The council projects for the year included a kick off breakfast for Homecoming, the Homecoming dance, National assemblies, festive Christmas decorations in the halls, revision of the entire lndian hand book, and strong support for charity drives. The council netted S600 for the March of Dimes Drive. The members of the council took active part in both the Northern Conference and State Student Councils. ln the Conference Student Council the sportsmanship award was instigated for the first year. Each year the group presents several con- certs among which are the Christmas and spring concerts and the combined band and chorus concerts. The choir sang for both the local and the Big Thompson PTA groups. They also appeared at the Spring Festival and the baccalaureate service. ln April they participated in the State Musical Festival at Boulder and received many favorable ccmments for their fine quality of singing. Various projects, submitted to the club by local business and school personnel, not only aid the local merchants and faculty by cutting down time but also offer invaluable experience for the club members. Their most important projects this year included helping the Chamber of Commerce and backing the Christmas Seal Campaign. They also helped CROP by sending relief packages to Korea. As in years before, the club journeyed to Denver for a field trip. Other activities included the Christ- mas party and the dessert initiation at the Dude Corral. National FHA week included the installation of new officers, the initiation of new members, and the attendance at the district convention in Greeley. ln December the girls made miscellaneous items for the Children's Exceptional School of Loveland. March l, 2, 3, found six girls and their sponsors at- tending the State FHA convention in Fort Collins. April brought the annual field trip to Denver. On this trip the girls toured various centers of interest. The Northern District tea climaxed the l955-56 season. IRC The lnternational Relations Club is an extra-cur- ricular organization in LHS. Through discussion this group does much to further real world understanding. At the regular once a month meetings of IRC various members conduct discussions on such topics as: Statehood for Hawaii and Alaska, Mexico since the Revolution of l9lO, and St, Lawrence Seaway - Our' New Open Door Policy, They declared United Nations week at LHS during the week of April 9-l3. This proved to be quite an affair as each classroom had a map of some country in the United Nations on the door with additional inform- ation about the country in a pamphlet. ln connection The discussion on France and Her New Colon ial Policy seems to have been quite long as Eunice Classgow and Pat Herald look rather sleepy. However, Ronnie Cowgill and lanice Huckins are prepared to carry on the discussion. No activity can be completed without the able work cf Mr. Orville Trainer and Mr. Gorden Tegnell, IRC sponsors and social studies teachers. with UN week the club presented an excellent assembly for the student body. The setting was in the customs hcuse of the UN building in New Ycrk City where the representatives cf different countries dressed in their native costumes pre- sented their problems to the United Nations. The largest extra curricular organization at LHS with l86 members, successfully carried out many pro- jects. Members of the four classes represented took turns painting signs to be put in the halls and decorating the trophy case. Pep assemblies supporting all school athletics were held frequently during the year. The Pep Club banquet given in honor of all the boys who have participated in sports was the high light in February. Don Larson, senior, was crowned king as the senior girls scld the most tickets to the talent show. The purpose of the club which is to pro- mote skiing was carried through by the Ski Club assisting the City Recreation Commis- sion in giving skiing lesscns. A new rule was put into effect this year stating that each member must go skiing at least once by january 31, l956g once again by February 29, l956g and again by March 3l, l956 in a recognized ski area. Many of the games were heartbreak- ers as they were lost by small margins, Top scorer for the Indians was 6' 2 post man, lerry Salmans, who got 250 points for a game average of l4.7. Smotherman was the team champion in the free-throw department with a 69.l average for the season. Englewood and Casper, Wyoming, tied for first with ll points each. The Indians got third in both the mile and medley relays. The Aggie Invitational found the Indian heavyweights taking third place and the Iightweights taking second. Farnham knocked off a tenth of a second to establish a new record and take first in the ISO yard low hurdles. He broke the old record of 20.6 seconds and was edged by a hair of taking second in the high hurdles. Other Indians placing in the heavyweight were Bader, Colton, Vanatta and Stone.
