Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1974 volume:

LOV ELAND HURST HIGH SCHOOL LOVELAND OHIO An eternity oftime passed me by without my even noticing it. I remember all the restless times I prayed to God to help me grow up. It took time, But I think he finally heard me. All those nights I stayed up to watch the sunrisejust so I could write a poem about the quietness ofthe morningstar . i . the way it came and went so calmly, so quickly that no one ever took notice of it. Ilm afraid to think of all the things that could have happened to me . . . the good things. Sometimes I think that there were too many changes for the good to stay long. There were some though . . . like the times I spent With those that I loved so much. People who I could be close to; I could understand and be understood. Friends I could share my meaning with, my waterfall, my rainbows and my love. Those times when I could be quietly alone and feel at peace with myself, when I could write a poem or a song. Four years of school hasnlt meant an academic record to me. Its been a period of realizing who I am and what I am. Yes, Iive learned many things in school, but they are not as important to me as learning to care and care deeply. People donlt seem to understand that I donlt have to be loud to be filled withjoy. Sometimesjoy is meant to be quiet. Growing up has been hard for me. I felt alone and yet a part of. I tried fitting in with the different groups and I tried all the way from one extreme to the other. I couldnlt find anyone that was in the middle, anyone who wanted tojust be himself and be real. I guess a lot ofpeople go through this feeling of not belonging to anything or anyone, but it hit me really hard when I realized it. Iguess because I care a little too much about people and how they feel, I trust too much. But thatls the way I am, I cant change it and I donlt think I want to Change it. I donIt want to go through my life not trusting anyone until I know them, so I trust everyone until 1 do. Now that my four years are almost over I feel really lost. lIm afraid of being lonely and ofnot being able to fulfill my dream. I need people so much that I wonder if 1311 make it after I leave those people that IIve known all my life. IIm not Close to my friends anymore, and it bothers me to think that live grown so far away from those that I was close to at one time. They seem to have drifted away into their own lives and lam still here I . , grown up but still wanting to hold onto those beautiful memories and times that IIve shared with them. Four years is a long time, but not long enough when you know there were so many things that you missed. Not saying the right words when they were needed . . . like III need you? , V : l v kli-lwti . jg w v Ilve been a fool many times but I think Ilve learned from those times. People donlt think Ilm going to make it because Ilm emotional, but I donlt think there is any other way to go through life. If I canlt experience things or feel emotions then I would rather not even try to make it. When it comes to the point of not caring then I wonder whatls left to live for. I love living, the ocean, and birds. To me they are freedom. A kind of freedom that I dream of achieving . . . an inner freedom. These last four years of my life have had a meaning to me that I donlt think I could find w a meaning that has made me, going on in my mind.- A meaning oflove and. that were all mad Many things that h willne but there W Copy by Carol Croxt'on y MelissaaMiller . 1- .1h. , n x . . .53!- C 7., :' 5 - 0'1 Q. .. It was exciting to spend time outside the classroom creating something of our very own. PROMISING 109 SALUTATORIAN VALEDICTORIAN DIANA UND ERCOFFER RANDY GREENWALD Listen to the cheers from the stadium as you walk dOWn the empty field. The quiet lets you remlive due games and races you've been to. Inside the school you find an idle basketball, an empty mat and wands from an old pom-pom. You can feel the tenseness as things begin to come alive. The stands are full, the floor is jumping with life, and you spin with excitement until the games are over and you walk away with the echoes of games past in your memory. They possessed tremendous character. They played outstanding defense holding their opponents to 52. 8 points per game Qnd in cityL They shot the ball very well and executed their offense and defense intelli- gently. As a team..-they were noththe 6'4, 6'5 muscle type, they weren't the quickest and they lacked jumping ability; but they had many strengths that made them the outstanding 1973-74 team h18- m that they were. Some of their strengths were as follows: great team play, shooting ability, shot selection, tremendous Jefense, poise, confidence, pride, attitude, and determination.
