Class History In Nineteen-hundred fifty, a band of fifteen Lion cubs, namely Dean Brunson, Joyce Campbell, Nicky Daugherty, Mary Franke, Robert Frederickson, Larry Gruber, Jerry Hutchison, Karmond Jardine, Marilyn Peck, Elaine Proctor, Judith Stohlmann, Lyle Stohlmann, Bill Wabel, Sidney Williams, and Julie Ziers, charged into the Kindergarten room of the Louisville Public School with one goal in mind, to become full-fledged Lions. We gained a new recruit. Bill Little in the middle of the year. Surprising as it may seem, our teacher Mrs. Pankonin, showed no sign of bodily harm or other injuries at the close of the year. Being a kind, patient teacher, Mrs. pankonin passed us on to the First grade to give Mrs. Funke some excitement. In the First grade we adopted cubs” Dian Reed, Christy Sorenson, and in the middle of the year, Tom Moffitt came from the state of Washington. Nicky Daugherty and Christy Sorenson left at the end of the year, also Joyce Campbell who took with her our pet turtle, Jasper. Mrs. Funke was so enamored with our group that she stayed with us through our Second grade. Charles Funkhouser, John Hannah and Donald Parrott joined our group along with Paddy, the Irishman, a little clay head with green grass for hair. We lost Bob Frederickson, Donald Parrott, and Dian Reed. Mrs. Hakel took us over for the Third grade. She treated usall as if we were her grandchildren. This is the year we learned to write and we wrote and wrote and wrote some more. We gained Genevieve Hampton, Joyce Husher, and Judy Kelly. The first two left us at the end of the year. We started off the Fourth grade with four new recruits, Donald Gray, Roy Phillips, Charles Primmer, and Janice Stratton. The late Mrs. Alma Hay was a very good teacher, wno taught us, among other things how to raise flowers and vegetables from seeds successfully. At the end of the year Charles Funkhouser, Donald Gray, John Hannah, Roy Phillips, and Janice Stratton left us. Mrs. Hakel rejoined our group in the fifth grade along with some new students who were Linda Gauer, Bob Sutton, Darlene Waters, and also Thomas Ady who left us the same year. 48 The indergarten Class in 1950 FRONT ROW: Marilyn Peck, Joyce Campbell. Pinkie Proctor, Judy Stohlmann, Jerry Hutchison. Julie Ziers, Bobby Frederickson. BACK ROW: Lyle Stohlmann. Mary Franke, Larry Gruber, Nickie Daugherty. Karmond Jardine, Bille Wabel. Mrs. Suzanne Pankonin, teacher The honor of guiding us through our Seventh grade fell to Mr. Graham. We recall we bought an aquarium and equipped it through the year. We protested when we were cheated out of recess and were driven to P.E. class! Nine of us plus Mr. and Mrs. Graham and their three children traveled in ONE car to the Omaha Boat Show, where we spent an exciting evening looking for two lost classmates. Remember L.S. and C.L.? This year we also took a field trip to Omaha. We gained Kathryn Rumph, but Larry Gruber left us at the end of the year. Mrs. Allen Koop was our “teacher in the Eighth grade. Erma Kelley and Fay Paulee joined us during this year. We all enjoyed Friday afternoon art classes. We published a school paper entitled The Lions Cub. Our class took pride in carrying the leading roles in the grade school operetta entitled, Cowboy on the Moon. We went on a field trip to Lincoln. Before graduation Erma Kelly, and Fay Paulee moved away. We graduated with fourteen, being one less in number than when we started as Kindergartners. In the fall of '59 we were initiated as full-fledged Lions being twenty-five in number when we enrolled for our Freshman year. The new additions were: Barbara Arends, Donna Bentley, Sandra Blunt, Joyce Campbell, Rosalee Conley, Gail Duerr, Judy Leroy, John Ossenkop, Wayne Reed, Alice Snodgrass, and Susan Stohlmann. Boys! Remember, when you are looking for a good wife, think back to those tender Freshman years when you were served that delicious chilli by the Alias, Smoky Home Economists! There was a short trip to the Cement Plant. The main topic was Cement Dust. We were very fortunate to go on so many, (termed by Mr. Bender) field trips, but termed by classmates: Clean Up the F-'ootball Field. We lost Clarence Love during the year, and Judy Leroy at the end of the year. We had a class dance that proved to be a lot of fun. We began to enjoy our high school session in our Sophomore year. We gained Frances Scott from Missouri, Wayne Spooner from Maine, and Peggy Wheeler from Iowa. Our number now reached a grand total of twenty-seven. Mr. Lee took us on our first real field trip in high school. We went to Lincoln. Remember all the small delays in Lincoln and the souvenirs we bought and received. Dean Brunson left us during the year. We really felt like Juniors when we received our class rings. We gave a mysterious play, Stranger in the Night, from which the proceeds proved to be very profitable. We went on a guided tour of Western Electric. The big event was the Junior-Senior Prom. Evening in Paris. Mr. Knox and Mr. Bender gave us a lot of help. We were abandoned by Marilyn Peck during the second semester. Alice Snodgrass and Peggy Wheeler both got married during the summer so they didn't return to school for our Senior year. Wayne Spooner moved to Florida. 