Department History fContinued from Page 33 At the beginning of the spring semester in 1947, E. J. Russell who was with the Soil Conservation Service in Ruston was added to the staff to teach Forest Protection and Forest Finance. Authorization was given during the summer of 1950 to hire a teacher in Forest Utilization. Harold E. Gustin of Maine, who was with the Rubber Development Administration and who had just returned to the United States from work on the Amazon River in Brazil, was hired. Since he could not report for work until late in the fall, Roy Morgan, Forester for T. L. James and Co. of Ruston, was loaned to the Department by the James Com- pany to teach until Mr. Gustin could get to Ruston. Mr. Gustin stayed with the Department until the end of the fall semester 1950-1951. The tropical bug was too much in his system and he went off to Sumatra to get back into work with rubber. He is now in Brazil. Odie L. Fitzgerald, a member of Tech's first forestry class, was added to the staff on 1 February 1951 to continue the forest utilization program. At the beginning of the fall semester 1952, John Kuprionis, formerly Chief Silviculturist for Lithuania who had come to the United States at the end of World War ll, was added to the staff to teach silvi- culture. At the beginning of the fall semester 1956, Edward R. Andrulot who was with the Crossett Company was added to teach Forest Management and Forest Mensuration.
