LOVELAND-HURSTHIGHSCHOOL LOVELAND, OHIO 1971 N Vast visions of our life endlessly turning, endlessly changing. Day by day experiences enriching our lives sensing and perceiving the world around us. The happiness of friendships made golden like the ripe Wheat of fall. The solitude of thinking and discovering like the biting, harsh cold accompanied by small white flakes. Pain strikes us sharply as disillusionment of the world's righteousness rains about us. Gathering knowledge our ignorance melts away like the late winter snow. Discontentment soon washes down the stream leaving us content. Joy comes to us as the sun to the darkened earth. Gaiety and freedom bloom under clear sun- filled skies. Maturing thoughts grow nourished by therain and sun. This is our youth the conversion of our senses upon the great illusion destroying it gradually, preparing us for life. -Va1erie Newell 11 MR. Little Miami . EHL-Meet II . Princeton Invitational . EHL-Meet III . District With only two seniors on the squad, inexperience was a key factor during the cross country season. Senior Alan Dedden completed his fourth year as a varsity runner and did a fine job in captaining the squad. The leading runners on the team were juniors Rich Acomb and Carl Thompson. Thompson placed fifth in the EHL championships and seventh in the district meet. Acomb placed sixth in the district and missed going to the state meet by one second. Other outstanding juniors were Mike Dede, Ken Davis, Chuck Grimes and Chuck Houchen. The biggest surprise of the season proved to be sophomore Rick Albrecht. Rick did an outstanding job in his first year as a varsity runner. His eleventh place finish in the district as a sophomore makes him a bright prospect for the future. Another sophomore, Jon Finnegan, also had a. fine season. Jim Snyder and Chuck Dedden placedvhigh in the J. V. meet and should help the team as juniors next year. The highlight of the season was Loveland's third place finish in the district meet. The young inexperienced runners made a lot of improvement and finished the season on a successful note. 97 VARSITY BASKETBALL E ROW 1: S. Weaver, T. Lozier, S. McCoy, R. Engle, J. Partin, T. This year's Loveland High School Freshmen Basketball Team completed its season by defeating Milford's Freshmen 47- 44 in the tournament finals. They also won the League Championship and finished with a perfect 17-0 record. This, by the way is the first undefeated high school basketball team in the history of Loveland. The success of this team can be attributed to their defense which allowed over 40 points only twice, the team play and unselfishness of everyone during the games which saw four players average double figures and their great desire to win and pride in themselves at all times.
