There exists a new birth, a new beginning as the scrawny eaglet peers from the jagged crack in his shell; and already he has begun to change . . . Similarily we were given a new birth, a new beginning, as we entered high school; terrified of being scrawny, hidden so as to remain unseen. But as the downy eaglet, we too had begun to change. The eaglet emerges from its shell, curiously observing the changing world around him, yet slow to recognize a transformation occuring within himself. For by now, brown plumage has replaced his wooly down, his talons flex and clasp, flex and clasp; the eagle stands erect . . . Over the past years, we also have emerged, to discover the changing world, to be aware . However, as the eaglet, we were the last to understand our own transformation. It was a subtle and gradual change, as confidence strengthened our voices, poise heightened our stature , and wisdom was gained through our experiences; it was a change which could not be reflected in any mirror, nor transcribed on any parchment. The eaglet has emerged an eagle; we have emerged as adults. As the eagle ages, his nest is repadded With fresh grass and twigs to accommodate his needs; strengthened, for he is stronger, enlarged, for his expanse is broader, improved, for the following years . For the same reasons, Loveland Hurst High School has been under construction, expansion and change in order to better accommodate its students. An extensive library, child development department and guidance office have been added. An auditorium has been added and the kitchen enlarged so as to provide more space for the school's growing number of students. With these changes, come myriad possibilities. The eagle flaps his Wings and struts in the nest, ready to fly. He rises with a stretch, extending each perfect wing in turn . . . then with breathtaking suddenness he is airborne, soaring tirelessly above the tall trees, independent and free . Finally, we are seniors, preparing to leave our own nests, to fly as the eagle flies, independent and free. As graduation arrives, we look back upon our change and we understand . . . Life is new beginnings, growing and maturing, but more importantly life is change, for without change, there is no growing; Without growing, there is no living; without living, there is no life. by Cheryl Grischy - f w;
