The yearbook is finally finished. lt was a big responsi- bility, one that weighed heavily on me at times. lt seems like no matter how many people l had working for me, l ended up doing most of the work myself. This is not to imply that l didn't have a good staff. Many people gave unselfishly of their time and talents, and to those people lespecially Chris Erickson -- he knows whyi l am very grateful. There were times, though, when l wondered why l had gotten involved. There was the frustration of late sec- tions, lost negatives, incorrect layouts that kept pushing our deadlines back by weeks at a time. Setbacks and' obstacles stopped progress with depressing regularity, and this book is in your hands about three months later than l had originally planned. On the positive side, l think that what we have put together is the best Murmur that LSUMC has ever had. We used more color than ever before, about twice as 9' much. The sections representing the five different schools are better organized and more uniformly designed than in the past. l think we have published a Murmur that works well as a whole, rather than five smaller units that happen to share the same cover. ln case you.haven't realized it yet, these remarks con- sist of the same old cliches that every Murmur editor always says. l'm just repeating history, for two reasons: 1 3 Tradition. l'm a conformist at heart. 22 lt's the damn truth. lt is a tough job, and an editor deserves a little self-indulgence when it's over and done. The only really important thing l can say is that l hope you enjoy this book. lf it entertains you and stirs your memory a little, then l'll be satisfied. Finally, l would like to wish the best of luck to Chris Erickson and Paul Gulotta, co-editors of the 1981 Mur- mur. May God help them bothg no one else will. im 'feet 'iii I -l Murmur Staff f 283
