Text from Pages 1 - 104 of the 1974 volume:

In all of our lives, there exist moments that we cherish above all others. Some call these moments peak experiences, or moments when all we have accomplished thus far is dazzingly clear. As we, the Seniors of 1974, wind down to the end of twelve years of our educational life, we hope these pages mirror our goals, values, dreams and joys for the future. We face the dimness of a new life--a life which will eventually take us to new peaks. The 1973-74 Lourdette is a milestone on our way. May its promise see ful- fillment in the years to come. 1973 YEARBOOK STAFF CONTENTS Editor Rick Kreifels Business Manager Jeff Hickman Sports Editor Doug Kreifels Advertising Karen Derks Mary Hiskett Debbie Wichman Photographers Jerry Hauder Rick Kreifels Doug Kreifels Copy Editors Dianne Sarraillon Cathy Pfeiffer Donna Wurtele Layout Doug Kreifels Sharon Schmitz Leonard Frede Faculty 3 Seniors 8 Underclassmen 14 Class Days 22 Activities 27 Sports 49 Musical 70 Ads 76 NEBRASKA CITY LOURDES 2 BISHOP GLENNON P. On Thursday night the traditional bonfire was lighted to spark the team on to their 51-12 win over Sterling. The tension finally eased when Doug and Barb were announced King and Queen for the 1973-1974 reign. The Royal Court included: Donna Wurtele and Mike Wilmes; Diane Sarraillon and Rick Kreifels; Sharon Schmitz and Dan Krog; Karen Derks and Jeff Hickman, 28 29 The dress of the 50's set the mood for Freshman initia- tion. For the onlookers, the dance was a lot of laughs. Each Freshman displayed his own unique dancing talent. 31 32 Mass is a very important part of our life here at Lourdes. Com- munity is expressed by gathering together and showing our need for each other. From these Masses we have all learned and benefitted a great deal. 33 34 35 36 The band received an excellent rating at the Marching Band Festival at Pershing Auditorium. They also pre- sented a winter and spring concert. At the spring con- cert the new swing choir under the direction of Sister Robertina, gave a song and dance routine. 37 Pep Club Officers; Diane Sarraillon, President; Donna Wurtele, Vice President; Julie Harris, Secretary; Donna Sar- raillon, Treasurer. It was No. 1 all the way for the Knights in football this year. From the opener at Weeping Water to the climactic finish against Paw- nee City, the Knights were rated 1 in the big metro sports pages. The quick-hitting offense and strong defense contributed to a well-balanced team. 51 Under the leadership of Coach Don Fleming, the Knights rolled over seven straight opponents enroute to their State title. However, in the eighth game of the season the damper was put to the Knights for the second year in a row; again by arch-rivals Falls City Sacred Heart, as they lost the heartbreak- er 16-12. 52 However, they finished the season with a rousing 59-16 win over Pawnee City, who had previously beaten Sa- cred Heart, and earned the Southeast Border Conference Title. 53 54 55 56 However, many of their losses came within a five to eight point span, while at the same time they had sev- eral two and three point losses. With a few good breaks, the Knights quite possibly could have turned their 1-14 record into a winning season. 57 Looking to prove themselves in District play, the Knights fell short once again in the opener against District runnerup Murdock. However, with good play shown by the reserve team, the Knights can look for- ward to many winning seasons in the future. 58 LOURDES BASKETBALL SCHEDULE 1973-1974 Dec. 7 Louisville Dec. 14 Falls City Dec. 20 Palmyra Jan. 12 Nemaha Valley Jan. 14-19 SEB Jan. 22 Weeping Water Jan. 25 Humboldt Jan. 26 Stella Feb. 1 Elmwood Feb. 2 Johnson-Brock Feb. 4-9 Galaxy Feb. 15 Pawnee City Feb. 22 Southern Feb. 23 Sterling Feb. 25 Start of District The 1974 Track Team: Steve Heng, Kurt Schreiter, Mike Bryant, Dennis Krog, Clint Krei- fels, Greg Kreifels, Mike Wilmes, Kent Knoll, Dan Krog, Doug Kreifels, Robin Gruber, Mark Pfeiffer, Paul Bataillon, Mark Eiserman, Tom Causgrove, Mark Beccard, Steve Stu- kenholtz, Leonard Volkmer, Randy Kreifels, Jerry Hauder. 60 Girls Track 1974 Freshmen: Sophomores: Jo Ann Kreifels Mary Gail Beccard Marie Bataillon Jane Kreifels Lee Ann Burger Marianne Cooper Jean Derks Janet Harney La Verna Clark Barbara Boemer Mary Lynn Kreifels Laurie Reese Mary Schreiter Diane Tanking Juniors: Mary Francois Marcy Navrkal Maria Gonzaley Karen Giittinger Susan Derks Seniors: Karen Derks Diane Sarraillon Sharon Schmitz Barbara Tanking 61 BACK ROW: D. There were mo- ments of frustrations, tears, and of happiness and joy. The team work and play of the girls was better than the record showed, but it was an experience in every girl's mind which will not be forgotten. The reserve volley- ball team under the direction of Miss Mary Geren also had a suc- cessful season. She added spirit and had many lively pep talks which inspired the whole gym. 64 65 66 The 1973-74 Reserve Team Coach Mary Geren Kelly Hartley Diane Tanking Barbara Boemer 67 The senior went to retreat not knowing exactly what to expect. After a couple of hours discussion, moods relaxed, and talking came more freely. Fr. Thomas Welk, retreat director, came early on the second day, By introducing us to new thoughts, our interest never lagged. Through the course of three days we came to a better understanding of ourselves and of one another, Retreat was an experience we will never forget. 68 ■ «Wtisg v I r m) V M wj 70 Kurt and Nancy-------Motel and Tzeitel Sharon and Narbert----Hodel and Perchik Don and Diane----Fyedka and Chava Donna and Mark---Golde and Tevye 71 Dianna, Yente, the matchmaker.
