games and sock hops. I wish the citizens had voted the same way on the levy as we did here in our mock election. ttYeah, it sure would have saved a lot of trouble. There's a picture of the girl from the TV station that came after we lost the elec- tion. It was so sad. It was about this time that our Iranian Embassy was taken over, wasn't it? Yeah. it was on November 4. You're such a scholar. What else hap- pened? It wasntt long after that Russia began its invasion of Afghanistan. utt was a pretty exciting year. 109 110 Remember how excited everyone gets around Christmas time? It's wonderful. There are Mr. Lynn and some members of his class putting Christmas lights on that dog skeleton.n v That was great. Remember the kiss the pig contest at a pep assembly? All I rememberiabout pep assemblies was Jenny Cobb running around acting crazy in her Tiger costume. ' Yeah. I remember now. Whatever class thought that project up was clever. I remember the Sweethearts Dance very well. You had to go through for the first time what guys have to every time. You had to ask me. I was so embarrassed. I guess guys do have it pretty rough. I really had a great time. I guess it was one of those few times we didntt fight, huh? I think it was the spirit of the occasion. They picked a guy and girl from each class to run for Sweetheart, didn't they? Yeah. the girls were Lisa Ashmore, Laura Penter, Tanya Humm, and Leanne Carovillano. Oh yeah. and the guys were Bryan Williams. Brad Bauer, John Hazlett and Bill Gordon. It's so cute whenever they crown the King and Queen. Werentt Bill and Laura cute. I hate it when you get mushy. That was the week in which all of the Seniors were acting stranger than nor- mal, wasntt it? Yes, it was. Each day had a special name, such as Dress Up Day', iSatur- day Night Live Day', itBackwards Day', or tFreshman Dayi. ltThe main event came on the Friday of that week when certain seniors were awarded with some serious and some not-so-serious awards. What were the awards? Well, here is a picture of Randy Kenser and Lisa Ashmore; they were voted to be best-Iooking. I'll say he's good looking! Enough of that! Remember when the hall showcase was filled with pictures of the seniors when they were little? And speaking of seniors, remember how Jeff Wade used the school's computer to aide in the distribution of our senior shirts? Oh, look! Here come Lisa Bales and Gary Polissini, our class sweethearts. We could have been sweethearts if you didn't bother me all of the time. Let's change the subject. Here's a list of all of the people who received awards that wee. Here's a picture of Tom Tran giving Mr. Raines his present from the class. Tom also donated a flag to the school, which he received from a Congressman for being mayor of Operation Youth. Heis great. Thatts why we elected him president of our class for so many years! Here are pictures of the main event. Yes, the crowning of Mr. and Miss Sen- Ior. It was great! Remember the huge smooch Tom Tran gave Tracy? The crowd went wild. You've no decency. It was a very touching moment, and I thoroughly en- joyed it. What are all these little lists all over the page? Do you remember the survey the sen- . iors took? These are the results. I can't believe Led Zeppelin beat out Uncle Bob! You think of such trivial matters. Isn't it neat that fathers came in first as he- r0es!? I don't know about you. Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: I always feel sad whenever I start thinking about all of the people who went off to vocational schools. It seems like they left the country. You get so sentimental. Theytre only a few minutes away. We donlt see them as much as we used to but they're still a part of the school. tlYeah, I know. Kathy Hill is going to nationals in the tall as part of her horsemanship program at Diamond Oaks. They do really neat things at vocational schools. See, therels Carol Cole working on someone's hair in the cosmetology department. uAnd there's Monica Knuckles typing. That looks interesting. Connie Berchtold is working in the child care department. They aren't always working though. They have to study just as we do: There's Laurie Marshall with a baby at lunch. Isn't she cute! HSpeaking of lunch, they have people learning restaurant trades like Milton Woods is doing here. llThat's neat, they almost run their own school. Even though they look like they're having fun and all, I still can't help but miss them. uMushy. Mushy. Mushy! 