49 The Senior year was filled with many activities. We were sorry to lose Wayne Reed after the first week of school. Sandra Blunt got married in December and moved away in March. Senior Portraits were taken by Genelli Studios of Sioux City, Iowa. We had a successful play entitled, Kay Beats the Band with Miss Carol Skillen our director. We were very surprised when we finally moved into the new addition on April second. The annual kept some of us busy most of the year, with Mrs. Selma 0. Mulnix our faculty advisor. April 26 was a red letter day for us, Senior Sneak Day, which we spent in Kansas City with Mr. Rodney Bender and Mr. Herbert Brown our guides. Then on Saturday May 4 was the other really big event of the year; the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom with a Hawaiian theme. Then came Friday May 10, the last day of high school for us. Sunday evening May 12 was our Baccalaureate service with the Rev. Rodney E. Wilmoth delivering the sermon. May 15 was Honors Night. Then came May 17, that great event we had worked for, for thirteen long years, Our Commencement, with Mr Donald Clifton our speaker. We, the Senior Class of Nineteen-hundred Sixty-three, of the Louisville High School, Louisville, Nebraska, do make, publish, and declare this, our last will and testament. I, Barbara Arends, will my ability to drag race to Ralph Puls, and my office of Register of Deeds to Evelyn Isaac. In testimony whereof we have set our hands to this our Last Will and Testament at Louisville, Nebraska, this Seventeenth day of May, in the year of our Lord, Nineteen-hundred Sixty-three. 50 Class of 1963 Class Prophecy Vacation time again. Now to decide what to do. I know, I think I'll go back to Louisville and see how many of the Class of '63 1 can find. Boy, am I ever excited, especially after twenty years. Oooh, flying is rather nerve-racking for the first time. My, my, there is Louisville now, it's got its own airport. Taxi! Taxi! Take me to a. . .why if it isn't Bill Little! Of course, Little's Taxi Service. Say, how is everything? Where is the best place to stay? Hotel? huh? Very well then, hotel it is. My, but this place has changed. It is so modern. Oh, hello, I would like a. . .Kathryn Rumph, well what are you doing these days.Oh! you own it huh. Very nice place you have here. Oh, yes a room, please. Say, how is the food. Better? Good. You have entertainment here too. Oh, this is wonderful. Say, Kathy, isn't that Karmond Jardine that just come in? You don't say, a band of his own. That is wonderful. That lovely girl with him, she looks familiar. What? His singer, Barbara Arends! I knew she looked familiar. I hear that Gail Duerr has his own law firm here in town. Oh Kathy, you're joking. Actually sings his way out of a mess. Ha! Ha! Oh Mary Franke is his private secretary. Always thought she would make a good secretary. ’Vhat's that you are saying? Donna Bentley is a Receptionist. WHERE? At the Missile Base! Oh Boy! You say Linda Gauer is working as a Secretary for the Governor. Bet that is interesting. Sounds like a real job. Always thought she'd have a REAL job. I'll see you later Kathy. Think I'll go down to the drug store awhile. My, this place is really something. Oh, it can't be! Julie Ziers! are you still working here. Really? You own it! Good deal. You have really fixed it up nice. A real modern place here now. Say, Julie, let me in on how everyone is doing these days. Tom Moffitt is a Math Professor at Doane College. How does he like it? He always was fair in Math when he wanted to be. You say Jerry Hutchison is an Admiral in the Navy. Boy, that guy's getting somewhere. How is Rose Conley, I mean Powles, doing. Oh, eight kids. Well that is something. So they've had to add some new rooms to their trailer. Now isn't that sweet. Julie, are you kidding? Now that was really good. 1 always knew that Judith Stohlmann would be a nurse, but I never had the slightest idea that she would talk her father into supplying the material for a hospital here. Stohlmann Community Hospital, that has a real ring to it. Judy the head nurse, of course and Carolyn Piner a therapeutical nurse. Boy--what a real deal! What has Susan Stohlmann been up to lately? Oh, she is! Home Ec. teacher at the high school. 1 knew she liked Home Economics but didn't know she would be a teacher. But she is well fitted for it. Isn't that Lyle Stohlmann? Really? He and John Ossenkop are both running for sheriff. Oh no, both have been running against each other for the last twenty years. Who usually wins. Oh, they are each elected every other election. Well that sounds fair. Rather unusual though. I'll be seeing you later Julie. Better get back to my room at the hotel. Well, if it isn't Bobby Sutton. What have you been up to? You own all the garages here. Bet you have monopoly on that line of trade don't you? Ha ha. Well, I'll see you later. This has been quite a day for me. But I feel like I have missed someone. Oh, maybe not. Think I'll watch TV. Ben Casey, good. Say that nurse, she sure looks like someone; Joyce Campbell, how about that. Wow! This is news. This is too, too much. She kissed him on the cheek, oooh! Now for a good night's rest. Time to go and catch my plane. Bye Kathy. This is a real nice hotel. Yes, I have to get back to my family! I will see you sometime. If you are ever around my way drop in and see me. Bye Frances 51 Baccala u reate VALEDICTORIAN Sunday, May 12, 1963, 8:00 F.M.
