UWIGQS The rollrckrng fun lovmg class whrch strrs up more trouble rn school than any oth er two classes comblned IS we must admrt the lunlor Class lt 1S no fault of our home room teachers Mrs Harsha and Mr Steele they Just cant keep an eye on us forty mne puprls at one trme The school year opened wrth a bang up electron whereas the boys prtted therr oratorrcal and mfluentral powers agarnst the grrls A good brt of antagonrsm was rarsed before the electron However the offrcrals teachers got wmd of the happenmgs and quelled any further outbreaks ln the fall the class was outstandrng rn that rt had a complete football team of rts own members frve out of those srx were on the varsrty so that when any cheerrng was done rt was done mostly by lunrors and when any scormg was done rt was agarn mostly the lunrors The basketball floor also felt the patter of the shoes of luntors durrng the season The boys trred hard tn the frrst half but as the last two quarters came around our pornts Just wouldn t add up Thrs procedure became surprrsmgly consrstent the Jrntc couldnt be broken Smce the grrls were not permrtted to partrcrpate rn mterscholastrc competrtron those of the Iumor class drd as much work selhng candy as they probably would on the basketball floor Mrs Harsha took over the candy sales rn a frrendly competrtrve man ner wrth Mr Steele and hrs pop sellrng At the turn of sprrng the class became aware of the fact that only a few months stood between them and the date of the Semor Prom Somethrng had to be done Our class prestdent put forth the plan of hrrrng an orchestra for a brg dance lt was welcomed heartrly everyone was eager to do hrs part A dance commrttee was chosen to take care of advertrsrng and trcket sellrng The one great questron mark 1n our path of progress was the task of choosrng an orches tra not only choosmg one but gettrng one to perform on the date chosen Then when Aprrl lO came around everyone was worrred about the returns from the trckets Our whole years work hrnged upon the dance but the profrt surprrsed everyone the class was at ease our rnvest ments almost doubled The frrst few practrces of baseball brought forth the old hands from the lunror class even our enthusrastrc baseball player Mr Steele who loves to watch and ta4e part rn all sports Could that be why thrs class rs al ways on the move thrs year? SOPHOMORE CLASS Presrdent Earl Bomohr V1cePres1dent Alfred Potts Secretary Irene Prlce Treasurer Emmajean Wllson Let us look mto the past Nearly two years ago a group of eager but somewhat frlqhtened students began the very adven turous experrenc of attendlng h1gh school To many of these 1nd1x lduals enterlng hrgh school had been a dream that had long been looked forward to Upon enterlng the Fresh man year the rmtratron was the usual frrst b1g event Throughout the year many 1nter estlng happemngs o curred Our Freshman class was a very wrllmg group and nearly all of the student reached the goal of be commg Sophomores Thrs years Sophomore Class 1S found to be very ambrtrous and talented m var1ous phases A large number belong to the A Cappella Chorr and several were chosen to s1ng at the Musrc Festrval tn Oxford Many partrcrpated rn the dCl1V1l1SS of the band and orchestra and st1ll others are bound to be great athletes some day Iames Bradley Earl Archer Betty Threken B1ll Ramsey Marle Maw Dons K1ss1ck and Irene Prrce w1ll represent the Sophomore Class at Greenhrlls rn Apnl VVe were well represented thrs year on the Boys Basketball Team and many of the grrls took part rn rntramural games lack Benmngton and Betty Howard represent our class on the annual staff th1s year Mrs Gentry a favorrte teacher who has been here for several years has left us and we feel that we w1ll never have another teacher who w1ll qurte f1ll her place As a class the Sopho mcres presented her w1th a very attract1ve lamp whrch we hope she w1ll emoy As a class we feel that we owe the sponsors of the new bulldrng a vote of thanks and to the teachers for the grand way 1n whtch they carry on actrvrtres As w near the end of our adventure as Sophomores we know that we have gamed more knowledge and enloyment and are now look1ng forward to becommg lunlors ir ir Page 20 FRESHMAN CLASS Presrde, tt Martha Baron Vrce r- esrdent Russel Lohbeck Secretary PeQQY Doughman Treasurer Charles Verth The Freshman Class entered h1gh school rn September Wllh a total of e1ghty boys and glrls comrng from Branch H111 Marnevrlle and S1xteen M1le Stand as well as from Love land In the course of the year the number decreased to S1XlY seven but we st1ll have the largest class Freshmen 1mmed1ately showed thelr strong school sp1r1t by plung 1ng wholeheartedly 1nto the football season turmng out athletes who rn a few years w1ll be our mam source of prowess on the grld 1ron At the 1nv1tat1on party rn October the Sophomores welcomed the Frosh contrn gent Wllh a day of h1lar1ous pokrng fun and romprng m sackcloth and omon Jewelry An even1ng party at the school brought both classes together and the Freshmen were obllged to entertarn everyone by paymg penaltres exacted by a Sophomore Jury At thrs trme there was a dlsplay of talent whrch recurred later rn the class assembly program IH whrch vocal and mstrumental solorsts monologursts and comedrans took part ln the freld of muslc the Freshmen had repre sentatlves rn the band and the A Cappella cho1r Wllh Audrey Meter and Anna Mae Casey f1ll1ng two posrtrons 1n the g1rls trrple trro F1ve staff members of the Orange and Black kept Freshmen ln the news Audrey Meler Martha Baron Anna Lou Prrce Dolores l-hll and Margaret Strassel ACl1V1l19S of th1s sort however d1d not keep the class from wrnnlng scholast1c honors as well several of the students competrng rn the county tes s rn Apnl Audrey Meler Margaret Strassel Martha Baron Shlrley Gest Anna Lou Prlce and Cecll Bauer Now we look forward to takmg our places among the upper classmer gurdmg next years Freshmen along the paths we followed th1s year The class advrs ors are Mrs Carr, M1ss Pope, and M1ss Lewrs ..