115 There is always something ex- citing happening at school. You're right. It seems that there is always someone new to meet or some honoured person to congratulate. hTake, for example, our foreign exchange student, Phillipe Lam- bert. He graduated last year from a school in Belgium. I know him; he is in my math and physics classes. He sure is smart. You could be smart. too, if you would only apply yourself. The Girls' State winners, Jenny Cobb, Suzanne Beresford. Julie Harper and Kim Hockman cer- tainly applied themselves. As did the Boys' State and Op- eration Youih people; Scott Cas- sell. Ted Rishforth, Kevin Crow, Jeff Hawk, Bette Stewart, Karen Schilling 'and Scott Jordahl. The band members applied themselves for the Lawn Con- cert, too. Wasn't it nice? Yes, it was. I always have loved thatstype of outdoor activities. Here are some pictures taken at the Nationai Honour Society tapping. What an honour it is to be chosen. N.H.S. members have certainly put forth a lot of effort and sacri- ficed a great deal of time in order to receive such a distinction. Look at the picture of Karen Schilling. She's such a sweet- heart. And here's a shot of Karen Gir- bert lighting the candle symbolis- ing Leadership. There are always so many things happening at school . . . It makes me sad to leave. 117 nSpring break was my favourite time oi the year. School was nearing its end and we all took a wonderful vacation from our work. tilt makes me mad that you and your friends got to go to Florida, and l didn' t. And you had the nerve to come back with a beautiful tan! You seemed to get over it, though. iiA lot of things happened after our spring break. iiLike the aborted mission to rescue the hostages in Tehran in which eight Americans diedf' iiRussia still occupied Afghanistan and the London Embassy was taken over by Iranian terrorists, but the British quickly ended that crisie when they stormed the embassy building. Many things happened that spring. There's Amber Browning. She took and developed many of the pictures we've been looking at, and Ginger Krummen, Linda Massie and Regenia Bray spent many of their lunch hours selling yearbooks. itLook at those beauties, They did much of the typing tor the Lohian; that was quite a task, and I'm sure that good ol' Mrs. Foster appreciated their help. Spring is a nice time of year. but the way you guys behaved you must have thought it was June. We still had work to do after Spring Break, you know. The people involved with the spring musical iRock-N-Roll' knew that their work was not over. They worked many long, hard hours to make their nostalgic depiction of the past the success that it was. It was really neatfi Harry: The end-of-the-year awards certainly are exciting, aren't they? Suzyz I didn't know that there were so many honourable people in our school. Over sixty awards were given out. Harry: The senior class alone had more than $50,000 in scholarships awarded to its members. That was quite an accomplish- ment. Suzy: The best part of the awards program are the various gifts and awards given by local groups and other sources. For example, the $1,000 Ohio Academic Scholarship was awarded to Sue Schneider, and Bryan Williams and Beth Riddiough received the award given by the American Legion in recognition of their leadership and character. Harry: Each year the Loveland Junior Womenis Club awards a scholar- ship and this year's lucky recipient of $500 was Jeff Enyart. He was also awarded the $100 Salisbury Memorial Award, which is given each year to the graduating senior who possesses the potential for carrying into his life and work the love, enthusiasm, and dedication exemplified by the Salisburys. Earlier in the year Jeff was given the John Phillip Sousa Band Award, our band's highest honour. There he is, pictured with the four year band members. They have certainly added much to our years here. Suzy:liThe . Loveland Junior Women's Club's Eileen Diller Merit Awards were also presented to a graduating boy and girl who have shown outstanding service, character, leadership and citizenship. The award, along with $100 for each recipient, was given to Beth Riddiough and Chris Vinson. And Bryan Williams was recognised for his trip to Columbus for the meeting with Governor Rhodes of high school newspaper ' editors. Harry: Finally, in memory of Mr. William Koehl, a teacher and administrator at LHHS for many years, Lisa Ashomore's name was added to the plaque bearing the names of seniors who have made outstanding service contributions during their years here. Lisa is such a sweetie. These people deserve to be recognized, for without all of their efforts our school would not be the great place that it is. Suzy:itFor once you sound like you know what you're talking about. And don't forget that stu- dents aren't the only ones who get awards. Mrs. Bishop got a grant for the reading lab and I understand she has one for next year. too. 121 Things really started hoppint after spring break, didn't they? ttYeah; the craziness slackened for just a moment and then came back even stronger than before. Everyone seemed to want to go outside for lunch and get rowdy, just like David