Left: Senior girls enjoying their hills. Bottom: Our smilin' coaches; Mrs. Liesemeyer and Mrs. Rogge. News Press Guest Editorial: Sept. 14: City Spirit! It is with joy and grati- tude that I wish to report to our community what seemed to me to be a most significant moment. It oc- curred near the conclusion of the Pioneer- Gretna volleyball game on September 14. Present for the game were several girls from N.C. Lourdes volleyball team, still wearing their uniforms following a victory in their first match of the season. They had obviously hurried across town to see our public school girls try to win their third contest in three starts. The 'moment' was when the Pio- neer cheerleaders led the following cheer: All for Neb. City, Stand up and cheer! And, foremost amoung all of us who stood and cheered were these girls from Lourdes, still dressed in blue and white. Surely in this demonstration of oneness there must be a welcomed lesson for all of us in community cohesiveness. Thanks Lourdes girls! Hopefully the favor will be returned. Rev. Gary Nienkamp. 55 THE 58 Our young boys amazed many this year as they closed the season 9-11. The varsity will lose only one letterman, so the next years squad will be even tougher. 59 Varsity members were front row, left-right: Traci Screiner, Carol Griepenstroh, Lauri White, Colleen Sullivan, Kris Heng, Back row: Janet Hauder, Therese Henne, Kelly Schreiner, Cindy Straub, Joanie Moyer, Kris Schreiner, Allysyn Molzahn. The varsity closed this years' season with a record of 9-11 and was ranked 10th in the state early in the season. The girls played a tough schedule and many close games. They will have a very promising season next year as the J-V players move up, who had a 10-2 record. 61 62 63 Above: Rick Bussard was named to First Team All Conference. Kevin Rettig was named to Second Team All Conference. Not pictured Jim Harshman who received Honorable Mention. To the right: Janet Hauder - First Team All Confer- ence, Kris Schreiner - Second Team All Confer- ence, Cindy Straub - Honorable Mention. 64 ALL CONFERENCE SPRING I'll lend you for a little time a child of Mine ' He said, For you to love while she lives, and mourn for when she's dead. It may be six or seven years or twenty-two or three. But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me? She'll bring her charms to gladden you, and should her stay be brief, You'll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief. I cannot promise she will stay, since all on earth return. But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. I've looked this wide world over in My search for teachers true. And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you. Now will you give her all your love, nor think your labor vain, Nor hate me when I come to call to take her back again? I fancied that I heard them say, Dear Lord, Thy will be done.” For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run. We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll love her while we may. And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay. But should the angels call for her much sooner than we'd planned, We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand. Thanks, Robin for all the Love and Happiness you have given us. In loving memory of Robin Harding. 5-6-61 to 4-10-81 The girls track team won a 2nd. place trophy at the Conestoga girls' invitational.
