During this brief period, LSU-S has grown from o first-year enrollment of 807 to a fifth-year enrollment of 1 746. Of more importance, however, the campus has begun the development of a reputation for an excellent academic program. Also, it has attracted an excellent student group which compares favorably with that found on any college campus in Louisiana. With a recommendation for four-year status from the Louisiana Coordinat ing Council for Higher Education, the campus now faces transition to a degreegranting institution. Many young people and employed adults will find new opportunities here to advance their education and their professional knowledge and skills. The faculty and staff are committed to developing an institution that will be a credit to the citizens of Shreveport and Bossier City. I wish to express my appreciation to all those faculty and students who have contributed so much to the development of LSU in Shreveport. Sincerely, Donald E. Shipp Dean 31 33 Dr. Laurence Hardy (left) and Dr. Rex Matlock (below) received grants for academic research this year, as did Dr. Thomas Moss who is not pictured. 33 Student Affairs K nn«fh Purdy Oorolhy Ov rl ot« Robtrt McN Counselors Isooc Bonifoy Dr. Kenneth Purdy Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Dr. Robert McNeese Supervisor of Student Financial Aid Dorothy Scripture Registrar’s Office Fobio Thoma Sylvia Boora Evefyn Gunderton 35 Library Ore Boll Malcolm Porker Wondo Berry Wondo Chorllon Nell Cunningham Sally Friedman Ava Harris Velma lightfoot 36 William McCleory Mattie Motley Dorcat McCormick Katherine Stone Patricio McMillin Pauline Walton 37 Benetto Bollew Brendo Inge Louise Show Billie Tote Sue Cello Wondo Normon Sheilo Sprouse Departmental Assistants 39 Business Office and Bookstore A. Drawing layouts, typing, taking pictures, and writing copy were just a few of the many jobs undertaken by the BAGATELLE staff. There were hectic moments and moments of relief, but through the efforts of staff members, the yearbook was successfully completed. Members of the staff were Diane Barksdale, Editor (right), Deborah Betts, Assistant Editor (below), and Eric Brewster, Lorry Hilton, Jim Bush, and Dave Daniel, Photographers (bottom right). Not pictured are Robert Horner and Mike Acker. 128 Cynlhia Stephen , Organizations Editor and Judy Ball, Art Editor (top left), Ann Fleming and Cheryl Holmes (top right), Karen Johnson (bottom left), Peyton Kelley, Sports Editor. Mrs. Loretta Gilliam was faculty adviser. 129 NARCISSUS NARCISSUS is the Literory magazine which is published at LSU-S. It is composed and sold each spring to raise money for the next issue. The purpose of this magazine is to enable those students with the ability to write creatively to express themselves. Requirements for membership includes approval of editor by publications committee and a general interest in creative writing. Members of the staff are Margie Parvino and Stephen Williamson (top right). Larry Cunninghom, Tommy Atkins, Editor; Carolyn Copple (center). Dr. Mary McBride, faculty advisor (below). 130 Editor’s Note In our 1972 BAGATELLE we hove tried to give a representative cross-section of the many phases of life at LSU-S. We have depicted many varied experiences shared by our students as they go through their school routines; the extracurricular activities and organizations which make for a more varied schedule have also been included. We hove attempted to capture the individuals os they were during the school year of 1971-72. John Burroughs aptly gives a major reason for publishing a yearbook: Time does not become sacred to us . . . until it has passed over us and taken with it a part of ourselves. Through the content of o yearbook we can enable persons to reminisce about a particular year and, possibly, recall that port of themselves that the year took. Many thanks go to the persons in charge of the various places in Shreveport where we were allowed to take pictures. We are proud to have such fine places in the area and would like to do them justice through the use of them in pictures. Our staff this year certainly deserves commendation for all their fine work. Each member who completed his job receives a big thank you from me; this is certainly inadequate for without these individuals (pages 128-129) and their fine work, this book could not have been published. These staffers made the editor's job an easier one this yeor. There hove been tedious and trying times this year, but all in all it has been worthwhile. We only hope that we have compiled a book which LSU-S students con be proud of, a book which is representative of our school, and a book which shows the need and merit of LSU-S to become a fourr yeor institution.
