BASKETBALL Loveland's success in basketball was a trifle better than in football. lt was evident from the very beginning of basketball prac- iice that the boys had not developed a shooting eye , which, of course, can be ex- plained by the tact that they did not have access to a gymnasium last year. ln most cases it takes at least three years to develop that eye tor the basket. Although the high school boys did not win many games there were nevertheless many bright spots. For instance, the defense in most cases was plenty good. In this mod- ern game ot basketball almost all games should be won when the opponents score less than thirty points. The varsity is losing tive ot the ten men, and with these tive men goes all the height. Unless the younger boys grow like weeds over the summer months, Loveland High will have to depend on a speedy team next year. The reserve team started slowly, losing the first tew games. But they soon found the will and determination to get out there and tight and win. When they lost, it was because they lacked height and the ability to shoot, although the latter shoot-coming was steadily improving. On this reserve team we had tive Sopho- mores and five Freshmen. FOOTBALL With the exception of two or three boys this year's football team had very little exper- ience, while most of the county schools had several of their stars back from last year. Contrary to popular opinion, the boys maintained their pep and spirit through- out the season. ln fact, as the season prog- ressed more and more young boys came out who really were interested in a future team. lt is hoped that this attitude will remain. None of the boys will be lost by graduation. So it no one drops out of school the squad should begin next year Where it left off last fall and that should, indeed, be very encouraging. Although no games were won this year, many of them were close, and all of them were lost because of two reasons: 1. Lack of experience and 2. Lack of reserve power. Both of these deficiencies should be pretty well taken care of for next year. ir if Paqe 24 There is on point that should be discuss- ed here. Usually, only enough boys turn out who think they can make the team. That, of course, is erroneous thinking. How does a person know before he comes out for a sport Whether or not he will like the sport or make the team? To have a winning team Loveland High boys must turn out thirty strong and must be in excellent physical condition, which means training throughout the whole year. To attain this goal, every boy and girl in school, all the parents and teachers must help. Everyone must do something about it.
