,..-.llxUq---Y-PIL-M f 4 ' BASKETBALL The Lovelady Lions ended the 1946-47 basketball season as Dis- trict champions thus making them eligible to participate in the Re- gional Meet in March. This was their second straight conference vic- tory and made their third ln four years. This year's Lions proved to be one of the best basketball teams Lovelady will ever have. Besides exhibiting a style of teamwork sel- dom seen on the court, lts individual players were unequaled. Heston Andrews proved to be the high point man scoring a total of 566 points. J. W. Allee was second with 219 points and Clifford Whitehead, third with 161 points. The team record was equally impressive with L134 points to its opponents 628. Its average per game was 45.5 to 25.1 for the opponents. Melvin Carpenter and Glen Mason made a defensive combination that was hard to beat. Coach Whatley will have three lettermen back for next season. They are Allee, Whitehead and Mason. Andrews and Carpenter who are graduating will D8 hard to replace even though there are some very promising youngsters in the reserves. Q! I - ,df .a si .
