LOHIAN l965 LOVELAND HIGH SCHOOL LOVELAND, OHIO We, the Seniors, we Icome the citizens of the community and the students of Loveland High School to glance through these pages of the 1965 LOHIAN. Our journey through high school has come to an end and we are ready to leave our years of security and adolescence behind. But there is a second journey challenging us, and we are forced to make a de- cision as to how we will accept this challenge of forming our lives and futures, This decision is deeply influenced and fostered by 011! school, the community, friends, teachers and parents. Whether we go to work, go on to college or join the armed forces, our decision will in some ways either directly or indirectly affect our community and its citizens. And so, we proudly dedicate the 1965 LOHIAN to the community of Loveland, the schools of the city and the 80th graduating class of Loveland High School. LITTLE-MIAMI VALLEY CONTENTS Introduction Administration and Faculty Classes Candid Shots Activities Sports Graduation Senior Directory Staff Pages Advertisements 18 53 58 78 96 99 104 106 THE RIVER REFLECTS The river has reflected the growth of Loveland from its beginning as a rich, fertile valley, through its development into a small railroad town to its emergence as a growing city. In the memory of the Little Miami River is a chronicle of our community. Colonel Thomas Paxton, an ancestor of one of our seniors, Glenna Nieman, is credited with making the first substantial contribution to the settlement of this area in 1796. More and more settlers were attracted to this area and were encouraged further with the con- struction of the Little Miami Railroad, now known as the Pennsylvania Railroad. By 1873 the Little Miami reflected a fairly notable establishment. It was in this year that the first public school was constructed. It suffered a fire fourteen years later but was rebuilt in 1888. Besides being used as an educational institution it was the only hall used by the people at that time for public meetings and entertain- ment. The river reflected a somewhat prosperous town by 1890's, and it was in need of a church. The first building was the Presbyterian Church. Railroad Avenue was the sight of the Methodist Church constructed seven years later. The first Catholic Church began in a small brick building. The seal which appears throughout this book conveys a bit of the history of our city. The river represents the Little Miami, the three divisions of land represent the three countries, and the bugle represents the idea of Lover land's first postmaster, James Loveland, announcing his arrival with the mail. The river continually moves on, reflecting the activities of Loveland and its people, and perhaps carrying with it a remembrance of events. In this sense then the river might serve as an example for us, who by avoiding stagnation may contribute to the living strength of our society. rw FACU LTY- ADMINISTRATION Men woxk together. We see the road that we've been on, The school we've traveled through. The friends and teachers we We come to know From mind will never sway We'll not forget the sacredness Of Loveland High School Days. And now that high school days are few, We see the road we tread; Though hard it seemed, but now it gleems, Our lives are yet ahead. Our hearts look back to times that are past, And long to see again, What memory stores in our heart's doors But never more shall win. No more to save the sacred joys, That loveland made to be, But be apart of our dear hearts, What Loveland made us see. David R. But the doings of on: high school years are special. They can be singled out as concluding our adolescence and pre- paring us for adulthood. These years that go so quickly give one-and-only experiences. The clubs we join will always be a part of us. The fun of dazzled proms and variety shows will be short-l'wed but not forgotten. Our many organizations and special events promote friendship and a sense of achievel ment. As we work to utilize our time well, good qualities of leadership and creative ability appear around us. The proper balance between work and play, which we have at Loveland, will make us better people. --Catol Bradley ACTIVITI ES STANDING: K. Moore, K. Adkins, A. Litton, E. Shott, R. Harris, J. Rude, N.