Whitley, Denise Dozier and Connie Johnson are doing in that picture. Look at all of those hunks playing ball outside. I wish they would have asked me to play. ttWhat? They know better than to mess with my wom- an! I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. Oh, you know I love the computer room. The TRS-BO system has almost unlimited capabilities. Lots of students use the computers; herets a picture of Jeff Wade. uSpeaking of lots of people, sometimes in the spring it's almost impossible to walk through the Guidance Office because of all of the people registering for the next year's classes. ttlt must have been a quiet day, though, when this picture of Mrs. Colclasure and Regina Cook playing backgammon was taken. It wasn't very quiet in the lunch room when the stu- dent art show was held there. I can tell you that. I didnlt know that our school had so many talented people in it. There's Bob Fluzinski! And Missy Carson giving a speech, Gary Boone and Rob Zinnecker developing some pictures and John Hazelett finishing a project. It looks like everyone was busy finishing up the year. I was glad to do that, but I hated ending so many of my friendships. There are so many people you see during the school year that you don't over the summer. ttLeave it to you to come up with a way to spoil a perfectly nice day. 123 Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: ttThis yearts prom was so beautiful. I had a wonderful time. ttl have to give the Juniors credit; they put on an excellent prom. Everyone had so much fun! ttYeah! We ate, we danced, and then we ate some more. And then Russ pulled 21 Jimmy Page on us. ttl dontt know about that boy, sometimes. uThe band was great. uAnd we even went an entire night without fighting. ttWhichareminds me; we haven't had a fight in a long time. ttMy favourite part at prom was the crowning of the King and Queen. ttThe candidates were Lisa Bales, Joan Williams, Robin Cook, Lisa Ashmore, Kay Neimi and Nancy Earl. 'tYou mean the girl candidates. The guys were Chris Vinson, Torn Tran. Randy Kenser. Bryan Williams, Gary POlissini, and Todd Lannom. 'Each of the candidates chose a Junior escort to walk with them to the gazebo where the names of the King and Queen were announced. V ' t'And crowned by the King and Queen of last yeafs prom, Danny Loveland and Jill Holt. tlThe crowd went wild when Randy and Joan were crowned. ttThey were so beautiful as they danced alone to the prom's theme song, tWe've Got Tonight' by Bob Seger. After the camera flashes were over. the candidates and their escorts joined them on the dance floor. It was quite a sight, and it didnlt seem like long after that that it was all over. It all seemed so short. You're being so sentimental. What happened? Did I rub off on you? Junior Attendants: K. Schilling, A. Sievers, R. Sanders, S. Jordahl, J. Homberg, J, Hawk, K. Constable, B. Gordon, J. Harper, T, Siekman. L. Penter, M. Sutton. Harry: Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry:' Suzy: Harry: Suzy: Harry: tiThe end of the year. I thought it would never come! ttWhat a relief! No more scholastic worries for at least two whole months. I'Graduation is such a confusing time, with relatives from what seem to be all corners of the globe coming to witness the ceremonies. ttlt's a happy time for those who have made the most of their years here and know exactly what they will be doing after graduation, whether they will be going directly into a job or continuing their education. But it certainly is sad for those who look back and realise that they have wasted so many opportunities by not putting forth any effort as far as school was concerned. And those unfortunate people who do not yet know what they will be doing next year. I hope that everything works out for them. ttLet's look at these pictures and change the subject before we both start crying. Yes, let's. Wait a minute; I never cry! Here's a picture of the graduation attendants. Don't they look so happy? I wish you could look like that. uI already do. You girls think that you're so smart; how come Terry Jacobs is this year's valedictori- an? Salutatorian: Schneider ltEveryone looked so somber at gradua ation. I was afraid that I would never see my friends again. Harry. do you think graduation is a beginning, or an end? ultls the beginning of a graduate's new life out in the world, but it is an end to many of the friendships made here at Lo- veland. the wontt let our friendship end, will we? I hope not, but one thing is certain; our memories of all the times we have spent at LHHS will never leave us? Probably because he got one point higher than Sue Schneider on a quiz. It was a very close race. There's Chris with another pretty girl. t Phyliss looks so pretty. I thought the flowers at graduation were nice. They even came with ribbons.
