And so the school year begins, bringing with it the opportunity to learn through the classroom and individual study. 4 6 10 Im portent lessons in leadership can he prac-ficed on campus and off, now and in years to come ... SO A, student publications, political involvement, and organizational direction are all a part. axombhun 13 Student Life 18 ... an individual who seeks to improve his own knowledge through classroom lectures. This desire for an increase in knowledge is shown by the student's mere presence at the university. This desire for an increase in knowledge unites all students in one general cause: the seeking of learning. 20 ... a person seeking knowledge through the wisdom of individual counseling. A student realizes that when he is not capable of understanding classroom lectures, he may seek to have his understanding increased by the explanations of others. He realizes that in the scheduling of courses it is very difficult to make every decision, so when in doubt he seeks the advice and counseling of those qualified. . .. an individual who is not content to just listen to lectures of others, but rath: er, in order to increase his learning, studies on his own, seeking to find out for himself the answers to the many questions he has. This search on his own may be entirely alone or may be in the company of fellow students. 24 . .. one who seeks to serve his school through the variety of activities offered. His service may come through participating on the newspaper staff or serving as a class officer or merely expressing his views at such meetings as Free Speech Alley. . . . someone who works at school. He may work as a lab assistant or as a photographer. He may also be found working in the library or at registration or in other capacities where he is needed. Through his work he serves his school while pursuing his individual interests.  n . . . not someone who spends all his time concentrating on school work. He has his moments of relaxing and just plain goofing off. A student can find many ways to relax, ranging from participating in a basketball game to thumbing through a magazine. 30 31 Administration and Faculty Minos H. Believe me, it was not easy. It took nearly 5871 2 soft drinks, seven months, hours of hectic work, an endless amount of patience on our sponsor's part, and planning, cooperation, and enthusiasm in abundance from everybody. The only way to find this last yearbook year is to look between the covers. In the nebulous beginning, the staff was a shy, reserved group. However, as the year progressed, we gained impetus and grew in joviality and sarcasm. Working with the class section were Susan Holtzclaw and Claudia Sparks. They ably misnumbered numerous pages, produced a fine section, and discovered the world of yearbooking. Georgia Scheen, our beauty editor, is a beauty in her own right and is certainly fun to have at yearbook meetings. Not only did she coordinate the beauty election and section, but she also helped us with all our typing. In the activities section, Lynn Sullivan and Kaye Pease adeptly organized the pictures and copy for their section, contending with fluctuating leadership and member-, ship within the clubs. One of the most valuable members of the staff is Johnnie West. He turned in the new student life section, but he also helped with the layouts, copy, and was always ready with sound advice for all the sections. The assistant editor, Linda Spence, worked with the faculty section and constructed one of the best parts of the book in regard to our mosaic design. Any yearbook really amounts to pictures. Barney Barnwell and Terry Hansen carried the responsibility for that most important aspect. Thanks, Barney, for the seemingly limitless last minute shots. Also on the photographic end is Reggie Ward, Jr. Always there during those rush deadlines, he also loaned us his professional talent for the beauty and administrative sections. Mrs. Nancy Sexton is the best sponsor around. With extraordinary cool, she managed the crises which occurred simultaneously, mysteriously with every approaching deadline. Her courage, nerves of steel, and perpetual good nature are to be admired. On behalf of the staff, I want to thank Fred Elsing, Sr. and Chuck Fowler of Taylor Publishing Company for the professional assistance and guidance. Now that the task has been completed, I want to tell the staff and Mrs. Sexton how much I enjoyed working with them. From their attempts to make order out of my chaotic editorship has come an unforgettable experience. We've tried to capture the days at LSU-S as you lived them. We hope you enjoy your yearbook as much as we enjoyed putting it together. i L nn 128
