LOHIAN LOVELAND HURST HIGH SCHOOL LOVELAND, OHIO 1975 High school has taught me not to withdraw into myself when people reach out, But to reach them halfway because they, too, are not quite sure of themselves. These past four years have helped me to learn how to show emotion, how to feel openly. l Now comes the realization ? .tk that I won't be back next year. Iwon't have to make an 8. 00 bell or participate in a competition cheer. .? No more a la carte line and May Ihave your attentio for the x.,::. morning announcements? I'll mi$ all these things: the fun, the good times, the rai I'll even miss the teachers; the ones I've talked with, joked with, and even been a little hit new friends thisye But, I'm always going to need the memories, the old friends. And somehow, they'll always be there; the people who now make up my world. If only in my mind they'll afways be beside me, guiding me, giving me advice, loving me, and letting me love the m. Maybe that's what it's ail been for . . . FACULTY Su perintendent of Schools Assistant Superintendent of Schools Mr. Barclay M. A new group of smiling faces and the enthusiasm of a new yearts plan fitl the once silent haliways and empty classrooms. The re- union lasts only a few minutes before 153 of the 1002-strong student body must depart for the Joint Vocational Schools. At 8:05 the bells rings and the school year has officially begun, Many hours of our days are spent learning, studying, or waiting for thesweet sound of the lunch bell when we have a little time to spend with friends, Many Friday afternoons are spent in pep assemblies, encouraging the teams to victory. The first major social event of the year was Homecoming which lasted a week, The after- math of this hetic week was a total state of exhaustion for the entire student body and their advisors. .1ng .. $5 urn; .. .53.: . . Through the week all the students were busily fldffing flowers and hammering nails in preparation for the float competition on The Loveland Tigers played host to the Milford Eagles in a tough match which saw the Tigers upset 6-3. At haIf-time, the Junior Class captured first prize in the float competition thereby ending the reign of the Class of 1975 which had won the first place for the past three years. Half time activities also included the crowning of the Home- On Saturday, October 19, the Homecoming Dance was held concluding the Homecoming festivities. Tim Dooley was crowned as the 1974-75 Homecoming King, The dance was sponsored by the Student Council The Drama Club pro- duction of The Mouse That Roared was pre- sented on November 15' and 16. The comedy centered around Grand Fenwick, a tiny country in Europe, which goes to war with the U.S, and wins, This play was directed by Mrs. Kath- leen Grossheim. The student director was Bryan Adrick. erg 4: t L E mu '7. I C r xq . Loveland Hurst High School had a large number of its students enrolled in vocationalI school this year. Live Oaks had 123, and there were 23 at Scarlet Oaks, This year's Senior Class will be the first one to have gone through the full two years of vocational education at the new cam pUSGS. The Seniors had a lot of fun and increased their treasury When they sponsored the 2nd annual Mr, and Miss Spirit Contest. The person with the most money ta penny'a votel at the end of the week would be Mr. and Miss Spirit. The winners were Bill Vezey and Alison Wittwer. The Sen- iors sponsored many dances throughout the year after the games in the cafeteria. Student Coun- cil gave the students an added treat when they put on a concertffeaturing the rock group Columbus , which had been on tour throughout the US. The arrival of December 13th brought two new faces to our school-Ileana and Alex- andro, a pair of Amigos from Honduras and Nicaraqua respectively. We all missed them as they boarded their plane on February 22. The Christmas spirit arrived early and decora- tions and music filled the hallways. It was once again time for exams and the only thing we had to look forward to was Christmas vacation, After a long, well-deserued Christmas break, it was back to school, relearning locker combina- tions, and envying the tans of thelFlorida-goers. Our It's Academic! team made up of Jan Forste, Stu Helmintoller, Bryan iAdrick and Mike Schmees, was busy dgring the holidays winning its first match on December 5 over Franklin and Regina pulling a come-frorn-behind victory in the last round. Scores- Loveland 310, Franklin 300, Regina 140, This qualified the team for the second round against McAuley and Walnut Hills, Again Loveland was the Underdog but stayed right in the contest until McAuley answered all ten questions correctly, which put them too far ahead, Some ofithe more energetic of the women fac- ulty members tried their best to defeat the girls' basketball team but to no avail, The superior defense and aggressive offense of lhe girls thwarted any hopes of victory by the faculty. The girls won by a mere 20 points and the ex- hausted teachers slowly walked off the floor. Senior Week was celebrated from February 10 to February 14, and was a very exciting time for Seniors as well as for underclassmen. They V . left for New York on February 3, toured New York City, toured Bell Labs, and, of course, ate at the most expensive restaurant they could find at the