Our first few days were nconfusen but not amusenw with revolving schedules. complicated lunch periods, and the gigantic size of the building. However, we survived the ordeal. thanks to those wonderful upper unit girls who gave us many helpful hints. Or, did they? In January. the Class of '45lf'Q began their long struggle for glory land an edu- cation! at L. C. H. S. Both classes soon discovered that this high school life was quite supe1'. even though they were restricted by many war-time measures. ln the teen age fashion world. Girls High moved from one extreme to another-W especially in A-15 when there were nearly' as many' silver barrettes attending school as there were girls, and when. if you dfidn't have at least two or three bracelets dangling noisily' from your wrist. you were considered a goonbait. All of us wore daredevil glasses with different colored plastic rims. whether we needed them or not. Of course, the tops in fashions for Seniors were those ever lovin' black and gold rings. True. during our stay at L. G. H. there werenit many extra curricular activities, but we must remember that we carried on our high school careers while our country was at war. and that all our actions were governed by that one fact. Forly'-si,v Many girls held part time jobs, worked in hospitals, in lied Cross activities, in the C. A. P.. and in many other fine jobs where their services were needed. Remember the paper drive conducted by the school? It just didnit seem right to go to school on Monday. Wednesday, or Friday without an armful of the scrap paper that was so vital to our government. Hundreds of War Stamps and Bonds were sold by our English Vlll Classes, who took over that job. The entire school was proud of the Minute Man Flag that con- tinually flew over the building, signifying that we were always 9022i or more in the sale of Bonds and Stamps. Class organization finally began. Meetings, elections, and the Senior assembly program were discussed freely. Wherever English Vlllis could be found, there also could be heard a mixture of 'isweetw voices, gleefully singing Here's to our dear old g-i-r-1-S! We have chosen Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Dunaway as advisers of the Class of '45 and '41-Slff. respectively. We were indeed fortunate in securing the aid of these fine .teachers and wish to take this opportunity to thank both for their wonderful cooper- ation and help. Class officers. whose picture you will find elsewhere in the book, have remained the same. with the exception of Merlene Martin, Treasurer of the Class of 545, who was forced to take residence in Florida because of ill health. fBy a re-election, Betty Rieser was chosen as the new Treasurer.l This loss to the Vlllis, however, will be a gain for the Vll's. because Merlene plans to finish her high school career in summer school here, then graduate with the Class of WSW. Now as Seniors, we have passed most of the agonies of life at Halleck Hall. especially autobiographies. thousand-word themes, having report cards thrust upon us every six weeks. and getting our voices tested in Senior Chorus. We gladly leave all these to the English Vis and Vlis, along with our self-assurance, because we feel that they will need that, tool Yes, truly. we, the Classes of '45 and ,45lQ, have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at L.
