fgfwrftbwzf l l l io' ll W ... l jaw, lg X u I I 1' ff A im ssdqmg, X It is growing dark on Mars when our huge space ship glides to land there. The lights of the runway are gleaming brightly, and, across from the hangar, neon signs, blinking on and off, proclaim Ye Olde Hot Dogge Stande is open for business. Seeing this, I recall all the details of Earth's exploration of Mars. The Martians, huge, weird-looking, two-headed creatures resisted fiercely the Earthians' invasion of their homeland. It appeared as though the plant could be conquered only by destroying it, until Bill Krenek, walking quietly into UNO headquarters in Westchester, offered a solution. Music, said he, land hot dogsl hath charms to soothe the savage breast. Give me a juke box and plenty of hot dogs and l'll tame the Martiansf' They did-and he did. Now Bill is being hailed as a national hero and has just been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Too, he has become fabulously rich. Two-headed men can eat a lot ot hot dogs. My thoughts then turn to my other schoolmates and I wonder what they are doing in 1956. To wonder is to act in this Age of Science. Turning to my two-way tele- vision time machine I press the earth lever and as I recall each face, a picture forms on the screen before me. I recognize Carnegie Hall even before I see Gene Perry rising from the huge piano and taking a bow hour after hour before the wildly applauding crowd of music lovers. Earle Bartee next appears standing before a huge white house with the sign, Home for Brokenhearted Lovers , above its door. I have heard of Earle's work along this line and of the marvels she has done in curing broken hearts, but this is my first glimpse of it. As I stare at it a taxi drives up and a passerger steps out looking so sad and Woebegone that there can be little doubt that she has come to take the cure. Looking closely, I recognize Norma Glenn, a habitual patient of the home. Five romances have been shattered for her already, I know, so this must be the sixth. The next face to appear is Betty Krenek's. She is teaching mathematics in Sunkehollow, and it the discouraged look on her face means anything, the Skunkehollowites aren't mathematically inclined.