airport, It was a very interesting experience for both of them, All throughout February, Cupid was busy getting matches for the Sweethearts' Ball. Cupid did his job and the Junior Class sponsored the dance on February 22. The theme was Love Is . . . and the band 2 , . was, Good Mother Sunday. Sophomore 1 Amy Matre was Queen and Junior Rob i Allen was King, On February 25, Diane Books, editor of the LHHS TIGER'S TONGUE, accompanied 40 other high school editors on a trip to Columbus, The trip was sponsored by WC PO-TV and was led by AI Schottelkotte. They met Governor Rhodes in the Press Room of the Capitol building, sat in on a session in the Senate, and met Lt. Gover- nor Celeste, In May Mr. Koehl died. Our fiag flew at half mast for two days in memory of his kindness and contributions to many classes of Loveland students. Then comes the time of year that all Seniors seem to want to avoid-Exams and Senior Projects! Much time, work and energy is spent on these pro- jects but there always seems to be time for a little fun! There is always much to do in pre- paring for school next year, Student Council elections, Class Officer elections and Cheerleading Tryouts are im- portant in preparing for the following year. Spring is a busy time lawn concerts, banquets, and thoughts. On a windy, cold April 5 the LOHIAN sponsored the first annual Powder Puff Football Game. The opponents were the girls of the Senior Class and the girls of the Junior Class. Coordinated and directed by Bryan Adrick, the game was quite successful. The game was completed with no fatalities and only two injuries: a broken nOSe suffered by Bev Seigla and broken finger sustained by Debbie Billard. When the duel was over, the Seniors were on top with a score of 8d6. Fine performances were made by Cathy Carson, Lynn Thompson, and Holly Baxter for the Juniors. They were coached by Jeff Carnine and Bill Crooks. The Seniors were coached by Scott Benhase, and the stand-outs on this team were Toni Cobb, Nancy Kenny, and Diana Wilson. Entertainment at half-time was provided by the Kazoo Marching Band. The spring musical production of Youire a Good Man, Charlie Brown proved to one of the greatest challenges to the Drama Club. However, the cast's lack of knowledge in music was overcome by seemingly endless hours of rehearsal. As expected, dress rehearsal was a flop, but the production evolved into a beautiful success on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. The cast was: Bob Dunkle, Charlie Brown; Bryan Adrick, SnOOpy; Dave Cook; Linus; Kitty Kieffer, Lucy; Bill Vezey, Shroeder; Charlotte Chisman, Patty. .: n,4..:,..,,.y,w This year the National Honor Society Spring Tapping was held on April 22, At the end of the ceremony, twenty-thre'e new members had been induct- 4 ed into the group. State Representative Helen Fix addressed the 206 graduating seniors and the seemingly thousands of parents, relatives and friends. Jan Forste was this year's valedlclorian and Karen Kaupp Dalton was the salutatorian. A: we took these final steps and reached for our diplomas, we were awed by all the memories of our high school years that overcame our final nervousness and flooded our minds. . We quickly recalled being a freshman, gym class, dances, the Mad Hatter, games, locker combinations, skip day, winning floats, plays, senior week, pep assemblies, dissecting worms and fetal pigs, parallel parking, crushes and romances, reciting HAMLET, and everything high school stands for. Then came the recessional. The wallc seemed so long and tears came to our eyes as we realized that these days were the Good Old Days of our tomorrow. We discovered that we have a special love for one another which stems from the days when we all grew up together as children, before we learned to notice faults and to judge people. With tears, hugs, and handshakes it is all over. These days have ended all too quickly and now it is time for us to establish our positions in the world. It is sad to think it is all over, but we must look ahead to our new respon- sibilities and nod our heads in acceptance of our departure. Someday, in retrospect, we will look upon these days with a fond remembrance. We can never relive these times, nor can we duplicate them, for these days have instilled in us a new maturity. And so, we leave after finishing our beginning class in Life. Good bye, Loveland High. by A Ilson Wittwer Jan Forste Karen Kaupp Dalton S B U L c Drama Club ROW 1: G. Smith, T. Mason, P. Bishop, C. Although this team lacked overall varsity experience, they were very satisfying to coach. Only senior Co-captains Chris Mihalik and Dave Engel came ail the way up through our program from junior high. Our team played outstanding defense holding their opponents to 56.9 points per game 0th in CityL Defense and rebounding were the two main strengths that this team possessed. We lost to Class AA District Champion Reading by only three points, 53-56, in the tournament at Indian Hill. Our team played much tougher at home posting a 6-3 record on our court. Many underclassmen gained valuable experience and overall it was a good rebuilding year. 125 Leading Hitters Average Bob Fuson 473 Ed Williams 359 Pitching Won Lost ERA Ed Williams 7 6 1.44 Bob Fuson 4 1 1.85 All League Bob Fuson Ed Williams Tim Dooley ROW 1: Eddie Williams, C.
